Dominica News Online has been reliably informed that Jennifer Wallace Lafond is no longer a nominee for President of Dominica.
DNO was further informed by reliable sources that Charles Savarin is next in line to be nominated for president by the government.
According to the sources, Savarin resigned from his job as minister of national security on Wednesday in order to pave the way for his nomination.
There is no word yet as to who will replace him as minister.
Concerning Lafond, the sources said she possesses a US passport and this may contravene 32 1 A of the Constitution which states “a person shall not be qualified to be elect or appointed as representative or senator if he is by virtue of his own act under acknowledgement of allegiance or adherence to a foreign power of state.”
It is also said that she is suffering from ill health.
Lafond was nominated by the government after speaker of the house, Alix Boyd-Knights, withdrew her nomination citing safety concerns.
