Witchcraft is alive in Dominica – Grandfather of Shanice Jemmot

The grandfather of 15-year-old Shannice Jemmot who was kidnapped and subsequently rescued after 40 days, says there was witchcraft involved in the disappearance of his granddaughter.

The Isaiah Thomas Secondary School student was first reported missing on February 17.

But her grandfather, Rawlins Jemmot, has a whole new perspective on the entire episode.

“There was a lot of witchcraft involved. That is why the police could not get through so easily. We know that there were people who we praying to keep that child in darkness. People said they saw her in Grandbay, Guadeloupe, everywhere, but that’s what the power of witchcraft does. We knew what they were doing. Witchcraft is alive in Dominica,” he said.

Shanice Jemmot, who was discovered on March 28, 2011 after 40 days of being reported missing, is back home.

Wow! Dominicans in the negative light again. So happy that God took me away from there when he did.

I have been praying for you dear Dominica and I won’t stop. Those that will endure the race good for them. But those that judgement finds guilty, will be burnt. Its heart breaking how serious this situation is ‘everywhere in the world”. But when you see and here it from your own country it is even more disturbing.

God will come in his time and that’s a day I look forward to, just for people like you.

    Sad story of ‘a people’.

And you’d think ‘you all’ would be wiser (that doesn’t exclude the childish mentality the comments portray)

Pure paganism and superstition, May Allah guide the Dominican people to Islam. We believe in one God, only Him do we worship without an intermediary.

Jesus peace be upon him submitted to Allah and we are waiting for his return to kill the anti-christ.

I cannot give my life to a white pagan blue eyed greco-roman god who died on a cross.

You need to follow the real messiah, the African looking Jesus and one who worshipped God. I am not a pagan, I do not worship human beings.

Amusing as the remarks in the following may seem, I am sort of ashamed that there are still people in our country in the twenty-first century, who still believe in such nonsense as witchcraft, or ” obeah” or voodoo as it is commonly referred to on some of the Caribbean islands.

If I was ask to guess what I transpired, in that issue!

I would simply say that a naive young girl slipped away with her boyfriend one day after class, missed-judge the time, probably fell asleep, and by the time she woke up, she got scared, and decided not to go home, thus avoiding having to answer to her parents, explaing her activities of the day.

The longer she stayed away from going home, the more difficult it became for her to get out of it. I do not see where obeah can cause someone not to want to go home.

And if obeah was involved, how come the obeah man was caught with the kid hiding under a tap.

If obeah was involved as her grand father claimed, the obeah should cause them to be in the open, and no one should be able to see them.

And how come the obeah did not prevent the police from finding their hiding place?

It is time we in Dominica, completely shed our slavery, and peasant mentality!

Such superstition, has caused well off people to be become broke because they spend all of their money paying obeah man, and woman to do things to people to kill them, and to make them get jobs also.

I can understand the older literate generations, nonetheless, to read where some man believe that obeah was responsible for his grand daughter eloping with one who may well be her boyfriend, is utterly ridiculous!

When I was little I heard about a obeah man in Goodwill, name Fireman, I do not know if he breath fire, or when he walked fire engulfs him, but he had a grocery store, he would leave the store, open cash register ( a draw ) in those days, and go to sleep, and people were so affraid of that obeah man, not one thief would go in to his shop and steal anything.

Then there was Tom in the village of Vieille Case, they said he was the boss of all obeah men in Dominica, who could make all the teachers in Dominica who could not past their teachers examination pass it; if only they use a pen he would give to them to write the exam.

Trouble is that when they use his pen they all would fail the exam.

    Money gone:

Yet in the twenty-first century, the superstition prevails!

All the obeah men and women in Dominica “doh” know what they doing if any body looking for some obeah, ” I is boss on that come see me oui!”

When shall we clean our mind from all these backward, and superstitious beliefs?

The kid ran away with her man, that’s all, so the grandfather embarrassed since she is fifteen years old.

I can understand that, nonetheless this crap about obeah or witchcraft, is baloney!

1st of all F-T DODDS aka FETE you are a grown arse man so what when you were little you coming with? you are OLDER than all Fireman children! FACT!!!

2ndly: where & When did he have the shop? aren’t you tired of tellig lies? he had a soap and oil making factory in Fond-Cole and would retail the products long before DCP at the market or drive around the country to sell it! FACT!!!!

3rdly: When did the child go to school and stay by her man and just continued to do so? didn’t you hear and read like every other SANE person she left for school on the morning of her disappearance? You always pretend to know so much and to be so informed yet you sit at your computer casting aspertions and telling stories about people and their families
Stop making up stories and stretching the truth. Shut your trap when you have nothing to say. You have all the stories wrong and twisted!

That mean you are one of Fireman children, that mean you obeah money is responsible for your survival. How are you surviving now that fireman (doh making money from obeah to feed you).

Shout your mouth, you daughter/son of Satan, what comes runs off the hill settles in the valley! What do you know about my age and fireman children, if you know when my umbilical cord was cut, that means you are older than I and all of fireman children.

I happen to know the family spent a lot of money (which they have little of) consulting “psychics/witchdoctors”. They were told Shanice was in Guadeloupe. Now they are saying that other witchdoctors “kept the truth in darkness”. Of course the witchdoctors will say this. They had no idea where Shanice was and went for the popular opinion that she was in Guadeloupe. To justify having given wrong information, and to make sure no one asks for a refund of fees, and to ensure future customers they have to come up with something.
    Think about it.
Please stop giving these charlatans your hard earned money.

witchcraft is alive every Grandpa. Where there is good there is evil. Your daughter claimed she did what she had to do to find her daughter did that involve witchcraft? You’ll need to start taking responsibilities for you’ll mistakes. Why don’t you’ll tell the whole story? I’m glad the child was found alive and well . Instead of blaming everything on witchcraft and other people why don’t you’ll raise that child to be a successful and strong young woman? I know some parents do their best and the kids still end up astray but some of us don’t do enough and we blame witchcraft.

First her mother say she do what she do to find out where her daughter was, and she find out the child in Guada. Police never take her on, find her right there in St. Joe, the girl was found, psych evaluation was done. everybody should be helping this girl heal and then here she is back in the media thanks to her grandfather. It is ridiculous that he is putting her in the public spotlight again. He should be happy to have her home and trying as much as possible to get her get back to a normal life.. but it seems like Rawlins Jemmot want publicicity so he sacrifice his own grandchild for it. I doe care what he believe, he should not drag this girl back into the media.

Whether or not witchcraft was involved in the abduction, we may never know. But for any Dominican or anyone who knows Dominica to deny that it is alive and well here is just downright damned ignorant or hypocritical or both.

And what is so outrageous about the man’s statement anyway? Those of us who are ready to admit their existence know there is almost nothing these people can’t do.

People, know your history, that this thing came with our black forefathers from the Motherlaand, Africa.
