DDA promotes Dominica as a wellness destination

A shot from the video

“Are You Breathing? Dominica!” is the name of a new video initiative launched by the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) geared at promoting the nature island as a health and wellness destination.

The five-minute production, which was produced by LINK International, was launched at a short ceremony on Monday morning.

Head of Product Development at the DDA, Kathleen Cuffy, said the video will make it easier for potential visitors to see and appreciate the options that will make their holiday on the nature island exactly what it should be.

“The DDA believes that this niche will allow for further awareness of the island as a true haven for healing getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living to enjoy life how it was meant to be,” Cuffy pointed out.

She added that the video will further convince the European market that Dominica is the destination of choice when it relates to health and wellness.

The video can be viewed on various social media networks and will be utilized at various exhibitions, trade shows and will be sent to consulates and embassies of Dominica overseas.

Meanwhile Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Claudia Bellot, described the video as a marketing tool that promotes the island as an alternative to traditional health services.

She said the health and wellness sector can be taken advantage of by small businesses seeking a new niche to get involved in. However she urged them to keep local products which are on par with international standards.

“I have always said to many of the small business persons that they should not equate their local products with low standards of products … even if it is local it has to be on par with product that you can pick up in any overseas outlet,” she said.

She added that the products should be properly labelled and packaged and should not be differentiated from internationally purchased products in terms of the standards.

The video has already been aired on Facebook and has already received over 3,000 hits. It highlights the various spas and unique sites in Dominica.

It will always have to do with the frame of mind, if the body is going to function with vitality and good health–and yes! The state of mind will depend on its environment. The body will accept the production of the mind, hence the reason for the discomfort of pain and other physical irritations.

All a person has to do is to focus on the peacefulness of the scenaries in that video; that alone is enough to bring the mind into perfect relaxation–that is if the person of that mind knows how to appreciate the peacefulness of nature–willpower has a lot to do with it as well.

If the mind goes to sleep at night and starts the day with relaxation, the experience will likely continue throughout the day; and even that day presented some bad situations, that mind is well trained and disciplined to go back into relazation, and Life in the body will continue without the destractions, that could interfere with the feeling of good health and wellness.

I am glad to be a person from Dominica, we should consistently take time to give God the gratitude for blessing us with such beauty and relaxation in the landscape of our homeland, instead of breaking her down, because of the behaviour of those with no sense of appreciation for the good things around them.

@anonymous, I truly agree with you, however we must not forget that a lot of us have been removed from physical activities also. There are more vehicles on the island now which means less exercise and we consume more unhealthy foods as well which contribute to obesity and other diseases.
Dominica is really a therapeutic island and we need to cherish the lush green vegetation that we have. We know that trees give off oxygen which is vital to our bodies therefore we must realise that nature has to be a part of us for our survival. We are truly a part of the universe, as one author said.

While Dominica may be a wellness destination which is beneficial to tourism, the DDA should take note that locals often cannot seek to benefit from these advantages of Dominica as it is too expensive. Packages should be developed where to local people of Dominica can partake in wellness activities.
