Timothy commends DAPLD

Health Minister Julius Timothy is commending the efforts of the Dominica Association of Persons Living with Disabilities (DAPLD) on the observance of Blindness Awareness Month commencing from May 03rd-31st.

Timothy was delivering an address to observe month of activities says the Ministry of Health is very concerned about the visual impaired in Dominica.

“The associations’ decision to set aside a whole month to focus on blindness was drive by the global initiative of vision 2020-the right to sight-whose overall aim is to eliminate then main causes of avoidable blindness and to prevent the projected doubling of vision impairment between 1990 and 2020,” he said.

Meantime the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities Incorporated has planned several activities to observe the month of activities.

The objectives of the programme are to encourage sight preservation and the need to eliminate avoidable blindness.

It is also geared at assisting persons with impaired vision to function in an independent capacity as much as possible.

The month of activities is being held under the theme: “Increasing Awareness and Educating the Sighted World about Blindness.

    Yes, this is necessary. Had I known then what I know now, I probably would still have 20/20.vision. Take this seriously and educate yourselves to protect your good sight.
