Two additional public holidays have been declared here during the Christmas and New Year season.
December 27, 2011 and January 2, 2012 will be holidays, Cabinet Secretary Felix Gregoire announced Thursday.
In a statement he said: “The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica has signed a proclamation declaring Tuesday December 27, 2011 and Monday January 2, 2012 as public holidays because Christmas Day, December 25, falls on a Sunday, which is a holiday. Also New Year’s Day, January 1st, falls on a holiday.”
So what happen there is no Merchant Holiday???? Monday and Tuesday should be a holiday after New Year’s Day!!! Its not the first time Christmas and New year’s Day falling on Sunday and we’ve gotten both Monday and Tuesday after them as holidays!! So Tuesday 3rd should be celebrated as Merchant Holiday!!!
This is how the government gets to fool the people,by playing and preying on their brain. Why these wasted holidays in an island where people hardly work and produce?Sorry for our passive, naiive and lazy people. The poorer they are the more this government keeps them in poverty.
Please Mr. President..lets legalize marujuana in Dominica!!!
Why are we making this about the president? This holiday was not given to us by him, it was supposed to be that way, because Sunday is already a holiday. I would question it if it was not declared.
Merry Christmas to all Dominicans, and thanks to DNO for keeping us informed throughout the year.
WHY SO MANY HOLIDAYS STUPZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
What he want more holiday for when he already not doing a dam thing. That’s why this country taking so dam long to move forward… people partying more than they working… and then when they need money they robbing Fadelles, Sukies, the restaurant in Canefield, etc.
This country needs a shaking up… maybe a good size (6.0) earthquake will wake us up!
Let us pray In the Name of Jesus, we rebuke all negative thoughts, words and intention. Our land is blessed and we come to your throne in praise and thanksgiving. Thank you Lord for so many things you have done for us in this land. Food, Water, Preserving our life and protecting us from death. We are praising you continually and we repent of our sins and we ask for your mercy upon those who utter useless and negative words with their mouth. Show us again your glory in this land. /all power and glory and honour we give to you and we will praise you continuously in this land.
This is not new except Skerrit wants to make it appear as if he is giving people two extra days off work.
The media should have ignored the “story”.
you are sooo right, this is the case all over the world, even here in the US public servants are off, when I worked the Government in D/Ca it was the same…this is nothing new…..
That’s what I’m talking about. Thank you Mr. President let our people enjoy themselves, their homes, families and relaxation; Then they hit the road spending mucho time away from home working hard for the new year.
Thanks again.
Countries like the U.S that don’t have many holidays are stressed, broke, and depressed. Let’s enjoy our country.
this year i suspect it to be a very interesting one . don’t know much but i see feuds , maybe riots and disasters . fear , fear , crisis and tears all over this dark country .
I rebuke this nonesense.
In Jesus name

you dont know much, yet you writing such nonsence.Your wishes will not happen,go take a nap,you are too negative
There is absolutely no need for the President to issue this proclamation. The law already declared that where two holidays fall on the same day, the following day not being itself a holiday, shall be observed as a holiday. So there is no need for the proclamation.
What u talking about?? Christmas and New Year always falling a week from each other WHICH HAPPENS TO BE AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE SAME DAY!!
More excuses for less productivity in this country!
What we Dominicans dont understand that we a just puns for this GOVT and so call President, because of how the holidays fall we celebrate it the following days why a proclamation another way these guys take people for granted but I dont blame them we the people play along with their games with both eyes open this is not a christmas gift people.
so carbinet secretary declearing holiday, and president picture that showing , wat is dat na
ADMIN: Maybe you didn’t take the time to read the story….the announcement was made the the cabinet secretary. He cannot declare a public holiday only the president can…..read people, read

this s the norm when a holiday falls on a sunday which is a day of rest then you celebrate the holiday on the next day so why the big hoopla and why should that make the news
Mr apresident can you please institute a Commission of Enquiry into the firebombing of GON Emmanuel on 25 December 2010?
WHY BE SO NEGATIVE MY PEOPLE…FREE UP..SPEND TIME WITH YOUR LOVE ONES…TAKE Time to reflect on the year and make plans to make 2012 BETTER….Be Positive…don’t think of what jam you can go to rather use the extra time to do something construstive in your life or of those you love…life is short..you’re alive and well today say thank God and make the most of it…GOD BLESS YOu ALL…GOD BLESS DOMINICA…xox
That is the norm everywhere in the world. Relax people and enjoy the time off with your families.
This is the norm whenever a holiday falls on a Sunday. What,s the hue and cry about
This is no news, from time immemorial any time a public holiday falls on sunday the holiday is observed on Monday. This was the case for May Day and Independence Day, so what’s the big deal?
As a matter of fact Monday and Tuesday after both Christmas and New years are holidays in St. Lucia.
just another thing for people to be negative…LIKE U ALL DIDNT KNOW IS SO IT WAS GOING TO BE! THATS ALWAYS THE CASE WHEN HOLIDAYS COME ON A SUNDAY..WOW BIG SUPRISE..!!!
DNO is it possible or legal to post a copy the President’s job description/function for the knowledge of tax payers?
