Red Eye outbreak now affecting entire island health officials say

A case of Red Eye

The Ministry of Health and Environment has said that a Red Eye outbreak is affecting the entire island.

The outbreak was first reported on May 30 in a few districts but now there are reports of the disease in all seven health districts, Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Johnson said.

“I can confirm the outbreak of Red Eyes is affecting the entire island,” he said. “All seven health districts have reported cases if Red Eyes. It is significant to the extent that it is affecting all age groups, so both children and adults are affected.”

He said the outbreak will have an impact since those affected have to take a few days or up to a week from work or school.

The Ministry has heightened its Public Health Response including its Public Education campaign. All Health Districts have stepped up surveillance and management of the disease.

Red Eye is an infection of the covering of the surface of the eye and eyelids. This infection is very contagious but it can be effectively treated at home.

Red Eye is spread easily from person to person.

Listen to an interview below with Dr. Johnson on the outbreak.

Woman you make it quite easy for people to dislike you, and even hate you! I will stop short by suggesting DNO censor all the crap you write on the site; but there is no truth to anything you write here. Everything you wrote in the quote above is a lie, except where you said “God Chose the Jews.”

How can you say the Jews were first on earth?

Lady, you are ignorant, you might be the stupidest person to submit fart on DNO. Take it from me say I say, because I can prove it: Say I say human life began in Namibia, in Africa, and if you read the Bible and understand what you read you will find out to which tribe the Jews belong. You are too dumb to even understand the garbage which comes from your own thoughts. I can tell you for a fact, and prove it scientifically that the two first people to walk the face of the earth in the person and of Adam and Eve, were Black; and since the discovery of DNA, all human life; Jew and Gentiles are traced back to Namibia in Africa. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it! Every human alive owe their life to black people, because out of Black people comes every other ethnicity!

Stop talking nonsense, you are crazy!

This morning the thought came to my mind, do any Dominicans take Phillips Milk of Magnesia? This could help this eye problem since it appears it may be an inflammatory problem or so I hope. And so I decided to access that article.
I recall in Dominica my parents would give it to us, their children on occasion. It is a body cleanser and not a harsh one. I did not like the taste. However, it has a neutral taste. I had no choice but to take it.
I hope it is manufactured the same way as before and has the same effect. Why do I say that? In winter I thought of purchasing Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil. A few years ago I bought a bottle. I went to the same store to purchase it.
I noted one has an orange flavor and another a carrot flavor. I commented about it to the cashier.
Anyway, I bought it. When I opened the box, I noted the bottle has a brown color and I could not see the content. Furthermore, I observed the ingredients are “fish oil” and “cod.

I wondered what type of fish oil is in it other than “cod”. I thought I could not drink it and returned it to the store for a refund.
I want the original; not a substitute. The bottle is transparent. I Google “Cod Liver Oil” and noticed a few different ones. I had taken note of the manufacturer’s website in England. I thought of contacting the manufacturer. I got busy and forgot all about it. If I have time, sometime I will contact them.
Cod Liver Oil is nutritious and healthy for the immune system. It could help prevent a cold. I thought of asking someone in Dominica if it is still sold in Dominica as before and if the bottle and contents are the same, the real Cod Liver Oil as I knew it then. If so I would purchase two bottles and would ask the person to send them to me.
Dominicans with this “red eye” should take some, even better when they notice it for the first time. Cod Liver Oil cannot harm them just as taking Milk of Magnesia.

  6. It is okay for so called doctors, and other medical professionals to go on radio, and television and talk crap, half the time they leave confuse, we find that in just about all of the foolish comments wtitten in resopnse.
The is there are twelve different causes if Red Eye, or ‘Pink eye.” I will however, only discuss two!

    1. Subconjunctival Hemorrhage
Subconjunctival hemorrhage represents a burst blood vessel in the eye. Blood collects under the conjunctiva, the thin layer of tissue covering the eyeball and inner surfaces of the eyelid. The cause of a subconjunctival hemorrhage is not always apparent. Some common causes of this condition include violent coughing, powerful sneezing, vomiting, heavy lifting, and injury to the eye.

Risk factors for the occurrence of a subconjunctival hemorrhage include diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), blood-thinning medications, and blood-clotting disorders. Despite its alarming appearance, a subconjunctival hemorrhage is…

Risk factors for the occurrence of a subconjunctival hemorrhage include diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), blood-thinning medications, and blood-clotting disorders. Despite its alarming appearance, a subconjunctival hemorrhage is usually not accompanied by a change in vision, discharge from the eye, or eye pain. The condition is harmless (benign) and the body will reabsorb the blood in a few weeks. There are no known complications from this condition.

      2. Blepharitis
Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids. It is often a chronic condition and usually involves the part of the eyelid where the eyelashes grow. The condition usually affects both eyelids. Clinically there are two forms of blepharitis: anterior and posterior. Anterior blepharitis affects the front of the eyelid from which the eyelashes arise. Posterior blepharitis occurs when oil glands located near the base of the eyelashes become clogged.

      Blepharitis may be caused several…

This is also not what’s going on in Dominica right now. But yes it does course red eye as well.

      • Binda
        June 23, 2017

Yes that could course red eye. But not the course of Red eye on the island. It’s more the case of conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is contagious.

    • Conclusion:

Blepharitis may be caused several diseases and conditions including dandruff of the scalp and eyebrows, bacterial infection, rosacea (a skin disease characterized by facial redness), allergies, and eyelash lice. Symptoms of blepharitis may include excessive tearing, red eyes, foreign body sensation, eyelash crusting, decreased vision, swollen eyelids, sensitivity to light, itchy eyelids, and loss of eyelashes. It can be a frustrating condition, but usually responds to warm compresses, washing the eyelid margins, and applying antibiotic ointment.

    • Binda
      June 23, 2017

Yes that could course red eyes but that’s not the cause of red eye on the island. What’s going on right now on the island is contagious.

    • Binda, what is your argument about?

I do not understand the half line nonsense you wrote: what causes the problem; you have identified it based on what you read in my submission, something that is taught in medical school, not as a theory, but a medical and scientific fact; you contend that is not what is going on in Dominica, How stupid are you?

If you believe what I wrote is not what is going on in Dominica, and you are a medical doctor, with more recent information; explain it in writing better than I have done, submit some precise information that will refute everything I said in my submission!

The problem with people like you is that you have no leg to stand on educationally, and like to show it. Whosoever you are note: I do not have a medical degree, but I have a solid medical background, one who went into a medical school and drop out; which put me in a position, knowing more than some of the quacks operating in Dominica.

    • “that is taught in medical school, not as a theory,”

Let that read “that is taught in medical school not as a hypothesis, but a theory, and medical scientific fact! For you to say that is not what is happening in Dominica, makes you look stupid, okay!

Now wonder people like have no name; you write all sorts of crap using fictitious names where you cannot identified. Are you not ashamed of your stupidity! Do not comment if you do not know about the subject!

You know, some people, even strangers love to shake hands. I never extend my hand to anyone. If per chance someone especially who I am not personally familiar even though just met or having a chat wants to shake my hand (it happens), I state, “No shaking of hands.” We would think in this age with all sorts of diseases, they would know better not to extend their hands to anyone.
When out and after returning in, the first thing I do is to take off my shoes and then wash my hands. This is a good practice especially in a big country. I could cite various reasons other than colds, viruses and other diseases.

I do not know about a virus or airborne illnesses. Are those preventable?
I am one who takes Vitamin Supplements. Vitamin E, C, D. I have others as B complex :) . You can Google them and others for further information and decide for yourself.
While I am writing I am drinking a fruit smoothie, one of my favorite, homemade drinks for also health and strength. :)
By the way, how much water do you drink daily? Water is cleansing and replenishing. It helps dehydration. It is good for the blood, heart and brains.
In a climate as Dominica, nationals should drink ample water. It is stated, 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. They should be medium ones.
How often do some take a detox to cleanse the body/bowels/blood? Not a harsh one
Fruits and vegetables will also help.

    • Let The Truth Be Known - Original
      June 22, 2017

A few years ago I heard a US doctor state on a US TV Station that all illnesses are due to inflammation of the body. He also suggested that prior to surgery, patients should take a detox.
Well, let us face it. Generally, when it comes to proper nutrition, there are times we could be negligent. This could be the cause of such illnesses. If it is contagious, it will be spread.
I just thought, prior to retiring for the evening, faces should be washed with a mild cream/soap. If women wear make-up they will clean their faces. How about the elderly, men and women, the youths, boys and girls who do not wear make-up? They may be out during the day but may not give it a thought to do so at nights as also washing the hands. It is important to practice proper, general hygiene which may avoid these diseases.

the story could have at least say how to care for red eyes at your home…come on MOH

    • This might help you:

Classic symptoms of “pink eye” can include red eye(s), discharge from the eye(s), itchy or scratchy eye(s), excessive tearing, increased sensitivity to light, and crusting of eyelids or eyelashes. The most common viral cause in children is adenovirus. The most common bacterial cause in kids is strep.

Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis usually involves antibiotic eye drops or ointments. Antibiotics cannot cure viral conjunctivitis and it just has to run its course. The majority of cases of infectious conjunctivitis resolve without complication.

Now if the problem is caused by glaucoma, that will require a different treatment entirely!

And by the way, washing your eye with young coconut water, or putting cane bush in water in dew at night, pour it in your eyes is not treatment or a cure, that’s nonsense!

    • Let The Truth Be Known - Original
      June 22, 2017

This disease did not materialize by itself and simply by the eyes. Inhaling some unknown substance could cause it. There is something in the blood which could have caused it.
Dust could also cause red eyes but it is not a virus. It could last for only one day or two. This is for those who are employed in a dusty place.
Are you aware that the computer keyboard is a good source of picking up dust especially if it is not covered when not in use? We are to clean it frequently.
Another one is the telephone. How often is it cleaned?

      • Facts you are a damn fool, if you a witch doctor keep such stupid opinions to yourself. You hogwash, and stupidity makes me want to vomit! You are just pulling nonsense from thin air, talking fart without any substance, you cannot prove any of that nonsense medically, or scientifically.

Name one substance you that stupid woman knows when people smells it or eat it which causes Red, or Pink Eyes!

Dominica is know as a fools paradise, it is dunce, and stupid uneducated people like you on DNO writing sot (foolishness) that have the world laughing at us, as if all of us are ignorant people. Give me one source from you got that lie from, you need to shut up, you are dumb

    What Is Red Eye?
“Red eye” is a general term used to describe red, irritated and bloodshot eyes. It also may refer to:

Subconjunctival hemorrhage, or broken blood vessel on the sclera
    Blepharitis, or inflamed eyelids
Stye, or a red bump on the eyelid
Special-effect contact lenses to create a “crazy” red-eye effect
    Red eyes in photos
The appearance of red eye ranges in severity from a bright red that completely covers the sclera to a few enlarged blood vessels that look like wiggly red or pink lines across the “white” of the eye.

Red eyes usually are caused by allergy, eye fatigue, over-wearing contact lenses or common eye infections such as pink eye (conjunctivitis).

However, redness of the eye sometimes can signal a more serious eye condition or disease, such asuveitis or glaucoma. If your red eye persists or…

However, redness of the eye sometimes can signal a more serious eye condition or disease, such asuveitis or glaucoma. If your red eye persists or worsens, always contact your eye doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

      Common Causes Of Red Eye
Conjunctivitis. Also called “pink eye,” conjunctivitis is one of the most common (and contagious) eye infections, particularly among school children.

It occurs when the conjunctiva — the thin, normally transparent membrane that covers the sclera and lines the eyelids — becomes infected.

When the conjunctiva is infected, the blood vessels within it become irritated and swell, giving the eye a red or pink appearance. In fact, a reddish-pink eye is a telltale symptom of conjunctivitis.

There are different types of conjunctivitis — and therefore different ways to treat pink eye — so be sure to always visit your eye doctor for correct diagnosis.

Guess what you people are talking about a curse that happened in the bible and we are just like the people in Africa are sick and brainwashed and needs help. Carl Marx said the bible and Christianity was created for the feeble minded . Jesus never excited as a white man I don’t know why black Christians are praying and quoteing the bible , he chose the Jews already , so you should not waste your time praying to go to heaven . If you hate black people you hate your self . If you believe in the bible I hope you burn in he’ll .

Exactly who are you? I should not be shocked at what you stated but I am. Where did you get your information from? It is untrue and misleading and will also confuse the gullible and vulnerable.
God chose the Jews. They were on earth first. However, when Our Lord Jesus Christ came to earth, some of them rejected Him. As it is stated in Holy Scriptures, “I will make you (the Jews) a jealous nation. I will go to the Gentiles.”
My advice to you is to also read The Book of Revelation – all races from all corners of the world.
God knows why He created all races, all colors of people. I formed my own conclusion. “If we cannot get along with each other here, we will never get to Heaven.” There are peaceful people; some others are not.
The Holy Bible is the Word of God. We Christians are obligated to believe in it, read/ study and practice it. If we do so in holiness, we will get to Heaven.
Tell us, for a non-believer where will you go to when you die?

Faceup, is there something wrong with your typewriter or your spelling?
It is not thin skin. When we note errors we correct them. Know that everyone makes errors. It may also be a typographical error.
Some errors are not always of our doing. A computer system could also do this. I note some of my words change. It is not my computer system. I find it strange for I know I did not type that word or the end of it. I try to be very careful. It is as if there is a spy who watches what I write and change some words to make my comment appear in error, to look foolish, stating it mildly. If I notice it I will correct it. There are times I do not notice it. Check your keyboard.
I have computer security. All I have to do is to do a Computer Scan and the scanner will detect and remove them, if there are any. It also prevents viruses, etc.
