The head of the Dominica Police Force, Daniel Carbon, wants young officers to stay within their financial means less they succumb to the lure of drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

Police Chief Daniel Carbon made the warning during the 31st graduation and passing out parade of 36 Police Officers on Wednesday.

Carbon told the new officers that they must give the public the best service since they deserve nothing less.

“You must be true to the oath that you have sworn to at all times … always remember that you are paid by the state with tax payers money to do a service … the public deserve nothing less from you,” he stated. “You must be satisfied with the salary that you receive, budget your salary wisely and don’t spend what you do not have…never allow your selves to be vulnerable financially, by so doing you should resist bribes and temptations when and if they present themselves.”

He also warned the officers that their six months initial recruit training is not enough to be a successful police officer. “You must learn and learn at every opportunity you get while you work in various sections of the force,” he said.

The Police Chief also cautioned against bad behavior. “As chief, let me remind you that I will never tolerate one iota of bad unprofessional conduct,” he noted. “As you embark on your career as police officers I grasp this opportunity to advise you, warn and instruct you on the manner in which you must conduct yourselves and manage your career.”

The top cop advised about putting God first and foremost. “You must pay reverence to God on a daily basis; because with God everything is possible, he remarked. “Maintain and keep your body at all times, live a very healthy lifestyle … if you don’t, it will have implications for your career and a negative effect on the organization.”

    Mr Carbon.

Good afternoon my people. Well Mr Carbon you want your Officer to live within their means which they should be doing. The Officers file their Tax returns every year so that should be available to your Internal Affairs Bureau and you also have a copy of their pay checks therefore you should know if they are living with their means. Sir I think you need to put a Chief in charge of Internal Affairs Bureau and give him the authority to conduct such internal Investigations and you wouldn’t have to make such statements. This tells me that our Police Force isn’t modernize that’s why you have Mae such statement.

Sorry the last sentence should read.

I totally argee with the top cop but, what is the salary of an officer? While they are all servants of the state, they got familiy and a whole bunch of affairs to care of. Everything is expensive! Pay them good!

I guess he has no friends on the team. I hope that those he has high up are living within their salaries and not trying to live the lives of their friends wanting to have all what they see their friends and other people have. hmmmm.

What happened to the young lady that was dismissed the last week on training? and why after all that hard work was she just dismissed. She was one of the top students, why was she treated so unfairly..Common we are supposed to be a nation that looks out for one another, she has a child too feed for pete’s sake. couldn’t there have been some other form of punishment instead of having her reach the finish line and not allow her to cross it?

Very good advice, considering the Colombians and V’zuelan drug traffickers are already entrenched within our society using Dominica as a gateway in order to get their hard drugs to France, UK, US, Canada. They have taken many casualties locally in the process and police are vulnerable and targetted with the leur of money. Keep your heads up and be safe to be there for your families.

The powers that be can do even more to help in keeping the police from this danger by simply decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana to make it a non-variable in this whole drug equasion. Remember what happened to the US when alcohol was prohibited (Alcapone comes to mind). Be safe!

Well said comrade! Keep your eyes peeled on bad and reckless behavior or else they will follow the path of evil that is destroying the good name of the CDPF. Get rid of those who display their political influences / connections as a badge of honor for the police force is a disciplined organization with a mandate to serve and protect each and everyone. But I also want to remind you that “Change Must Come” and that will also depend on you b honest and fair in granting permits for rallies, demonstrations etc to avoid being seen as a “certain party supporter”. 8)

    Assertive, NOT Agressive!

Exactly! It also displays how little faith he has in his force. I’m sure he has his reasons, too.
