As the Grand Savanne Water Storage Tank project approaches its final stages, the residents of that Salisbury community await with much anticipation, the potable water that will soon become available to them.

The $2.5-million government-funded project, when complete, will consist of a 60,000-gallon storage tank, about 26,000 feet of various sizes of pipelines for both distribution and supply to the communities and a freshly cut 100-feet long road.

Parliamentary Representative of the Salisbury constituency, Hector John said during a site visit of project last week, that the people of Grand Savanne have really welcomed the project.

However, he said the residents of Coulibistrie whose water intake is now located in the heights of Coulibistrie, are anxious to be connected to the new system as they regularly experience low water pressure, especially now during the dry season.
He said they are confident that once this happens, their problem will be solved.
“They have been raising that concern because of the dry spell right now, they have been seriously affected by the project but overall it is a very good project for the Grand Savanne, Coulibistrie, Morne Rachette (area) by extension,” John stated.

John is also calling for an upgrade of the water supply lines in the lower part of Salisbury.

“Around 1990 to 1994 an upgrade was done in upper part of Salisbury and they have not done the upgrade of lower Salisbury and right now it is in a very serious situation, pipes are bursting all the time, it’s overworked and needs to  be upgraded,” he explained.

Meanwhile Housing and Water Resources Management Minister, Reginald Austrie, said Grand Savanne is one of the most rapidly developing areas in Salisbury.

“I remember when we launched the project they had a contract signing ceremony and many people didn’t think it was necessary, not even the parliamentary representative showed up for that signing ceremony and we knew he was in Roseau,” Austrie stated.

He noted that there are challenges with the project. “But (I want) to tell the people of Grand Savanne that very shortly as I understand it they will be receiving pipe borne water and that is why I am very passionate about the Salisbury project,” the minister disclosed.

He did not say how soon the project will be completed.

“These people have been buying water; they have been receiving water in less than hygienic and sanitary condition with those trucks and they have made great investment. They went out there to England, America and overseas, they worked hard, came back and invest in their country and for too long these people have had no water,” he remarked.

Austrie said he hopes that the leadership in the Salisbury constituency will grasp the opportunity and work with the government and not try to “destroy” and “mash up” the country.

“Work with the government to ensure that good things can come to Salisbury like it can come to every other part of the country,” he urged

About EC$10 million worth of water projects from Scottshead to Salisbury and Belles were visited on Wednesday.

Labour Power!!!! The people of Grand Savanne and Salisbury can now see that they are quite wrong about our blessed Government. Labour cares for ALL of Dominica and even despite fierce opposition we continue to do what is needed to develop the Country and make the lives of our citizens better. This particular article should be bringing more and more Dominicans on the great and mighty Labour Train. Now that Dominicans are seeing how Labour is moving forward and bringing our Island to the next level, soon there will be no supporters of the United Wicked People opposition. There will be no more senseless riots and insubordination. Dominicans are seeing the light. The blessed Dominica Labour Party is improving lives and bringing a level of compassionate governance never seen before in Dominican politics. The next election will definitely bring all 21 seats home to Labour. This is exciting times for our Island Nation. Let’s support and encourage the best Government we’ve EVER…

Thank God the water is finally on its way. I have paid a bucket full of money for farm water which I never get. The Haitians take all the water to water their crops only to leave half of it to rot in the fields. :-D

Austrie, can you for a moment deliver some good news without having to revert to your dirty politics? And you have the audacity to utter those words “….not try to “destroy” and “mash up” the country”?

Would you consider your words as unifying?

To all who keep trying to create a new village or hamlet in Salisbury take note: Salisbury and Grande Savanne are one and the same community. The large sanannah reminded the English of the Plains of Salisbury, thus the name Salisbury, replacing the Kanilago name Baroui (check spelling), The Grand Savannah. he French called it Grande Savan. So Salisbury is also called Grand Savanne, or Large Savannah, stupes

Dominica is doomed. There cannot be any positive in Dominica, politics hinders everything. There is never a “job well done” from the ruling party or the opposition when it is deserved.
