Training underway for Port Facility security officers

The Government of Dominica in keeping with its obligations under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention and its security related duties under Chapter XI of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) is reviewing its compliance measures for all the port facilities and terminals on the island.

As a result, the Dominica Maritime Administration in association with Quality Management International Inc is pleased to confirm that a training course will be held for Port Facility Security Officers. The aim of the training is to educate and update individuals on the criteria of the ISPS Code and other measures. Some of the critical areas to be studied in the training are as follows:

•    Relationship between ISPS and International Safety Management Code (ISM)

•    Security vulnerabilities (including terrorism, piracy and stowaways)

•    Using management systems to assure security and customer satisfaction

•    Taking the process approach to ship and shore system development

•    Conducting the Security Assessment (SA)

•    Developing the On Scene Security Survey (OSSS)

•    Special measures to enhance security and understanding security levels.

The training will be held from January 19-21, 2009 and will be convened at the Roseau Fisheries Complex from 9:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
