Govt signs contract with ACE Engineering for new citrus certification facility

The Government of Dominica, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, has officially signed a contract worth EC$7.9 million with local civil engineering contracting firm, ACE Engineering, for the construction of a new Citrus Certification Facility in Woodford Hill. The signing took place this morning at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room.

This strategic initiative is part of the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP), aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector and enhancing livelihoods in the wake of Hurricane Maria. The facility is set to improve the quality and safety of citrus production across Dominica, ensuring that local farmers can meet international standards and gain access to global markets.

Located at the Woodford Hill Agricultural Station, the new facility is expected to provide essential certificated materials to local farmers, significantly boosting the citrus industry. It will offer a range of testing and certification services that comply with stringent agricultural requirements, and will also serve as a hub for training and resources to help farmers refine their cultivation practices.

ACE Engineering, established in 1997 and known for its extensive experience in infrastructural projects, will oversee the construction of the facility. The project includes the building of a service structure, known as the Potting House, as well as general site improvements such as perimeter security fencing, gates, and site grading.

The Ministry of Agriculture expressed its commitment to fostering a thriving agricultural sector and is optimistic about the positive impact this facility will have on farmers and the broader economy.

In Dominica, the grabberment announces a new multi-million dollar project every other day. To the dismay of the perspective job seekers, these projects are mostly ghost ones.

Why do Dominicans allow themselves to be duped repeatedly by this evil, illegitimate enterprise?

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

  3. Educate Farmers Instead

Wouldn’t this money be better spent on training the farmers in organic farming? Farmers are now killing themselves and their people with the poisons that they continue to use on their produce. This money should be spent on educating them about healthy produce. And stop using the poisonous Round-up, that’s causing all sorts of illnesses on our people. Invest in educating Farmers and helping them to thrive. Farmers are essential to our present and future economy.
