A regional drug rehabilitation center is currently being discussed among health officials, and Dominica’s new Health Minister Julius Timothy said the nature isle could be the ideal location.

Timothy told a press conference in the Ministry of Health that it is the right of every individual to take control of their health and many or the problems being placed upon government would be reduced.

“Drug abuse is a personal thing. Once you get into the drug abuse, society has to help you get out of it,” he said.

Timothy said solving the problems of drug abuse on the island needs a collaborative approach.

A drug rehab of anytime in Dominica is worth its weight in gold. Whether regional or otherwise, its time for a drug rehab center in Dominica. This is long overdue.

All you all can see is income MONEY!! When these other islands drugists reach DA they will find it so sweet no going back home and more stress on we people. Doinica should have it own and not a REGIONAL rehab center. Poor us!!

i would like to ask my spiritual brother. did the good lord not ask us to be our brothers keeper. yes it takes commitment from the individual but it also requires that society offers the required support. Could you please inform me whether it is only pastors and priests who should be supported by society. What about those who truly need our help. When that blessed day comes and the lord ask’s us what did you do to help those with problems and in need are we going to say we just left him to deal with it on his own.

Oh please Dominicans, come on! if your hearts don’t hurt when you see young men and women losing their lives to drugs, you obviously have a problem. Or are you people just angry and bitter for angry and bitter sake?

Mental care and drug addiction are affecting our country and reducing our capacity for nation building.

When we rehabiltate our people we make them better able to contribute towards the country’s development, to look after their kids, protect themselves and raise their dignity as fellow Dominicans.

People all make mistakes in one way or another, and I guess some of us don’t care because most likely our kids and relatives are not the ones hooked on crack, but instead are the smugglers and pushers, and we benefit from the goods bought with blood money. A lot of us pocket it too.

But… in the meantime, while drugs are prevalent and the youth is being destroyed, we should find ways to not only reduce but to treat drug abuse.

For a people who do nothing but criticize and who always know what should be done, dominica should be far far farther ahead. I wish some of you would get off yours butts and put in an extra 3 hours of work towards nation building instead of the 3 hours of senseless talking, blabbering and complaining. Shame on those ridiculous comments! Misericordia!

Health Minister can we invest in some other money maker than a caricom rehab? We should be negotiating for money makers not rehabs.

Praise the Lord, building a regional drug rehab in Dominica might not be the best thing,We have to take a good look at this thing very carefully,First We are going to have drug users all over the region coming to the Island with their drug problem.Minister Timothy is right when He said drug abuse is a personal thing, but wrong when He said that society has to help you get out of it.(only the user can help himself get out of it,not society.)
It does not matter how many times you tell someone not to do drugs,or something wrong, once they want to do it they will.are We trying to create more problems in Dominica and call it business?
Take a good look at People that commit crimes, they go to prison for years and when they get out they commit the same crimes. One of the things We should do is teach the young People at an early age by taking drugs they are going to destroy their life and future or end up dead or in prison.Only a drug user can stop using when He/she is ready to stop,no one can make Him stop until He is ready or want to stop.
We see it all over the USA,People enter rehab every week, they spend thirty days, get out and say they are clean, three weeks later most of them are back using again. So it’s about educating the People about taking drugs and their future,DE LAVEGA wrote a wonderful poem.
Life’s path is not always clear, many of us look, but still don’t see,
We hear but don’t listen, this does not mean that slavery does not exist
Jesus struggle through great obstacle,so that We could learn to be free,
How to find our way through darkness, many of us will continue down a path of destruction like chained slaves, moving towards their graves,be free my Friends,be free.by De LAVEGA.stay away from drugs my Children.May God keep blessing the wonderful People of Dominica.

Good plan Mr Timothy… very good plan – I have heard that from people in town about best to get some of the paro’s working on a farm, keep them busy and off that stuff. Opportunity for income from other islands too.
