Dominica is presently experiencing bad weather associated with a trough system interacting with a topical wave, the Dominica Met office has said said.

Coordinator of the Disaster Management Office, Don Corriete said bad weather, floods and landslides are expected and wants person traversing the country to exercise caution.

“We want people to exercise tremendous caution as they traverse throughout the island, the country is experiencing a tropical wave right now, soils are saturated and there is lots of water in the atmosphere,” Corriette points out.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Works are presently on their way to survey a landslide in Dubique and flooding in Soufriere.

Meanwhile, the area between the two bridges in the Layou Valley have been declared a disaster zone after the Matthieu Dam collapsed last night.

The met office said the interaction between the trough system and the the tropical wave is expected to result in increased moisture levels being maintained across the island today. As a result, an increase in cloudiness with periods of showers and possible isolated thunderstorms can be expected during the next 24 hours.

Most of the significant convection associated with this trough is expected mainly across the southern Windward islands, according to the met office.

Dominica News Online will continue to monitor weather conditions and bring updates as they becomes available.
