Venezuela gets commended for contributing to Dominica’s development

Dominica’s Ambassador to Venezuela, Dr. Philbert Aaron, has commended the efforts of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuelan for its continued support towards the development of Dominica.

Speaking at the launching of the fourth phase of the Miracle Eye Care Program ‘I Can See Clearly’ on Tuesday April 25th, Aaron said that the program “illustrates how deeply Dominica and Venezuela are linked,” and that the partnership between the two countries is “a deep bond of friendship and cooperation.”

The program is sponsored by the governments of Venezuela and Dominica.

“Let me remind us that Venezuela is a neighbor, Venezuela is a friend, and throughout the history of our independence, Venezuela has consistently responded to our calls for support and cooperation,” he said.

Dr. Aaron added that in times of natural disasters, Venezuela has always been there with a quick response and willingness to help.

“In times of natural disasters, Venezuela’s response is pointed, reliable and effective and I want to end by emphasizing that this support which is directed at the people of Dominica, from which the people of Dominica will benefit very widely across the country; from St. Joseph, Roseau, La Plaine, Castle Bruce to the people of Dominica, it really illustrates the essence of what Venezuela is as a country, as a society,” he said.

Minister for Health and Environment, Kenneth Darroux, echoed Dr. Aaron’s sentiment, expressing his deep appreciation for the help that Dominica is receiving from Venezuela notwithstanding its own internal issues.

“We think it is commendable that Venezuela has continued to meet their commitment to Dominica, and while this is a health function, it would be remiss of me if I don’t highlight a couple other projects that Venezuela would have committed to and delivered as member of parliament for the Petite Savanne constituency; I speak to the construction of over 100 Petro Casas in the Petite Savanne Constituency area post T.S. Ericka,” he said.

Darroux mentioned that 50 residents of the community of Dubique which was “annihilated by T.S. Ericka” have moved into their new homes donated by Venezuela.

“They would be the happy owners of their own homes, some of them for the very first time in their lives, and all of this was made possible thanks to the generosity and commitment of your (Venezuelan) government to Dominica,” Darroux said.

He mentioned the Petro Caribe Agreement that has benefitted Dominica and other Caribbean countries saying that Venezuela’s assistance “cannot be underscored.”

“It cannot be underscored enough that you continue to deliver in spite of your own domestic problems. I really want you to convey this message to our comrade Nicholas Maduro, who we think has continued steadfastly in the tradition of our fallen comrade Comandante Hugo Chavez,” Darroux remarked.

its a dam shame that the government of Dominica is supporting and taking anything from the government of Venezuela. but let us not forget what Chavez was to the PM. PM WAS THOUGHT TO THINK LIKE HIS DADDY. use poor people to stay in power.
Aaron its a dam shame you still keep this position. you need to make the PM give you another job. your mother raise you better than that.

Firstly, there is something wrong with your eyes and your sense of “fly”. And secondly, what does “flyness” or lack there of have to do with the topic at hand. Do you agree with his sentiments, or not. Period. Maybe, since you’re obviously watching him closely, you can hold a private convo with him, and become his “fly adviser”. Waiting for real flyness to come through. You people are so petty.

It would be quite commendable of the Dominican government to refuse Venezuela’s assistance under their economic crisis . These people need every penny they can get! What has Dominica done to help the Venezuelan people especially since they have such a “deep bond of friendship and cooperation. “

I can see very clearly Philbert but apparently you can not and must be super myopic. I can see that Venezuelea treats is own people like fodder and leave them starving and short of medicines or are you telling us what we seeing on T.V., and reading is all lies? I thank the people of Venczuela for their help but feel guilty as hell at the same time. You painting a one-sided picture Phiklbert. I tis like Gadaffi and Libya all over again. An ALBA propaganda. Democracy is a token of no curreny in Venezuela. Is that what you want for us?

Really! I am now very confident that Dominica is not a real country. After all what Venezuela has done for us, what are you rich people going to do to help the starving people in Venezuela?

Meanwhile Dominica silently abstains from a vote to have a meeting by the OAS on the situation in Venezuela.

Note that this isn’t some meeting to plan some kind of intervention, just a panel to discuss the issues facing the country and Dominica along with other countries, obviously members from ALBA abstain from voting, effectively casting a vote against. And not a word about that from the government.

Correcton: Dominica voted against. Again no word on this from the government.

I get it. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. In our time of need, they came through and provided us with assistance. Given the changing economic and political situation in Venezuela right now and not knowing what the foreseeable future holds for this country, isn’t it wise for Dominica to change its focus and work on being more self-sustainable? We have enough land available to feed ourselves and an abundance of fish to go with it. Why are we focusing on being beggars, instead of fueling our independence and self-sustainability?

If you are happy that you have received aid from a country that is run by a dictator who oppresses free speech, and where half the population has no food nor proper access to education, health and welfare, then you are a fool beyond words. You should be ashamed of yourself and you shame your country for this action.

Aaron, what ever your role is. A government is not static and evolves around its citizens who entrust in them the ability to govern well with the necessary themes and doctrines. And don’t steal and abuse. The resources of Venezuela has been abused, misused and corrupted. It was one of the most riches country in south America and now at the gutter where it belongs, simple because like Dominica and this inept Skerrit and corrupt labour government they have taken their people for a ride and running the country as their personal thing and owned by them exclusively aided by their cohorts. Chavez thought he would be there forever and now, like Madura and Skerrit, inexperienced people where just hand picked to be head of government. It has failed – it`s a disaster and abusive. It’s a shame to see that a country that gave help to Dominica; the people are now starving. They are now killed because the leader is not doing a good job and refuses to resign. How did Venezuela reach to that sad point? What did the govt do with the money that should be used to develop the country? Was there any fraud committed by the ruling party? As I can see; Dominica is improving in the reverse; its fate might not be far from Venezuela’s. There are many deaths, malnutrition is on the rise, shortage of medicine, shortage of food while many eat from the bins. This should be an alarm for Dominica.

Poor Venezuela and its peoples! We could at least show solidarity to the champions of democracy in that country and stand with them for equal rights, justice and human dignity to live in a country where bread and medicine does not depend on whether one supports the ruling political party!

You guys take people lived for a joke. I hope Dominicans are seeing the results of the same modus operandi Venezuela did with it’s people is fast approaching in the Dominican society. Dominicans your are being warned and all the signs are there. It’s like a hurricane heading to Dominica and you are ignoring the met office warnings. Dominica if not collapse is on the verge of collapse. Venezuelan at least seek refuge in neighboring countries on the same soil but you need boats and planes to leave. Imagine a place with no food. TAKE WARNING DOMINICANS.

    • Spike
      April 26, 2017

I do imagine a place with no food and Venezuela is one. All it takes to create it is for government to convey, by word and deed, that the farmer is not honored, nor the man who does not quit for the day until he knows that the food is moved to the market. From Exito supermarkets to toymakers to General Motors, Venezuela has seized businesses for the simple glee of passing out their products itself (in Year One; in Year Two there are no products).

Is this not slightly like commending Purgatory for one’s devotion? Happily, the two countries are not more “tightly linked” and Dominican zoo animals are still safe from being eaten by starving mobs. Maduro and Chavez have no useful lesson to teach Dominica. Diplomats say the darn’dest things.

Shout it from the roof tops! A grateful nation to a committed friendly nation. A friend when in need, a true friend indeed!
Compared to the negativity of blogs from covert agents of so-called nation friends to destabilize an infant nation striving to provide for its people. A white man in a racists society, claims he has the welfare of poor Dominicans at heart! Give me a break!! Mr. Blogger your charity and concern should first be practiced at in your country, quite sure there are enough poor and corruption to fill your blogs. Leave Dominica to Dominicans we do have the talents to solve our problems, though it may not be obvious to you.

It appears that the three blind bats AT THE HEADTABLE, and the leadership of the DLP would still be willing to suck blood from Venezuela’s dead and decaying body…This message is EMPTY, PATHETIC, LACKS EMPATHY AND CALLOUS. It touches at the core of what I have learnt to know as a rogue DLP regime…They only appear there putting on this farce, because the members of the opposition have been bombarding them about their ungratefulness.
You all refuse to state Chavez, Maduro and Skerrit of the DLP have in place the same leadership style. To give free money, toilet, house, fridge, galvanize, TO CATCH VOTES, but cares a DARN about providing the environment for employment…BLIND BATS, Nothing about helping Venezuela? You all enjoy seeing them eating rats and fighting at garbage dumps…SET OF WICKED AND EVIL RULERS!

Really guys! The people of Venezuela are suffering from starving, oppression, high unemployment, and government corruption, and they can afford to give Dominica assistance? This is reminiscent of dictatorship rule where they try to project a good image abroad, while their citizens suffer.
