Village Council hopefuls of Good Hope are expected to outline their plans and make a case for their election to the village council when they are officially launched at a rally this weekend.

The event is also expected to encourage residents to come out and vote since, according to organizers, voter turn out for village council elections is always poor.

Eleven candidates have been nominated to contest the Good Hope Village Council Elections carded for Monday December 17.

On Sunday, December 16, the nominees will participate in a motorcade through the community leading to a rally in the village centre in the area known as ‘Kwek Zikak.’

There, the nominees are expected to outline their plans and make a case for their election to the village council.

Local Government representatives are also expected to address the activity.

“Normally there is always a poor turn out for village council elections so we want to make a difference so people can come out to vote,” explained Ashille Grove, one of the nominees and organizers of the event.

“This is our opportunity to show that we are serious about development in our community and that we are ready to position Good Hope as a leader in local government initiatives,” Grove said.

The Good Hope Village Council election nominees are: Alphonsia Bonnie (Sister), Emma Bonnie, Victoria Bonnie (Mislas), Monique Charles, Ashille Grove, Alixon Labassiere, Jerry Labassiere, Georgiana Laurent, Gilford Laurent, Roma Stoute, Tricia Wallace.

Dominica Brewery and Beverages Ltd. is the event’s main sponsor.

The motorcade drives off from Dipax at 3:30 p.m.

In the past years this community has never had a organized group or arrangement of people that looked to foster the improvement of community. I think it’s a very prosperous and invigorating plan! Good luck in the future!

So, I’m wondering if any of the “Bonnie’s” are my relatives. I have an aunt in Good Hope named Christabel. Would any of them be related to her?

My grandparents were from Good Hope. And, all I remember about it is that, as a child, when we had to visit them, we had to walk to the top of a mountain and when we got to the top, we had to walk down the other side to get there. No easy feat. I’m sure as an adult, that mountain probably seems more like a hill now, and everyone probably drives. :)

I love the name of this village, “Good Hope.” This is one name that will never be changed. :) There must be some great history to it and for giving it this holy name.
Frankly, since I reside overseas I had forgotten about this village – the name; have never visited there; hopefully some day. It appears that it is a quiet area, free of crimes or major ones for it is not in the limelight. This accounts why I have not heard about it in recent years through the Media. :)
Good Hope villagers, please make a concerted effort to come out in numbers for the election. Keep in mind that your votes are important and they do count. Do not remain in the background. You can do much for your village and to encourage others who do their utmost to enhance it. Hope to hear more after the election, the outcome and the progress. God bless you!

i totally agree , the candidate who tops the poll should be the chairman but thats not how it works in local govt.. the five elected candidates and the three appointed members decides who should be the chairman. well that sucks but that the way is gonna be …

A reiew of local govt laws is required. the nominee who tops the polls should be the chair and the three govt chooses should come from those who were nominated. After all they have already indicated a willingness to serve. Its time politics get out of Village Councils.
