The United States is reporting a significant increase in persons seeking attention in their health care facilities for influenza. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified the virus as H3N2 and can be treated with prescribed antiviral drugs.
Due to the close proximity and frequent traffic from the US, the Ministry of Health is advising the general public to be on the alert for Acute Respiratory Infections (Flu)
The Ministry of Health would like the public to remain alert and protect themselves from getting the Flu. Symptoms include Fever, Tiredness, Lack of appetite Coughing, Running Nose, Body Chills, Headache and Generalized body pain.
The Ministry also advises everyone to take the necessary steps to protect themselves, their families and the general public from contracting the Flu.
Here are some of the things you can do to protect yourself and others from getting the Flu:-
• Wash your hands with soap and water especially after coughing and sneezing.
If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizers and rub your hands together very hard for about a minute.
• Avoid shaking hands and kissing;
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
• Throw away soiled tissue in a garbage bin after single use;
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, because germs spread this way.
• Stay away from crowds, young children and very elderly persons if you are sick;
• Stay home from work or school until your illness is over.
• Drink a lot of fluids: Juice, Water, Coconut water and soups;
• If you get sick contact your health care provider as soon as possible ,especially if you are suffering from Diabetes, Heart Problems, Asthma, HIV/AIDS, Cancer or taking Steroid Medications.
Please be advised that Dominica is not experiencing an outbreak of H3N2 at this moment.
DNO how many people died so far because of this flu? I read 20 pediatric children is this true…and it also has related deaths in Canada
So … what shall this year’s flu be called? I believe the one last year was night landing. I love that about our Dominican culture. Lol
Avoid shaking hands and kissing: ehem, tell that to those waiting for a quick foreign squeeze. Don’t forget the AIDS ting too.
Humility the flu does not come from the diaspora or the us its all over,and just all the getting together.Carnival is coming and its going to spread drastically.
Thanks for the information.
Dominicans take note. Every year Diasporans come to Dominica for Carnival they leave a bad flu behind. This year the winter flu in America is terrible. PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!!
They even running out of flu shots in America.
Wow, another captured mind through the mass Media. Some of us can be captured by the Mass Media the moment we hand the keys to the definition of truth over to someone else,whether it be the News Media.
Oh the ignorance of some of us.
