Henry Shillingford cites Vince Henderson’s lack of ‘connection’ to Grand Bay and Skerrit’s ‘unfair’ snap election as his reasons for running in Grand Bay

Henry Shillingford

Attorney at law Henry Shillingford has stated that his decision to contest the December 6 general election in the Grandbay Constituency, is to run against Labour Party’s candidate Vince Henderson who he stated has “no connection” with the Grand Bay Constituency.

Shillingford noted that he has lived in the southern district for the past 20 years.

“I have been appalled that they have imposed a candidate on my community, Vince Henderson, who I know very well, who is from St. Joseph and has no connection to Grand Bay. So this whole idea of somebody coming into such an important community where I have lived for the last 20 years really drove me.”

He said, on a practical level, without him becoming a candidate, the right to vote in that constituency would have been taken away.

He further stated that he also took the decision to run because of the unfairness which was displayed to the opposition for their unpreparedness for a snap election.

He contends that when Prime Minster Roosevelt Skerrit announced the elections, the United Workers Party (UWP) had no leader, which placed them at a disadvantage.

“This appalling and inequitable situation that the Prime Minister of Dominica forced and stretching the limits of the Constitution by not only calling early elections but calling it when the opposition was clearly waiting for their convention to appoint a new leader,” he added.

Shillingford said if elected, through assistance from international bodies, he plans to improve the community by revamping and rebuilding infrastructure that have not been in use for years.

He identified the development of sports and arts as the major issue in the constituency.

“MP’s themselves for their community, can create an NGO and community organizations and then seek funds from international organizations to do certain projects. For example, you can’t play basketball in Grand Bay, they have three courts and none of them are working,” Shillingford noted.

“The main community arts performance area, Ma Tou Tous Park, has been totally destroyed for the last five years. Grand Bay has maybe the best Savannah in Dominica overlooking the sea, a place that I think can hold both a cricket field and a football field, which is also in shambles and has not been used,” the aspiring grand Bay parl rep lamented.

He went on to point out that the Community Center’s entire upper floor is dilapidated, and added that Grand Bay is a prominent agricultural center on the island yet the roads are in disrepair, which affects access to farms.

Shillingford expressed his vision of Dominica as the Nature Island of the world and the icon of environmental governance. He hopes to bring the principles of love and care into fruition in the social space and stop  “this total gangster image of this current government” as, according to him, this current government is “the most corrupt government per capita in the southern hemisphere.”

Vince Henderson from St Joe = Herchel Walker from Texas.

Neither of them is running in the constituency in which they live.

The outcome, by the people, may not be an effort to make democracy work in Dominica, or even vote Red, but what one can get to fill the belly at the time; and believe me I understand it. The difference in Georgia, there is work so Georgians do not have to depend on a Turkey or a Christmas ham like in DA where there is no work and no money to buy one of these, as opposed to a government created poverty strategy, that Maduro inherited from Chavez the one Skerro has mastered and is employing to win elections.

Jesus Christ was there all along but was seriously visible for only three years.

So many people in Dominica we think are “ok” are downright broke. And when you are that broke and desperate you will sell the entire country for a bottle of rum, or an invite to labor party. We keep blaming Skeritt but he is not the only one reaping off our country. Our friends and neighbors, and even some of our greedy relatives are giving away Dominica. Shame on all of you dishonest and greedy hyenas. You all will not proper.

Running in this mockery of an election is of no moment. In fact, it’s downright ludicrous as one would give legitimacy to buffoonery.

Despite your verbose explanation as to your reasons for participation, the real reason is to massage your over inflated ego. That’s it.

Henry, honestly brother I don’t know what drives you but In my view the candidates that put themselves up as independents in this fabricated election are Skerrit enablers. I say this because by doing this you allow him to claim that he had opponents and beat them all. You cannot possibly win Grandbay Henry, so why you doing this. Who paid your $500 deposit?

He is an idiot, entitled Rasta lawyer making trouble to cover up the sheer uselessness of his existence. Bro, shut up, get a job, a life and stop making trouble. Some of us have to work for a living :).
