The Grand Bay Health District has desginated April as Cancer Awareness Month in that community, and has organised a number of breast and prostate clinical examinations as part of the Dominica Cancer Society national campaign.
According to a press release, at a meeting on March 9 the Grandbay Health District Team, the Ministry of Health Promotion, and the Dominica Cancer Society Inc. decided to observe April as “Cancer Awareness Month” in the Grandbay health district.
The launching of the month’s activities will be held on April 3, 2010, with a grand march through the Grandbay village, to begin at 4:00 pm.
Free Prostate Clinical Tests will be made available at these dates and venues:
Men only health clinics
March 24- Tete Morne Health Centre
March 27- Grand Bay Health Centre
April 10 – Petite Savanne Health centre
April 17- Pichelin Health Centre
April 24 – Bagatelle Health Centre
The press release added that the dates for Breast Clinal Examinations will be announced. Meanwhile, interested persons can contact the Grand Bay Health Centre at 448-63706.
The Grand Bay medical team comprise of District Medical Officer Dr. Cleona Peter, Family Nurse Practitioner Juliana Commodore, Community Health Nurse Magdalene Alexander, Nurse Educator Allison Samuel-Llyod and the Grandbay Health Team.
The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. is hoping to establish Cancer Support Groups in all seven (7) Health District in Dominica.
