Herbalist offers natural healing, consultation

Dr. Heru Shango

Antiguan-based herbalist, educator and public speaker Dr. Heru Shango, who has been practicing holistic health for more than 20 years, is currently in Dominica hoping to impart some knowledge to members of the public.

Dr. Shango is a Doctor of Naturopathy and specializes in herbal regimens, detoxification, weight loss, reflexology and iridology.

During his week-long visit to the island Dr. Shango will hold a number of sessions and consultations to share what he considers the simple but profound message on being whole again.

The herbalist focuses on Whole Body Therapy, a completely holistic regimen he uses to heal diseases.

He says it’s all about bringing back the principles of natural living.

“As you can see today what is going on with our people we are a dying people. In order to reverse that situation we have to focus on going back to the ways of our ancestors. Back in the day we did not suffer from the diseases that we are suffering from today,” Dr Shango said.

He is encouraging members of the Dominican public to attend consultations planned for Tuesday July 3 and Wednesday July 04 from 6:00 pm at the Fort Young Hotel.

He says in his consultations he will focus on self diagnosis.

“How you will be able to look at your skin to know what is going on with the internal organs”.

Herbalist Shango says he will also pay attention to the “hair” during his consultations.

“Hair is a map work of the entire body and so issues such as hair loss, hair going gray in a particular area of the head are situations we will seek to talk to people about. We will be putting a lot of emphasis on gray hair as well”.

The cause of unusual body itch will also get some attention.

“When a person’s body is itching it’s an indication of something is going wrong or a particular organ system is crying out, ” he explained.

The question of reflexology will also be addressed by the holistic doctor.

“There are certain reflexes in the hands that connect to certain body systems. We are going to explain to some of the folks when they feel pain in certain areas that it is indicating that a particular organ system is crying out”.

Dr.Shango will hold a similar consultation on Thursday of this week at the Portsmouth Credit union from 6:00 pm.

Good for him. We need more like him. There’s Dr Sebi also in the US and these guys know their stuff. Keep an open mind.
I have been residing in NYC for the past 18 years and I can say that the medicine they give you keep you sick or always cause something else to break down.
I happen to have friends who are doctors and nurses. One doctor told me that phamaeceutical companies bribe them by sending them on vacation etc so that they could prescibe their products. So at times its not because the medicine is good but they get bribes to prescribe it.
One of my customers who came from Argentina worked with a scientist, who she said had a break through in curing aids. When he said he want to distribute it to Africa for free, they cut off his funding.
I have fibroids and they wanted to operate on me because I had insurance here in the US. A friend refer me to Dr Sebi/Maa products and since I have been taking it and change my diet as they advised me too, theres no need for surgery. I am fine. No more pain and the fibroids appears to be shrinking.
Island people have no reason to use all those chemicals when we have the medicince from our land. Listen to the man, he may know what he is talking about.
You want a cure not temporary relief.

By the way this is quite hilarious. I know Heru Shango personally by the way, he is a very knowledgeable traditional healer. I have done a few collaborations with him in Dominica and Antigua. He just recently did seminars in Canada which was very successful. but this is not Heru Shango and this is the most hilarious part , so somebody is joking around I wander who and I wander why.

Wow! What to me is peculiar is the fact of how copycats we are as humans. Priest Kelash business is not well for the ground and all of a sudden here comes the ” running of the bulls”. Remember folks Ras Bobby choose to migrate to another country to set up shop, leaving behind his homeland abundant with herbs for the healing of the nation. It had to take the genius of another man to see the value here in Dominica.. Go figure!

    • Tee
      July 5, 2012

Do you know why Ras Bobby migrated? He started learning and practicing right here in Dominica and what treatment did he and other herbalist receive at that time? What constraints did they face? That is what you need to find out. Learn the history, get the facts.

He has ALWAYS come back home to DA to work with those who would listen and ask for his assistance. He is a proud Dominican who makes this known wherever he goes. Ras Bobby is all about healing the ‘nation’ – Dominica and the beyond.

I wonder why some are bent on keeping others from his healing guidance. Go figure!

I was born in Curacao, I grew up in Dominica , my home, I live in St. Thomas, which is 1 hour and thirty minutes away. I travel constantly to many destinations in the Caribbean working as a herbalist. That includes Dominica and any other place that I need to go. my move to another sister island has positioned me to connect with many others who are versed in various disciplines concerning natural healing. this has caused me to collaborate with many such folks in pursuing my vision and agenda. Even if I was not born in D/a I have only known one home this is where I have built our family house and this is where I shall be, and only Jah can decide otherwise. This healing art is not a competition for me, everyone shall gravitate to who they wish and that is according to their omn vibration. If ever and whenever u travel again to Antigua, St. martin < St. kitts, Tortola, Anguilla, virgin islands, simply ask the people about Ras Bobby. By then u will have a better overstanding of who I am and what I am about. My life is about healing people my friend , healing is not a basketball game. If u had any Idea of how many people I have served successfilly u probably would give me a little respect.

  8. Respect
    July 3, 2012

People are so quick to criticize our natural talent in the Caribbean. Never underestimate the power of nature’s healing. I suffered with infertility for years, took all sorts of shots, pills and tests with no results. I went to a herbalist and in less than 3 months I was pregnant and have my healthy baby right now. Strictly drinking the teas made of leaves and bark, doing daily cleansers and eating healthier made a difference.

If you can, go hear what the man has to say, what have you got to lose? Missing an episode of Young and Restless? Please!

    • June 7, 2013

Thanks for your support my sister. We have created a stir in Antigua. This is because numberless sisters have been advertising the herbs and our service on street Radio.my popularity has come from endless hard work and amasing results. A few days ago this lady from Barbuda called and said Ras bobby I want u to know that the cancerous lumps in my breasts are gone. this other sister whose dad was not able to urinate because of prostate cancer can urinate without a catether once again and so many fibroids we have been successfully removing and all this is happening because of all those years of experience using the stinging nettle, neem, red clover, hydrangea , vitex , cohosh, flax seeds and so on and so on. this healing art is a serious thing I tell u . This is not about sensationalism and capitalism. This is about hard and dedicated work. herbalists in ancient times studied for as much as 40 years. I have 7 more to go but in the meantime, Jah keeps blessing I with more information to share.

Do you ask that to any business in the US? When the Chinese propose to sell their cheap items in D’ca do you ask them for freeness? Everyone has to eat bread and pay bills. What makes you think it is OK to provide free services to you and you are eligible for pay when the table is turned around?

That is the problem with many (not all) Dominicans, they like to be given a fish everyday and refuse to learn how to fish so they can have their own catch.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Available scientific evidence does not support claims that naturopathic medicine can cure cancer or any other disease, since virtually no studies on naturopathy as a whole have been published”

They should not allow this guy to come to Dominica ans spread this rubbish called naturopathic medicine.

Cancer is “big business” in the U.S. and anything that competes with it will be undermined as everyone seeks for a competitive advantage. I have known of people who were admitted into hospices because they were dying of cancer with no hope of recovery and were healed after a series of treatment with herbal medicine.

I am by no means advocating that people should stop taking their conventional medication, which is created from herbs, by the way- but one should not limit their knowledge.

I have not taken conventional medication in over ten years – not even for a headache. I grew up on herbs so I take herbs- only a matter of knowledge.

Why are you keeping your self in ignorance. What do you know about the American Cancer Society. Why is it that you believe that such society has the authority as to what scientific knowledge is pertaining to cancer or any aspect of health.Do you know the American Cancer Society has nothing to do with the science of Cancer as you would want to believe. Can you tell me how much money such society spends on cancer research from all the money collected, by the way billions and most of that money is not put into research.

You know it is very sad that you can go to the American Cancer Society to get information and then think that it is an authority on the subject and use that to establish a truth for you, thus allowing you to make statements regarding homeopathy. All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.

Listen let’s embrace anything herbal. We might learn a thing or two. That’s how our ancestors survived. They did not run to so call “Modern Medicine” for everything, and guess what? many of their remedies worked, and is still working today. One of the comments was that money is the name of the game. So what do you think those pharmaceutical companies are making (money) by stealing our remedies, adding some chemicals to it and selling it back to us to kill us. As West Indians we need to start embracing our own. So what if the man makes some money teaching us something that most of us probably don’t take a minute to try to learn. Wake up Dominica, we living in serious times. United we stand, divided we fall.

    Hi liz,
I appreciate your opinion. I can’t pinpoint anything in this life that is free anymore. Sorry to say so, but even within the church – I believe everyone is entitled to eat and drink and we all must give and take.

Herbal medicine is ostensibly his business and I am sure those who are interested in learning the benefits of herb will understand that and will not protest the “money” part. Perhaps this might serve as a springboard for someone to turn their passion into a profession. We must grab every opportunity we can get and opportunity is not always free.

It’s about time we learn to utilize our resources for product innovation.

gone are the days when the medicine men and women were positioned to posively influence and advice their people, gone are the days when the healers were taken care of by their villagers, gone are the days when all the people owned everything together.

Many, many prescription drugs are derived from (or synthetically reproduced from) rain forest herbs & plants, as well as sea coral. The reason they are “derived” and not used in their natural state is the drug companies cannot charge obscene prices for plants.

Please Dominicans, stop revelling in your ignorance. Go tell your grandmother there is no value in the native herbs and see what happens.

You can drink his bush medicine, and kill yourself with it. Yesterday I was presented with a blog where someone in Dominica claim to be a medical student who said they volunteer to even buy medication such as Ibuprofen to treat people on the Carib Reservation who has diabetes.

Some of you will believe that nonsense, I would like to tell that stupid person that Ibuprofen is the same as Motrin, which is specifically used to treat pain and relax the muscles.

It is not used in the treatment of hypoglycemia, or hyperglycemia ( Diabetes Mellitus ), it has no effect on diabetes!

It cannot lower the volume of glucose in the blood.

I am sure that you might believe the crap the person wrote, the problem is that the person wrote that on a very popular website, where the world may have read that nonsense and people are laughing at us, Dominicans right now.

I am going to get local and say: all-you accept all sorts of foolishness people throw in your faces; drink doctor obeah-man bush medicine and kill yourself: I go be still alive when you is dead oui. I doh is going an die wid you eh!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahah

I have a medical problem that can kill me any day, a China man introduce me to Chines herbs he told me I will be cured if I use the Chines herbs coming; to find out he suffers from the same medical issues that I have and longer than I, however all the China-man herbs he drank has not cured his problem as of yet.

First off, Shango does not mean “obeah.” I did not know what Shango meant, did a basic Google search, and you appear to be wrong. Shango as a name may be connected to Obeah, possibly, but it certainly is not the same thing.

Secondly, it’s the man’s name. If I was a Hispanic male and my name was Jesus, would I be Jesus Christ? I hope you don’t actually think that. What does a name have to do with anything?

Finally, while I am skeptical of this man myself, why are you assuming he is trying to con you without even having gone to see him first? Why not do more research? If your definition of “Shango” is any indication, you need to stop jumping to sloppy conclusions and stop and think more clearly before you type.

        @ Samantha

Some people change their names especially when they follow another belief other than the Christian faith. They revere a human being rather than our Almighty God. As Francisco stated, “Food for taught.” I like that. :)

    • July 3, 2012

      FETe

I see your point with the idea of money being the name of the game, that is for sure; and that love for money is the cause for human beings, who continue to defile God’s plan for Life on this present Earth.

And so, I cannot agree that herbs are not made to cure people, for I don’t believe that there is one form of prescription drug that was not evolved from some form of herbs; the only problem is with the various chemical mixtures in the drug, in that they will tell us not to take one kind of drug if you have another kind of illness–not to mention all the side effects in the one you are allowed to take.

For example I have been told not to take a certain medicine for sinus pain because I have hypertension, and so it was suggested that I buy kinds of medicine to help my sickness, but the two would cost me much more than the one which could give me complete relief–except that they said it would raise my blood pressure. All of that is nonsense.

Finally I know for a fact that God gave man all sorts of herbs for food and medicine. Read it at Genesis 1: 12-13. But again the problem has a lot to do with the love of money in mankind–God cannot do His work through them.

Right now my son is in a very bad shape at the hospital, with kidney and vision problem because he ignored his medication for diabetes. He has had diabetes since he was 16 years old, he is now 31 years old. His neglect of his medication started when I no longer had control of his Life

I am sure that there is a herb that will control diabetes–perhaps even cure the disease–but it is the same problem about money and the love of mankind towards money.

As as the answer is revealed to those who do research, the first thing to consider is how much I can make because of this revelation–the wisdom is taken away from them no sooner than they had received it, because God has said: “No flesh shall glory in my presence”.

Hi friend, I wrote about the moringa tree and some folks took it for a big joke. but it is a fact what \i said about it. If you have anyone in Antigua ask them too send you some of the moringa leaves. Give it to your son to chew. the leaves taste like tamarind leaves. It could be eaten in anything. Just ensure that it is eaten raw. I know of one who is diabetic and he is no longer on the medication, because the leaves control the blood sugar and the blood pressure. which means that you could also chew on the leaves since you are hypertensive. good luck to you.

Francisco, every conventional medication taken gurantees a side effect, one of which is death. So your claim that taking his medicine will take make one worse bears no weight.

Furthermore, saying that he MIGHT be playing obeah man is mere speculation as you are playing a guessing game here and accusing someone baselessly. You need to come better than that. If you have solid evidence that he is an obeah man, I will support you, but until then you need to hold your horses.

There is a lot of obeah everywhere – in government, medicine, academia, even the churches (and I am a Christian)etc. In fact, it is mostly in these places you will find master masonry (lodge).

This is great – perhaps the younger generation will show interest in what their forefathers embrace. Herbal medicine was very much appreciate by the older generation. There still exist a number of people from that generation who are well-versed in that area. I learned a great deal about herb from them.

Dominica can be considered a land of herbs, but they are being under-utilized due to lack of interest and knowledge. This presents a great opportunity for the young people, in particular, as well as older folks who wish to broaden their knowledge in that area.

Grow your own. Parsley, mint, chives, vegetables, etc.
I recently read boil parsley and mint separately as a tea. These are anti-inflammatory. They are body-cleansing.
It is said that we should eat onions and garlic. These are all natural resources which we do not make use of as we should. You have a computer. Do your research on such matters.

I agree we should grow our own – which is what dominicans do – that however does not mean you are knowledgeable about it. These go hand in hand. There is no point in having something you do not know about.

True, also, that there is a whole lot of information on the internet. Likewise, there is a lot of information on the internet about conventional medicine- does that mean one need not go to medical school to be a doctor?

I am certain if he was a white man or a chinese he would be embraced – just the black man mentality.

I would like to express the optimism that you have. But according to Francisco, it is too obvious that money is the name of the games people play.

And for sure, all that people are doing in this world is to play the games of win and loss. The winners who are a very few go out laughing–except the joke is always on them.
