People of the Laplaine district will get a chance to know if they are cancer-free early in the new year.
In the month of January, the Dominica Cancer Society will conduct cancer screening in the area, as it seeks to help reduce cases of the disease in the country.
Father Franklyn Cuffy, Public Relations Officer of the Cancer Society, says too many Dominicans are dying of the disease.
“Cancer is indeed the number one killer in Dominica. At least 18 to 20 persons die every year with cancer. In the recent past I had funerals for two seven-year-olds who died with cancer… The cancer society is hoping to have support groups in every health centre in Dominica. For the whole month in January we will be having cancer screening, not only of breast cancer,” Cuffy said.
According to Cuffy, the screening has been successfully conducted in the past.
The meek shall inherit the earth.
Hardly I can believe that.
I would like to encourage the people of La Plaine to take advantage of this opportunity. This is something very beneficial to the young and old. We too have had our share of cancer cases and
in memory of my beloved uncle who passed away a few years ago from this disease, I encourage each and everyone to get checked. Good luck my people!
