On Tuesday 17th December, 2013, the Castle Bruce Health Team held a huge sporting day activity on the Gaulette River playing field within the Kalinago Territory.
It was an effort to continue their drive, to not only educate the community on the importance of physical activities but to also help them stay healthy. It was a wonderful opportunity to share and socialize with the people they served throughout the year.
With the help of cooperate citizens like, Rueben’s Bakery, Country Style Bread, Fine Foods, East Federation, Mr Gregoire Prevost of United Brothers, all were treated with snacks during sporting games.
In some of the events held, the health team was not SLIC enough as it was beaten by the community team in a rounders game. The health team could not redeem itself as it failed to reach the final cricket game which was won again, by the community team.
Sports Officer, Mr Alexander Burton and many other community persons like Reni Joseph, John Valmond, Richard Francis, Ulet Joseph, Pam Joseph, Mathew Elizee, Alganon Frederick and Ezra Elizee contributed greatly to the event.
Young SLIC members were presented with Christmas gifts sponsored by Sharon Wade of Wade’s Maid in St Thomas. A special gift was presented to Richarda Francis a ten year old from Mahaut River, who has participated in every SLIC activity and has completed every SLIC hike over the past two years.
It was a happy end of year Christmas activity with plentiful smiles, good food, nice friendships, strong partnership, colourful gifts, lots of fun and bright, hot sunshine.
Special thanks to the main organizers; Mrs Patsy Thomas, Paulette Francis and Winnie Joseph and the rest of the health team, Mrs Adora Toussaint from Health Promotion Unit and Kalinago Chief Mr Garnet Joseph for gracing us with their presence and participation.
The Castle Bruce Health Team takes this opportunity to wish everyone especially the communities of Petite Soufriere, San Sauveur, Mahaut River, Salybia and Castle Bruce a Merry Christmas and a healthy and blessed new year. The team looks forward to sharing 2014 with the communities which it serves.
