The Grand Fond primary school had a lot to celebrate when it joined the pre-school in that community to hold its fourth annual Pupil Awareness Day on Friday 22nd November.

It was an occasion to highlight the cooking skills of the pupils as well as the award-winning presentations made by the school in recent times.

According to a release from the school, the event was organized to coincide with World Children’s Day which was celebrated on the 20th of November. The theme for the day was – “Working Together to Develop Our Children.”

Following the general assembly which kicked off the activities at 9.30 am, the school’s 4H club performed the choral speech presentation which won them the first place in the recently held national competition on the 20th of November. They also sang the kweyol song which earned them second place in the kweyol singing competition during the country’s 35th anniversary of independence celebrations this year. The pupils of Grades K & 1 did a performance in poetry.

GFond Pupil Awareness 2Another highlight of this year’s pupils awareness day at Grand Fond, was the exhibition of items of food and drink which were prepared by pupils with guidance from their parents. Each class had a theme for the exhibition which ensured a variety of dishes using produce such as coconut , breadfruit, plantain, green bananas, fruits and vegetables.

The pupils also had the opportunity to learn from the knowledge and experiences of five respected members of the community in the persons of   Shana Phillip who presented on table manners, Trevor Prince – discipline and respect, Nurse Tama Lawrence – personal hygiene,   Jones Lawrence – safety at school and Joyce Pascal, who presented on etiquette.

The school reports that the presentations were all interactive and pupil participation was “great”.

The day ended with a luncheon for the pre-schoolers  and primary pupils.

A number of parents, guardians and villagers attended the event and “It was indeed an exciting day for all who attended,” the release from the school concludes.

Congratulations to the students, teachers and parents of the Grand Fond Primary School. I am proud of my community and villagers for continuing to instill great things in the lives of the future leaders for our community and country. Let our children continue to see we are interested in them and only want what’s best for them. However, with all of this being said the only way this can be done is by us committing and devoting time to them. Let us love and cherish them as they continue to develop into brilliant men and women that will serve our community at their best. “Striving for a brighter future” that’s what they are doing. Let’s make it happen for them. Once again to the teachers I commend you and I believe that keeping this activity annual will show the kids how much the are appreciated by you and many.
