Ministry of Health emphasizes immunization

Report to your health centre and get immunised – that’s the message Dominica’s Ministry of Health is emphasizing in its bid to reach people who have not been adequately vaccinated.

Health officials are also appealing to the Haitian community here “to visit the nearest health centres and get immunized”.

The advice is in keeping with Dominica’s observance of Vaccination Week Americas under the slogan “For you, for me, for everyone. Get vaccinated”.

The annual hemispheric event endorsed by the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) is being held from April 21 to 28.

Activities for this year’s observance are focusing on continued immunization against Hepatitis B.

Officials here say vaccines will also be offered to the elderly, 65 years and over,  especially the Seasonal Influenza vaccines.

According to the Ministry, Dominica has been privileged to achieve the eradication of some of the vaccine preventable diseases such as polio through sustenance of high levels of immunizations.

It says the Country continues to report immunization coverage of the target population of 98 per cent and over for all vaccines offered under the Expanded Programme on Immunization.

The use of vaccines by the Ministry of Health is described as one of the major factors in disease prevention.

Officials say Measles, Rubella and Congenital Rubella Syndrome have been eradicated in Dominica –  the last case was reported in 2002.

Vaccines are linked to higher rates of Autism in children. They contain mercury and peanut oil, allergens that can create more harm thatn good. If the rate is so high and the vaccines work well then parents who choose not to go this route have nothing to fear.

Please change this picture. Since the advent of Universal Precautions the portrayal is inappropriate to see that the health professional drawing up the medications/immunization is not wearing gloves, this is a real NONO.
