Greece’s new prime minister promises change

Greece’s new centre-right prime minister has vowed the country will “proudly raise its head again”.

After New Democracy’s landslide victory on Sunday, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he would not fail to “honour the hopes” of the Greek people.

The win comes four years after Alexis Tsipras’s leftist Syriza party swept to power promising an end to austerity.

But voters began to turn on Syriza after it accepted tough fiscal measures in return for an international bailout.

Unemployment and a shrinking economy further damaged support.

In the election, Mr Tsipras’s Syriza came second, with just 31.53% of the vote so far, according to official figures released after almost all districts returned their results.

If there’s any lesson to be learnt from the Greeks’ experiment with fiscal irresponsibility, it’s to be very, very cautious about government spending, particularly when it’s accompanied by debt.

Any political party that betrays the trust of the people should be booted from office. The voters of Greece did the right thing, got rid of an administration that promised them Heaven and gave them Hell. What are the voters of Dominica going to do? Every election, for the past two decades, Roosevelt promised international airport, geothermal energy, a robust economy, proper roads, sturdy bridges, state of the art healthcare, a blooming agricultural sector, a magnificent Roseau, ALL LIES! Instead, the masses get high unemployment, anorexic wages, political tribalism, corruption in high places, victimization, discrimination, nepotism, cronyism, misery and excruciating stomach pangs. All these things are incontrovertible. No right thinking people will ever reward such a corrupt and totally inept set of bandits with another term in government. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

“Any political party that betrays the trust of the people should be booted from office” – I wish we could say the same for Venezuela but there are no free and fair elections in that corrupt mafia state and people outside of Venezuela who don’t understand this support the mafia government because they were supposedly ‘democratically’ elected.
