Volney dismissal controversy

Volney

It seems that it is a case of having pre-empted a DAIC decision rather than getting it wrong altogether.

DNO reported on April 5 that the CEO of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce Cyril Volney had been dismissed.

However one media report aired on Tuesday suggested that this was not the case.

DAIC insiders have since told Dominica News Online that the CEO had himself been making the rounds suggesting that he was being dismissed.

According to one report, only one board member had stood up for Volney when the association was discussing the possibility of ending his stint prematurely at the DAIC.

That member declined to comment when DNO contacted him, referring us to DAIC President Lilian Piper.

Piper told DNO that she could not comment on the matter.

Wanting to clear the air on the issue that we reportedly got wrong, DNO visited the DAIC office on Church Street and was told that Cyril Volney hadn’t been to the office there since last Tuesday.

One former executive member of the DAIC when contacted about this, said the association was in the process of moving its office and that could account for the CEO’s absence for the past week.

When DNO contacted CEO Volney by telephone in our ongoing effort to clear the air, he wasted no time in firing off the expletive “I think you should go **** yourself you *******”.

From what we have been able to gather, it appears that some decision on Cyril Volney’s future with the DAIC is currently under discussion, and that an official statement on that matter is likely to be made soon.

Everyone should control their language. Are you insinuating that you have never used profane language? Or are you a hypocrite and the pot calling the kettle black?

If Mr Volney was competent enough to manage a bank. CEO of DAIC is no job for him. They need a YES MAN who can sing their song for his supper.

Who said the fire the man? Oh Yes DNO, so you see what bad news can cause boss!!

Alice Mr. Volney was not fired he is still the CEO of the DAIC and unlike what DNO said the man is highly respected by the Directors, and they are not looking for any ‘Yes Man’, like all other organizations people will have their differences of opinions and may have bitter arguments but it is all for the good of the organization which is key!!

i don’t think mr volney’s response was professional… but as humans i think he has a right to be angry at d.n.o… in fact what d.n.o should have done was written an apology article about the matter… but d.n.o playing mind games and psychology by calling mr volney (while expecting a rude behaviour)…. then when they got what they wanted or expected… they have come and told us what mr volney’s response was…

d.n.o came saying there policy will be strengthened but i realise they don’t even follow their own policy… last time there was a situation where the commissioner didn’t go into specifics… d.n.o then said after doing ‘investigation’…. they came to a conclusion (i forgot what conclusion)…. i said to myself… isn’t that conclusion ‘hear-say’…. smh… ay lass mr volney when i heard the way you jump in and out about the chinese situation.. from then you never had my support… and from this interview i believe no one else will want to be recorded lol…

Where is Bro. Christian when you need him? Mr volney I am sorry you had to learn the hard way that you cannot live overseas for so many years and come back and re-integrate so easily into Dominica society. The people will resent you and your ideas and say is oshah you oshah. Tell Bro. Christian that saying nice things about a particular party will not help either.

This is tantamount to hazing. Why should he or any other returning Dominican have to kiss (it’s in the Bible) to come back home to help/work.You hate yourselves, your situations, stagnation yet it’s all talk, PRETENDERS. You do not want to do the work that it will take to change the status quo.Slothful & lazy. Pure ignorance. Jealousy? Small minded. Magway sa!

You made an excellent point. It stands to reason. The saying, “A man is not a king in his own country.” Our Lord Jesus Christ made that statement.
Envy and lack of appreciation for his expertise could do it. Some bosses like doing things their own way, sometimes an old-fashioned, disorganized and slow way which is costly. They do not like change and because they are the boss they also do not appreciate suggestions.
This is why some people who reside abroad do not return home to work and live unless they plan to open their own business, to be their own boss. Then they do not have to answer to anyone who is in charge.

Today, with computer systems, some people hear and read about certain people. Under other circumstances they would never have heard of them.
If you do not know the Volney’s or never heard of them in Dominica, I hate to state to you, “Who are you and where have you been?”

I don’t think DNo expected to get anything better from Cyril. We need to remember that Cyril’s first interview after taking the job was with DNO’s Ken Richards, where Cyril spoke his mind about the Chinese merchant sector. DNO did not do Cyril good when they released the entire audio interview online. I think Cyril had that response at the end of his tongue waiting for DNO. Volney is known to use the “eff” word very frequently and is an expert in its useage.
Having said the above, I believe the DAIC needs to come clean and professional and say what is going on. They owe it to the public! The DAIC is probably the major association of private enterprises and is frequently looked upon to provide guidance to the nation on matters affecting entrepreneurship. If the association wants respect, they must give some too.

      @ Hot Shot

…Which you appear to be, many people are against the Chinese infiltration in Dominica. Therefore, what is wrong with that? He has a vision for Dominica. Granted, China helps DA but China has sent many of its nationals to live in DA. This is questionable.
Consider that the U.S. helps but it does not send an influx of its nationals to live in countries that it assists. Dominican nationals have a right to question it and China’s motives.
Consider some years from now their children who are born in DA and will be living there because they are Dominicans may become a Dominican Prime Minister and hold other important positions. Their skin is so-called white. Will they integrate in the Dominican society and marry Dominicans? They will be free to rule the land and the negro (black) Dominicans will be left behind and who knows be oppressed including their Christian religion. Ever thought of that?
Some of you need to put on your thinking cap. You do not visualize what may happen in Dominica to Dominican nationals down the road. Do not be presumptuous and think that it will never happen in Dominica. Otherwise, as I stated, I have news for you.

So China sent the many Chinese living in New York and other parts of the USA there man? Lest we play ignorant and foolish and pretend that we don’t know that the US is one of if not the biggest Debtor to China with a debt of over USD$13 Trillion.

So hold up on that narrow-minded comment, i only hope is Dominicans alone that does go on DNO eh boss because those foolish comments really and truly gets to me!!!!

What are you really saying, “Justice and Truth?” Volney was not speaking against Chinese; he said they are Dominicans too and entitled to do business here as any native Dominican. Actually, I believe the same! When Dominicans with money fail to enter business or create the opportunity for locals to access low-priced products, we cannot blame foreigners for doing so. There seem to be nothing wrong with the products sold by the Chinese if they are sold by native Dominicans. But when Chinese sell those same products, we blame them for selling shit. So, it’s not the product; it’s the people; we are racists; sinophobic! If it were Americans who had opened business here, we would not have created the uproar we did with the Chinese. I fully agree with the statement Volney made about the Chinese. It seem the Government agree with him too.

  12. April 11, 2012

So DAIC needs to release a statement ASAP that Mr Volney was officially terminated April 3rd.. What kind of nonesense is that?Piper is not president of the board nah? She had no comment. Look a puppet show..

I don’t agree with you at all. I think he was provoked. I have been following Mr. Volney’s blog from since he returned home. And you can hear his love for Dominica coming through clearly on his blog. I think he had the best intentions at heart. And speaking for myself as a 44 year old woman living and working in Dominica, we have alot to change in our attitude. Not because we small geographically means we have to THINK small.

DNO what you are doing now to clear the air is what you should have done in the first place when you heard the news, maybe Mr Volney would have been more co-operative then..
I support his comment when you contacted him, because it is very very hurtful to have a person business on the media in such a negative manner… read the kind of comments tat followed the report.
