Drug Awareness Week will be observed from November 22-26, 2010 under the theme ‘Think Health Not Drugs.’
The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit is encouraging all schools to observe the week by engaging students in educational and creative activities that will continue to raise the awareness on the dangers of substance use and abuse.
A special feature of that week will be five panel discussions among students of Secondary schools to be held at Portsmouth, Castle Bruce and Convent High School auditoriums from 10 am to 12 pm, respectively. Students will be given the opportunity to express their opinion on the topic ‘Should Tobacco Smoking be Banned in Public Places’.
The Health Promotion Resource Center will also make a short presentation on ‘Health Consequences of Tobacco Use’.
On December 3, 2010, the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit will host the Anti-Drug Song Competition at the Public Service Union Building on Valley Road.
The following primary schools will participate: Mahaut, Massarce, Campbell, Belles, Pointe Michel, Jones Beaupierre, Morne Jaune, Grand Fond, Pointe Michel, Colihaut, Pioneer Prep and Castle Bruce.
