Village council chairman condemns protest

Chairman of the Woodfordhill Village Council Scribner Basil is calling for the organizers of a protest this morning to justify their actions.

Villagers took to the streets in protest today, claiming that they were not effectively being represented by the village council chairman.

But, Bazil said the accusations are baseless.

“People have their grievances and they want some way to vent it out so they chose somebody and that’s all,” he said.

“I had no idea that they were going to protest against me. It’s only this morning I heard about it. It came as a surprise to me. I wish I could get the answers, but I have no idea as to what brought it up. Some people just have selfish motives…” he continued.

Bazil said he would not meet with any of the protestors. “The characters who are protesting give me no taste to meet with them. These people are making wild accusations, calling me names and slandering me so there is no need for me to talk to them,” the village council chairman asserted.

According to him, the people cannot decide they want him out. He said he will be the chairman and that is final.

sir you were put there to serve these characters… whether you like what they say or not… it is your duty to at least listen to them. i think it is a bit arrogant to totally ignore the voice of the people… despite their motives…

it will cost you nothing to sit and talk to the people who seemingly have a grievance against you… infact it would show u as the bigger man… come on mr bazil.. i expected a more diplomatic response from you

I look at the deffinition of Character in the dictionary, and it isnt a bad word at all. As a matter of fact, Mr. Bazil is quite right i refering to these persons as “Characters”, cuz thats what they are, according to the dictionary. 2. for some of u’ll knowledge, Mr. Bazil wasnt elected Chairman. 3. Politics is playing a major role in this incident, so it goes beyound face value.

However, i want to applaud Mr. Bazil for the leadership role he has taken in the villiage. Wfh is in search of leaders and Mr. Bazil is one of the few positive influences which still exist in our village.

I applaud ur effort sir. Keep working….

“Be humble for you are made of earth, be noble for you are made of stars,” Serbian proverb.

Mr Bazil, if you are being paid by tax payers then those characters are your employers.

OH NO…sir read over your comments, this is why you people need to think before you speak!!!! probably this is one of the reasons the villagers dont want you as chairman…
whether or not they are protesting, you should be a heartfelt person and have a sense of respect then even if they would call you names, you shouldnt refer to them as characters, thats no justification.
another note, they have a right to protest against what is going on in the community/village council.. they are the ones that voted you in and they can vote you out. you should realize that without their votes you wouldnt become chairman. they placed you in the position NOT yourself….
another point, if you would have realised a chairman of a village council should be a charismatic leader, respectful as well as respected leader, and a leader working in all legality. now why on earth that when there’s a protest that you should get all upset and not wanting to even speak to the protestors. clearly, protesting shows that they are interesting in what they are protesting about, and thats when your charismatic personality should come in and decide ok, they’re clearly upset about my work, let me call a village meeting with them, explain to them why certain things are happening and get to the bottom of everything else, and set a common ground, BUT calling them characters, and saying you are not speaking to these characters, and you a chairman and thats final, is just not the attitude…

wow so this is the kind of attitude people like yourself set for young persons like me. tsk tsk tsk SMH
    (shaking my head).

Mr Bazil is callng the residents of the village that he is the chairman, “The Characters”. This is total disrespect to the residents of Woodfordhill. He saying that he will only speak to person with a certain character. Well, Well what did we come to in Dominica where politicians think that they are above the people. Woodfordhill people stand strong because you need a chairman who sees no barriers.
