The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. continues to be very concerned that cancer is still the number one killer in Dominica, especially among our men.
Hence, at the upcoming Hoop for Hope Family Day carded for Sunday, June 12, a memorial Room in honor of the 38 men who succumbed to Prostate Cancer in 2008 will be highlighted. This is being coordinated by the Gentle Rest Funeral Home.
Four hours hooping is the standing record in Dominica and was made by Girl Guider, ten year old Shanelle Etienne, of Massacre/Canefield School during the first ever National Hula Hoop Amateur Competition, which was held on December 20, 2010.
This standing record is being challenged by Hoopers from Convent High School, Dominica Grammar school, Dominica Community Secondary School, St Martin Primary, Mahaut Primary, Massacre/Canefield Primary, St Martin Secondary among others, and will be one of the main activities of the day.
The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. and the Ministry of Health are collaborating with a number of concerned citizens and organizations to encourage and sensitized the nation that cancer is preventable, if one and all take full responsible for their own health.
The “Hoop for Hope Family Day,” carded for Sunday, 12 June, 2011 at the National Windsor Park Stadium, will bring together Families, All Saint University School of Medicine, Ross University School of Medicine, Seventh Day Advent, Health Department, Pan American Health Organization, schools, and cancer survivors among others to see how best we can join the battle against cancer.
