Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that the Marigot Hospital which will serve the north east of Dominica is near completion.
He made the announcement on his weekly Annou Pale talk show on Sunday.
“We are also near completion of the Marigot Hospital to serve the north east of the island,” he said. “This hospital is about 95% or so complete.”
According to him this facility will offer an expansive list of health services, including outpatient, emergency and inpatient services such as; dialysis treatment.
He said very soon residents of Wesley, Woodford Hill, Palm Tree, Marigot, Atkinson and Calibishie will no longer have to go to Roseau to get dialysis treatment.
“They will be able to get this for the first time at this brand new Marigot Hospital,” Skerrit stated.
These he believes are significant investments and improvements in the health infrastructure.
“And they are supported by measures to increase efficiency and improve service delivery,” he indicated.
The Prime Minister went on to say that his government is employing specialist doctors to provide care to the population and introducing new services such as the recently opened cardiology department.
Meantime, he said the passage of the Health Authority Act last month now allows the government to implement administrative changes which will boost accountability and provide citizens with improved health services at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
“They say a picture is worth more than a thousand words. “And just viewing the picture of the inside prevented me the critic of all things in Dominica from criticizing what I saw.
I have to admit that the little I saw in that room compels me to say I’m satisfied that it has the resemblance of a modern hospital, which I may compare to what I’ve seen in the United States.
At lest two gurney can roll past each other without colliding!
A well design building (hospital) however; without properly trained general practitioners, and specialists in certain field of medicine will serve no useful purpose.
Therefore I would hope it come equip with a good scientific lab; and modern machines such as MRI, CT, and Doppler flow, machines and other very essential diagnosis instruments even the best EKG machines.
Roosevelt acknowledge dialysis procedures, good, but that should not be the only priority, as a highly operating theater must come with modern operating instruments also equip…

As always, this is a case of gross negligence and contempt for the entire Northeast because of dirty politics. Skerrit is short sighted and wicked. Our airport is located in Marigot. That hospital should have been priority number 1 two years ago. It makes perfect sense to construct this facility as quickly as possible, however the lies wrought by Kenneth and company unfairly marginalized the Marigot constituency. The Mexican Ambassador laid bare, the share incompetence and maliciousness of this current administration. So now we must in essence, bow down to the “Dear Leader” for doing what should have been done years ago, while the tax payers continue to foot the bill for his EC$64,000.00 a month lifestyle.

There is a lot to complain about and some unsettling details as regards to many of the capital projects undertaken by the DLP Majority Government.
Skerrit has made a whole lot of poor decisions over the last 20 years, and truly delaying the hospital project in Marigot due to political animosity is one such mistake, we all know the Mexican Gov’t donation excuse, whereas using our own monies to build the hospital could have been done a long time ago. #noHero!!
On the surface however, this is something to recognize as a step in the right direction. This is testament to what we can do as a people for ourselves when there is inclusion. I pray we banish petty Politics in Dominica and think rather of the National gain when we work together for the advancement of our country. One of the most majestic single piece of infrastructure in Dominica is the Pierre Charles Secondary School. It was built by the UWP.. I can’t remember any showmanship from honourable James.

Healthcare, National Security and Education should be top priority for every well governed country. When a government fails to adequately provide any one of these, the citizens are done an unpardonable injustice.
The Margot Hospital, when fully completed and well resourced with the most modern equipment and amenities, the best health personnel and renamed in honor of someone from the area, who has given yeoman’s service to the community, in this particular field, should be welcomed ecstatically by all.
The parliamentary representative for the area, Mr. Linton and many other ordinary Dominicans from Margot and the surrounding areas have lobbied and agitated long and hard for the restoration of this most vital service. Kudos to you. I’m sure your tireless protestations, unrelenting appeals, forced the hands of those who allowed the original building to fall into disrepair. This should not have happened n the first place and should never ever be allowed to happen again.

You are so right. The FAA threatened to withdraw the licence for Melville Hall not long ago due to the lack of medical facilities in the immediate proximity of the airport. Does it matter who the contractor is/was? The Marigot Hospital needed an UPGRADE. It’s done. Those needing dialysis will no longer have to go to Roseau. I’m pretty sure dialysis is not the only major service that will be provided. Say what you may, but be grateful.
Hopefully, the providers will be Marigot residents so they will not have to travel to provide much needed services.
The tendering process is of absolute importance in any public project. This is where most corruption in government happens. – no bid contracts. Who pays for this corruption? The citizens.
To recoup the millions lost by corrupt practices, the government increases taxes, on the people, wages stagnate, roads and public buildings (public library one example)fall into an irreparable state of disrepair, etcetera.
