The Dominica Cancer Society is continuing its collaboration with the Ross Medical School in offering Free Prostate Screening.
Following two highly successful campaigns in Roseau in which over 140 men undertook the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE), the society is taking its initiative on the road.
Those who have benefitted from this service have expressed pleasant surprise that it was such a simple exercise and feel more comfortable now that they are aware of their status.
This third campaign will serve the residents of the north. The Society is encouraging men of the north to come and take advantage of this opportunity.
This will take place at the Clinical facility of Portsmouth General Hospital Saturday the 31st of March 2012 starting at 8:30am.
The screening activities will include “Digital rectal examination” along with relevant medical check-ups. Men will be seen on a first come first serve basis. The Doctors and medical students hope to continue through the afternoon until they have managed to screen all those who attend.
There will be a choice of genders of medical students. At the end of the examination a report will be given to the attendee with recommendations for his Doctor to take appropriate action, if any.
Men are reminded of their tendency to be very irregular when it comes to their medical care and therefore, by the time a man experiences symptoms and gets checked it can be too late. This initiative again appeals to men to be proactive as far as their prostate health is concerned.
The society once again encourages men over 40 to take advantage of this opportunity to check on this aspect of their health.
Interested men should call Patrick or Neville to give their names to ensure sufficient refreshment s are provided. They are also the contacts for the prostate cancer support group.

Is there a flyer available with each doctor’s picture so we can choose which finger we want…please?
That ‘boomzie’thing is useless. They should take a blood test(PSA).
the problem with the PSA is that is it not as sensitive as the DRE. There are patients who would have a normal PSA value but be symptomatic for prostatism where a DRE is a MUST and if suspicious a biopsy
Fairplay, the PSA tells you that you have prostate cancer. wouldnt you rather you know that your prostate is beginning to enlarge or inflame before you develop cancer? would that be better for you? stop the fear of a little finger when most men now taking a whole , Admin pardon my french, just making a point.
SOMETHING ABOUT MEN,THEY ARE JUST AFRAID TO SEE THE DOCTORS BUT NOT WOMEN
digital is derived from the word digit, which is sometimes used to discribe a finger. so to answer your question yes.
@Roseau boy, I there saying digital is some sort of electronic screening we, lol
Does the process include insertion of a finger?
u would like that huh?
digital is derived from the word digit, which is sometimes use to describe a finger. So yes there will be insertion of a finger.
Usually it does but I’m not sure considering that digital usually refers to non physical so it may not which would please most men. I think the archaic way of sticking fingers into a man from behind to check and squeeze the prostate scares most men from the check up honestly.
a little research however shows that yes a finger is inserted in the exam.
