More medical scholarships from Cuba

Dominica is to benefit from more medical scholarships from Cuba, Health Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux has said.

The quota for scholarships from Dominica will increase from five to seven, he stated.

“They have increased their quota of medical scholarships to seven and in addition to this they have also made available every year, four or five specialists services available to us,” Darroux said.

This, he stated, means that up to five specialist doctors can receive scholarships from Cuba on the condition that they must be currently employed in Dominica.

“So it’s really not open to Dominicans who work overseas,” Dr. Darroux said, adding that this in itself is “right in tune and timely in keeping with the new hospital.”

He went on to say that at the end of the construction of the new facility in Dominica, “we would be in a better position to have our own Dominican-trained specialists to work at the hospital.

“In fact some of them would have three to five years experience working in the various specialties,” Dr. Darroux said.

The market is nearly saturated with doctors already, and with this new development it will be even worse.
Some will have trouble eating. And the government will not be able to absorb all of them, even with a spanking new hospital.
There is such a word as PLANNING, Mr. Ministers of Health and Education. I know it’s not a favourite word in Dominica but we need to start making it part of our everyday vocabulary.

I am happy for anyone who is afforded the opportunity to further their education and acquire a profession especially a noble one as a Doctor of Medicine. However will there be an adequate budget allocation to employ all these doctors and provide the resources for them to practice their profession according to the international standards?
Princess Margaret Hospital as it operates now is not allocated sufficient financial resources to function optimally. Will a new and bigger hospital requiring more staff, more resources and an increased operational cost get the finances required to function optimally?
If so, why not start financing Princess Margaret Hospital adequately NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I exempt four (4) of them oui! I know Jonathan is a real medical doctor, as a matter of fact a long time ago, when I first got ill, upstairs crying giving up the ghost, a call from him came just time to pull me back from the edge. He advises to come to visit with him in Dominica, I took an X-ray with me which a doctor here gave me claiming that some horrible was wrong with my spinal column. Jonathan took a look at that X-ray, and then took me to the PM hospital and had an X-ray done, when he saw the X-Ray he advise me to return here and sue the quack!

Griffin treated my father at the PM in Roseau, and he ensured my father made it out alive. Christian I know is a medical Doctor, I scrutinize his records, and found nothing, regarding malpractice in this country against him, not one complaint. As for the boy Christmas, I have yet to hear anything outside the norms about him, so he has my trust! All the rest are fart! Hahahahahahahahahahah!
