Trinidad and Tobago – The Government has pledged $5 million to storm-ravaged Dominica to help in the rebuilding of that country, Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie announced yesterday.

In August, Tropical Storm Erika hit Dominica, killing dozens of people and causing floods and mudslides that are said to have set the island back 20 years.

Following the swearing-in of the Dr Keith Rowley led Cabinet last month, cricket legend Brian Charles Lara was sent to Dominica as a special envoy of the Trinidad and Tobago Government.

Cuffie announced the Government’s contribution to Dominica’s relief effort during the post-Cabinet news conference yesterday.

I hope you all realized that they have pledged building materials and no money. They recall their experience with the millions that they have given a few years ago from the petroleum fund and this was wasted.

DNO – Is it EC dollars or TT?

That’s the same question I asked. If its TT money its not really a lot of money less than US$1 mil. Still good TT cough up bit of oil money and the revenues they make from Caribbean people who buy their manufactured goods. Some of the other CARICOM states have donated more in help.

I understand T&T is also donating $800,000 in construction materials.

Where possible some of these countries should also provide Engineers etc, who could work with the Dominican equivalent, thereby ensuring the monies donated is being used for what it is intended.

Thank you to the T&T government. This is truly a generous donation to Dominica.
There are many D/cans who have been residing in T & T for years. I have relatives and friends there and have visited them a few times.
I also have T & T friends in Canada. We will have much to talk about as we did about TS Erika.
God bless the new T & T government and the people of T & T.

T&T will not give the government cash money, they decided to buy materials in Trinidad to construct bridges , roads and other areas need to repair. That s a very smart move the T&T government they don’t trust the government to put money in their hands.

You too sot, it will serve us better to get the materials than we have to use money to buy it which will be more expensive. It will be cheaper for TnT to give us the material which they already have instead of finding % mil. In your effort to diss the govt you come off as a big fool.

Can they trust themselves? Can the people trust them? Who can really be trusted? There are some people who do not live up to their promises.

They “pledged” 5 Mill to Dominica; when are they going to actually give it? My guess is they are waiting to see, then to fully decide

You must think. The money will not be sent all at once. Can you see them sending that amount of money immediately? It will be sent but sporadically.

Every disappointment is a blessing. My sympathy goes out to the people of Petite Savane, God is in control and has the answer to everything. Erika has just added another important site to the Tourist Industry. Hope the Government capitalize on that.
