Timothy making steady progress

Health Minister Julius Timothy
Health Minister Julius Timothy

Dominica’s Health Minister, Julius Timothy, who was air lifted to Martinique a week ago after he collapsed at his home from a mild stroke, is said to be making steady progress and is expected back home soon to continue his recovery progress.

“All I can say to you is that he is making steady progress and we are all happy about that … he is very much aware of his surroundings but his speech has been affected and they (the hospital) are working towards that with him,” a source close to Timothy stated.

There were indications that Timothy was to be flown to Miami for further medical attention and treatment. However, a decision was taken to keep him in Martinique. “The hospital (in Martinique) is packed and he needed urgent help especially with his speech which has been affected and the hospital was saying that they would not have been able to help in that regard until May 7, 2013 but that decision was reversed and so he was allowed to remain there,” the source said.

The source also indicated that the health minister is expected to be back on island some time this week. “We expect him back on island soonest. Tim is upbeat about his recovery and we also expect him to make a full recovery on his return,” the source remarked.

Timothy is 61 years old.

@ Franciso ..”Here is what I know about strokes medically, and scientifically.”

One of the reasons, people in Dominica takes people to court; and get them to pay hundreds of thousand of dollars for their tongue, is because of accusations such as you have made regarding me.

In the first place, before you try to advise me, you need to get even a kindergarten education, before you try to deal with me because you are beneath me. In the first place you do not know how to spell a common name as Francisco, nor do you know how to spell plagiarism; so my advise to you is to keep your advise and use it to construct your mother’s burial, and yours also!

You do not know me, and certainly I do not know you; how on earth can you write a statement stating that I have plagiarized someone words. Let me inform you that you have accused me of benign a thief, since plagiarism means to steal and pass off the ideas or words of another as one’s own.

In reality what you have done to me is know as libel in a court of law: I have every authority right now to sue you for the written defamatory statement, you made about me, or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression, damaging to my character, and reputation.

If you want some lessons in Law, I can give them to you also, and where I cannot manage my younger sister Bernie Telemaque can accommodate you; you are like a little puppy chasing its tail!

Who ever you are; if you had a name, I could not care where in the world you reside I would be there this very week to file law suite against you, and you had better take that seriously.

And to the one who is talking all that crap, about if t I can afford a nurse and all, before you think I am a liar: I can refer you to the man who today became the manager of the Aid Bank, Julius, he met her, he knows her, we spent many hours in his home in Ajax outside of Toronto, he cooked for us, and entertained us in his home., so you can ask him if he knows Francisco Telemaque, and if he ever met an American nurse named Rendy Parker

So you little rats do not have anything to say about me, read me and if you have nothing good say, just shut up, shut up!

I pray for Mr. Timothy recovery. However, not all Dominicans can afford to be flown away in a helicoptor. Ministers of Government do something about our health care it is much more important than the 27,000,000 state house. this has nothing to do with politics people, its just a concern that has an impact on “us” the less fortunate.

The source? Whats the secrecy? Who is the source? He is our Minister of Health and his progress is for public consumption.

We pray the day we can have a hospital with all the modern facilities of any developed country. We must aim for that so that money stays in our country.

Even if we may not always agree with some of China’s policy, we must be grateful for the good they have done in this country and we hope that the hospital I’ve heard they are embarking to build will be a ‘state of the art’ one God’s willing.

Hello. The Government need to make it easier for us who reside abroad to open a saving account. It takes two weeks to get an appointment at a bank to be interviewed. I brought my tax return and my pension statement but I still get a run around. I went St Thomas and it took me one hour the same day at Scotia Bank to open an account. That is part of the reason why they don’t have money to reinvest because they are preventing us from bring our money to Dominica.

Mr. Timothy, Stay strong in mind and get up and out so that you can continue in the mission that God is allowing you to pursue. Some of us are wicked and ungrateful and cannot leave you alone. But there are others of us who pray for you everyday and ask God to heal you. Forgive us all and rise again that some will die (out of jealousy) because of your kindness.

My friend from St Maarten and I had a heated friendly discussion on Mr Timothy being taken to Martinique for further treatment.

She said only in Dominica they taking people to other islands for treatment because the health system suck.

There was a shooting in the Fish Day in St Maarten leaving one person dead and several others seriously injured. Some of the injured were air lifted to Guadeloupe for further treatment.

So I called her and told her that maybe the health system in St Maarten suck since transporting patients to Guadeloupe for treatment and all she saying is ‘but but but.’

Point is, that while the health system in Dominica suck…..it is not only in Dominica patients are taken to other countries for further treatment.

    • May 6, 2013

As a doctor or doctors from any hospital–it the patient’s Life that they are concerned about–in Canada people are being airlifted or moved from one hospital to another, so to save the patient’s Life–if that can be done. So does that mean that the medical service in those various places in Canada sucks?

Not only that, those who can afford it go to the United States, from Canada, expecting to get better service, but in most cases they still die–does that mean that Canada’s Medical Service sucks?

Mr. Timothy is not a young man; a stroke at his age can be deadly–depending on it strength. Why can’t we understand that doctors in Dominica decided on what was best for the man’s Life at the time–instead of thinking so negative about our homeland and her people?

It is sad to think that those such people are receiving commendations for their negative opinions.

    • May 7, 2013

Dorival, people travels to other places for treatment, however it depends on the treatment, and sometimes they may require a specialist in certain field of medicine to treat their condition.

Assuming someone got shot in their head, a general practitioner or an ordinary medical doctor may not have the skills to go into the brain, remove fragments of bullets, and repair that part of the brain which sustains damage.

However a brain surgeon will be required, now which would be cheaper, bringing the brain surgeon to the patient, or taking the patient to the surgeon? The surgeon will not leave his base, because he may have dozens of patients to see each day until they are discharged from the hospital.

The person who said Dominica medical system sucks is correct, and Timothy’s actions confirms that.

I could elaborate more on strokes than what you saw in my submission on DNO, and I can tell you if we have to send someone out of the country to treat what appears to be a mild stroke, that tell me the our medical system is substandard.

Look I have a nephew in Wesley, walking around with a withered arm, he fell off a truck, and sustained some injuries to his rotator cuff, as a result of not having someone specializing in orthopedics at home, my nephew has lived all of his life with a withered hand which could be corrected by any first year orthopedic surgeon.

Dorival, many people life has been forted because of incompetent doctors, even our late Prime Minister Rosie Douglas

I know people from Wesley who died from an over size heart; I have a nurse I pay to look after me full time, we travel all over the country, and up into Canada every Summer, she has an over-size heart, yet she lives an normal life.

I am hyperglycemic (diabetic), so I keep her employed to ensure that I take my medications on time, eat on time, do my physical exercise and keep my doctors appointments; I never saw her breathless not one single day in the ten years or more she looked after me.

And when it comes to dancing she can Rock-N-Roll, so when I hear people drop dead in Wesley from a condition that they could have survived is proof that our medical system sucks

And you were correct, I meant Plato!

I hope I got the name correct this time.

So maybe Francisco Etienne-Dodds Telemacque since you are “bien bankay” that you can afford to have your own personal nurse, then is it disheartening to learn that you did not help when you could at the least the Wesley people who died. I can probably hold you responsible since you could have helped and you didnot and you knew that the “health system sucks”. My pardner I have always thought that you are high handed and a know it all. Instead of all those fancy speeches, you Mr Telemaque should try to do something for some of our persons who do not have the necessary “funds’ like you do. You need to do something over where you are and it is a shame, you did not help your Nephew with the withered hand.

One thing I can tell you is that Mr Timothy is a man who personally helps persons for medical, etc. So Mr Timothy has worked all his life, has his own business and is forever helping persons so when is his turn, he will get help as well. “Give and it will return to you”. And to compound matters, the Gentleman has his sons who will do what is best for their father so you should not even speak about that … I am not even speaking about him being the Minister of Health yet.

Now finally, since you seem to be versed in so many things (medical), why don’t you something on your end like colaborating with some medical personnel and creating a fund or gateway where you can assist Dominicans instead of criticising all the time.

Just saying and I am not at war with you Bro!

      I agree with your conclusion…………..

However when the Minister of Health (or parties concerning him) does not have sufficient confidence that the health sector in his country is capable of treatiing a stroke (A stroke found to be mild later on) then (in my opinion) we dominicans in the country should be very cautious about recieving treatment in the beautiful Nature Isle of the Caribbean. :-|

Here is what I know about strokes medically, and scientifically.

Although, I maybe capable of elaborating extensively on the subject, I will be careful to be limited to “Stroke syndrome” which is a symptom complex caused by a disorder of the blood vessels serving the brain, with impaired blood supply, and ischemia.

Called also stroke, cerebral vascular accident, and Cerebral Hemorrhage, or Cerebral Embolism accident.

Types: there are four neurological events associated with strokes; transient ischemic attack (TIA), reversible ischemic neurologic deficit (RIND), stroke in evolution (SIE), and completed stroke (CS).

TIAs are temporary attacks that come on suddenly, and last only a few minutes to not more than twenty-four (24) hours, although they often are not recognized as such, they are a warning that a completed stroke can occur.

During the attack the person may feel a weakness or numbness on one side of the body, slurring of speech, or inability to talk, visual disturbances such as blindness, or double vision, and staggering, or uncoordinated walking. These symptoms are short-lived, and reversible; unless the person knows about them and their significance, the episode is often ignored.

It is essential, that lay people be educated about a TIA because the probability of a completed stroke occurring at some time after a TIA is twenty-five to thirty-five per cent.

RIND is an event similar to TIA except that the symptoms last for several days to a week; there is complete, or nearly complete recovery.

Like TIA, RIND is an indication that the person is at high risk for a completed stroke. A person with a stroke in evolution (SIE) is confirmed when the progressive changes are witnessed by a physician.

The person with a completed stroke (CS) exhibits symptoms associated with severe cerebral ischemia resulting from an interrupted blood supply to the brain. Persons most at risks for any of the four types of strokes includes those with hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart disease, and other cardiovascular disorders.

Obese persons, heavy smokers, and my kind, who are plagued with “diabetes mellitus, are at high risk.

I will not go into: Cerebral Thrombosis Cerebral Embolism, nor Cerebral Hemorrhage. However because Timothy abandon PMH, and the doctors he appointed, for simple treatment as follows tells me that he has no confidence in the medical services he is providing to our people.

Note: if one cannot prevent a stroke, the only way to treat it is with blood thinners and physical exorcize.

    Treatment:

For an ischemic stroke, medical professionals may give the patient anticoagulant medications, such as tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) or a variation of aspirin, to help dissolve the thrombus. Direct injections into the skull at the blockage site may help dissolve the clot in more serious episodes.

In the case of a hemorrhagic stroke, treatment will vary based on the cause of the leakage as well as the extent of the already-inflicted damage.

The physician will try to control and stop the bleeding within the brain by regulating other factors that may encourage leakage, such as blood pressure.

In more serious cases, doctors may choose to drain the pooled blood in the skull by needles and catheters to relieve pressure, hopefully halting further tissue damage.

If he had to go Martinique to get that, then we do not have doctors in Dominica.

      • May 7, 2013

Thinking: I do not concern myself with those stupid uneducated people; they would be happy if I was on the same level as they are. Fact is I have a sound medical background, the medical information I disseminate, are what I learnt in my medical training, that is in my head, and in the medical text books I used in college, and university.

What I submit is text book material!

Some of that came out of premed school.

I went through it all human biology, anatomy, physiology, psychology, including abnormal psychology, and all that it takes to become a medical doctor so I do not worry about these simple can’t read stupid people you know.

Dominicans are as such when they find people who are on the same low level, and lower than they are, they feel happy about it; I am sorry I have to disappoint them: some of us are endowed with an educational blessing, whereas some will forever yearn and wish they had one tenth of what I have in my head.

I returned to Dominica on vacation at one time, someone who heard I was involved into electronics came to and ask me if I could help resolve a problem he was having with his TV, I told him I am happy to help him, an idiot he also ask me if I knew about the outside Antennas, and complained that they were sold in Dominica for just about more than the television set itself.

At that time I operated a electronic business on the island of Antigua, I told the guy who died in Texas a few years ago, when I return to Antigua, I could send him an antenna, and it would cost him less than a hundred dollars East Caribbean dollars.

Well when the idiot Cerrence St. Aimie heard that he went ballistic, calling me one liar to the next.

Next thing you know he turn out to be a huckster, who traveled to Antigua, selling bananas and dashine, walked in front of my place of business one day, I saw the sucker bend his head to the ground, and could not face me.

Meanwhile Francisco had his electronic business plus, a small cargo ship, anchored in the Port of St. Johns, and my shipping business, but that’s the way our people are, jealousy, and envy has no bounds, and it is because of their jealousy they are critiquing me.

It matters not how they feel about me they cannot remove what I have learnt out of my brain!

Not: do not be offended, nonetheless, there is no “C” in Telemaque.

Why is it some of you cannot simply respond to the article and by wishing him well and refrain from offering advice? Who asked you for advice? You are wasting your time. His progress depends on his health. His doctors are the primary ones who will be monitoring his progress and will advise him accordingly. Of course, if he is not restored to full health, he will not be able to return to work and by no means immediately. Therefore, allow in that time to make this decision one way or the other. It is not for you to make. Your advice is unwarranted and obviously will never be heeded. Do you think that he and his doctor will pay heed to what you stated? Wish hiim well and pray for his recovery. This is an act of love which Christians should practice unfailingly.

Right now it is clear that you are upset with Tony for wishing the minister well and suggested that he should put his health and well being first, since he has served Dominica well? What’ wrong with a concerned citizen sharing his opinion which makes a lot of sense? While you want him to stay with the subject on article, you are running your mouth all over the place trying to correct everyone, as if you and you alone seem to have the answer. Take a break my friend and time out yourself until you have a clear understanding of what “Justice and Truth” really mean. You seem to be VERY FAR from both.

I agree with you are saying here. This woman disappears from DNO for a few weeks, and she suddenly appears–with all her personal ideas–which makes no sense either– and then she goes bossing and judging everyone of us who respond to the news article, I see a 100 comments and more than 50 belong to her–she makes me want to grind my teeth together until they break–Geeeeeeeeez!

Unfortunately, for me, she would not know the pain and I need my teeth to smile pretty when the need arises. But that woman is really a pain in the neck–I wonder whom does she thinks she is?

“Parl Rep ” that is how we call each other. I pray to God for your full and speedy recovery. You are one of the great pillars of Dominica. May the good God continue to guide the hands and minds and hearts of your Doctors and Nurses at home and overseas. The whole nation is solidly behind you especially your constituents and labourites, loved ones, your huge fan base and countless others.

Very good news and I am very happy for my friend Timo. I do hope he makes a full 100% recovery.
The bad news though is if it had not been Timothy and his family was not able to send him to Martinique, we probably would be looking at a crippled man the rest of his life. This should be used as a wake up call for the government since Mr. Skerrit chose a State House Palace over a State of the art hospital. As of last week, Mr. the nation’s only hospital was without paracitamol, not even to mention surgical equipments. So while I am very happy they were able to fly Tim to Martinique, I am very concerned about the well being of those who are not as fortunate as the majority of us here are and the RED CLINIC is out of supply.

@heart, what exactly are you questioning? What crap do I have to research? Assuming that you are upset about me saying that Skerrit chose a State house Palace over a State of the art hospital, I stand by my word and I do not have anything to research. The $27 Million palace is not a free gift given to Dominica; We have to pay it back. At that same time, there was a need for a hospital and Skerrit acknowledged that and referenced the state of the art hospital. Yet Mr. Skerrit chose to invest $27 million on a state house, that will only serve a few of them, over a hospital that would serve ALL OF US! What about this fact that is crap? Come with facts before you post you crap my friend.

@ truth offends This PM is so incompetent that he cannot prioritize what is going to bring the greatest good for the greatest number in this poor country. This ‘State Devil’ built with about $30 000 000.00 loan was a blatant disregard of the wish of the people. Health care was placed on the back burner and Skerrit was doing what he wanted. Can you ll remember ‘Go to Hell, it’s not your dam business’? Shame on him.
HE DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE VOTED OUT. He and his 17 pieces of plastics, has crippled the country, causing us to be the laughing stock of the Caribbean.
PMH hardly has a funtional machine. Good for Tim Tim he could go to Martinique. Had it one of the poor Labourites,he fools every 5 years there,he/she would have died longtime.
In a country with no vision, the people will surely perish.

whaw, what did I say to get so many thumbs down? I know it cannot be because I wish him 100% recovery because we are all humans and we are not insulated from sickness and disease. There is no way it could be because I said that if it was not Timo maybe he would be crippled. I know we have allowed politics to blind us, but there is no way we would get so blind to the point that we cannot separate truth from wrong. Are we saying that whether it was Timothy or not he would not be crippled? If you think I am wrong then tell me how many Dominicans that are crippled as we speak because they could not go to Martinique. Or are you all mad because I said that Skerrit should have spent the $27million on a hospital than on a State House? Somebody would have to be blind, crazy, brainwash to disagree with me. At the end of the day when they get sick they will be air-lifted to anywhere in the world; but if we get the fever and do not have money to by parasetamol, crapo suck our pipe. So if you are like me as most of us in DA are, then you should give me a thumbs up.

People are not obligated to agree with you. Everyone has a different view since they possess their individual character and personality traits and do see things and think differently. Free to agree or disagree but amicably.
Does it mean they are wrong because they disagree with you? If you feel so then you lack maturity and are in dire need of it and growing up.

You just say it as it is.It’s good that Timo,MINISTER OF HEALTH had to experience the inconvenience of travelling abroad for medical attention just like the rest of us. at “Bounty” Yes age is always a factor, I have know people in their 20’s that have gotten stroke. I had a friend who was 18 when she got a stroke. So 61, 21, 18…. still what is the point of saying he is 61, there was no need to put that in. Its like they even forget to put.

thats why we are being left behind, some of us too foolish!!! yes you could get a stroke at any age, however your risk increases with age and with preconditions like hypertension, obesity etc… and besides, if they were talking about you, dont you think mentioning the age of the patient would give better insight to the person reading the info??? but i guess i already know your answer, stop being soft between the ears!!!

If DNO had not given his age then there would have been many people wondering what his age was. The age was given as general information.

I don’t think DNO had any “MALICE” in doing so.

      Let’s not be so sensitive.

      Best wishes Hon: Timothy
