UPDATE: Marian Jno Lewis to receive military funeral

Jno Lewis

Corporal Marian Jno Lewis, of the Dominica Police Force who passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados last month, will receive an official military funeral in Salisbury on Saturday.

Official viewing of her body will take place at Police Headquarters from 12p.m-1:30p.m today.

Viewing for other members of the public will take place from 1:30pm – 2pm.

Flags are being flown at half staff on all police stations in Dominica.

Meanwhile, Police Chief Cyril Carrette said the death of Police Corporal Jno lewis has been having a “tremendous” impact on the Dominica police force.

Jno Lewis was a dedicated employee and one who worked diligently, according to Carrette.

“Wherever she worked everybody liked to work with her. The last place she worked was in the Immigration Department. She was well-loved in the police force,” he stated.

Jno Lewis joined the police force on 16th November 1990 and died from blood cancer on 25 November in Barbados, less than two weeks after she was admitted there.

“It was just a shock to all of us that this thing happened so quickly,” Carrette said.

OH BOYYY. Words right now can’t even describe my sadness. Whenever we met, there was always a smile and our patois words. You were loved by many. You are like family to me. I will miss seeing you at immigration Dept. You are gone from us in the flesh, but with us in spirit. Your memory will live on in our lives and the lives of your loved ones FOREVER. Girl, I wish it had more people with your personality in the workplace, on the street, in the home. Everywhere you tread you touched lives. Go in Peace my sweet. Rest gently in the arms of our creator.

Condolences to the family of Mrs. Jno Lewis. May her soul rest in peace… Though we’ve never had a real conversation just seeing her and the way she used to act in the immigration office with clients and in church I realised she was a sweet person.

I had the joy of meeting this lady when I worked in Dominica, my former colleague was her husband’s cousin and truly she was a gem. Alas. Monette and the others. I am thinking of you all every day. Sorry I won’t be there for the funeral. Just Keep your heads up high and remember, Marian is in a better place (In Heaven)and she’ll be waiting for you all to join her one day. Keep praying for strength. I know it may be hard to realize that God’s still there when a relative dies. There will be time when you’ll just fall apart, but just remember to keep Marian in you’lls heart. Let the tears fall. It’s O.K to cry. Try to understand it’s her turn to fly. I will miss Marian. She told me that we have to go back to Primark for a big shopping for her kids the next time she comes to England. Alas. ALas. Alas.  :( :(

Well i have never spoken to Mrs George mayb in the past at immigration but cant remember, however a few of my family members new her and I am only hearing nice words about her, and most of what is on DNO as well, alot can be known from the way people speak about you. So to her family i hope this gives comfort to your heart knowing that she was a loving, kind individual, dont question the works of the father just leave everything to him. I know it may be hurtfull and i am not in you all shoes but please be strong. I am a mother myself and i pray God allows me the time to take my kids through some part of their lives to play my part with this i want to plead the blood of Jesus over her kids and i pray that they will continue to make their mother proud while she look down on them. Its really touching but the bible speaks of seekness, pain and suffering so to her husband keep her memory and cherish the times spent. Death is a theft but its a debt we all have to pay. In the name of the father God give her family strength. MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE

I called her George as she normally dealt with me in the immigration department she was the nicest officer. I know her colleges like Charlie and Elizee, will miss her I too as a person I will miss her as well. I met George when she came back to work and she looked fine and as her usual self we greeted each other and I got a very big hug, not knowing this would be the last time I would get a hug from her. This is a lesson for all of us, be nice to people you never know when it will be your last day. To her family take courage, God is in charge and he knows what best, he will give her husband and children the strength to go on. Dont you cry she is resting and you will see her some day just remain faithful and true and let God have his way. May she rest in perfect peace. I indeed appreciated her and she will be missed.

Very often, it seems that life is only made up of things to worry about. Life has many disappointments for all of us…..death, illnesses, betrayals, tragedies and feeling of hopelessness and despair. Sometimes life seemed so very grim, and many times we tend to wallow in pools of self pity.

To her immediate family, especially her children, please hold on strong. May God continue to strengthen each and every one of you during this time of lost.

After speaking to Marian, complainingly and in tears, I watched her suffer. I told myself, that this cross was too heavy for her to carry. As she slowly fades away, I then wondered discontentedly, why God gave it to her to bear.

I began thinking of others with envy, whose crosses seemed lighter than hers. And I cried that, I could have changed her cross for one of a lighter design.

My dear friend had a life watered by tears and suffering, and only God knew how much she was able to bear. She did suffer, and she really fought hard to stay as she left our heart completely broken.

Marian time on earth gave her the opportunity to grow spiritually. She experienced personal growth because of all the suffering, worries and difficulties she encountered. There was good time too, but it was God’s way of fine-tuning her, so she became more compassionate, more caring, more loving and more aware of others pain. My friend never did it alone.

After all, why did she have to die? How could we ever dry our tears if we had never cried ourselves?

It is with much love that I dedicate this page to her although I am miles away, not being able to attend her Funeral service and burial. But everyone who knew her, knew she had been a very special person. These words are just a small way of showing her my appreciation for always taking the time to listen, being able to understand, and for always being there when needed.

George, God test you often with sufferings. He tests you not to punish you, but to help you meet tomorrow.

You had a great fight…..you suffered …..You died……. may your soul rest in peace.

    I love you

apparently some people have no idea what a military funeral is for. If you do not know something be quiet speaking only makes u sound stupid.A military funeral is not only for one that died in the line of duty its for anyone that died while in active service. she did not quiet the force she was still an active officer. dieing because she was ill does not make her less active.

I hate when people try to turn a sad moment into some form of personal agenda.

NOC.C…. according to the laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica (and not google)all police officers are entitled to a military funeral. If you need clarification call Police Headquarters @ (767)448-2222….

Now why is it bothering you what type of funeral she gets anyway? The police officers are not complaining.

Just please stop being petty and allow the CDPF, family, friends, and love ones to mourn in peace and give the young lady the good going home ceremony that she deserve.

i do not mean to be rude of impolite ,but i can not understand why should a niece ,well loved police officer should get a military funeral when she did not loose her life on duty..this is what a military funeral is for ;when someone dies on duty because by all means the cause of death should be mentioned during the funeral ;which does not have any thing to do with her being on duty….google it out instead of calling those who knows something better u u e d u c a t e d…

This comment is not meant to be negative and the officer appeared to have been well like by all and by all accounts a very nice person. However I am struggling to understand the magnitude of a military funeral for an officer who died of natural causes surly this honor should be reserved for officers who loose their lives in the line of duty.
Does this mean that every officer who dies gets a military funeral?.

@ Un edcated or educated or what ever your handle is, like I said, I have nothing against the officer or her kin, I was asking a simple question, Do all police officers who die naturally receive a full military funeral.
Now if you can answer the question factually, please tell, if you cannot, then I suggest you educate yourself, then you would be in a position to tell me to shut up.

A military funeral is granted to officers who die as ACTIVE members of the force, not ON DUTY. SMH

      SHE was a cop…This is PROTOCOL…She gets a STATE’S FUNERAL,(OR A MILITARY type FUNERAL)…

Whether or not she died in the line of duty, don’t matter..She died whilst serving her Country and the People as a Police Officer..So that my friend, deserves the Honor of…”Taps”..and a “Six-guns Salute”…She gets the whole works….deservedly so…SHE WAS A POLICE OFFICER!…That is STANDARD PROCEDURE….

We don’t have a Military, but we do have a Police Force….So it is fitting.

You should be a little more considerate and prudent in a time like this…Also some sensitivity won’t hurt also….

One Love….and…All the best to you.
