An airbrush artist is probably someone you won’t run into everyday or haven’t even heard of, but one young man from Morne Daniel has mastered the art and is about to showcase his work.
Gerrant Guiste will be putting some of his art work on display at the Roseau Bay Front this Saturday. He is hoping to exhibit his skills to the public and at the same time develop a clientele.
Guiste is versatile and can airbrush on a wide range of surfaces including vehicles, fiberglass, cloth, canvas, wood, metal and he can also do portraits, tribals, sceneries, cartoons of practically any image.
But what is airbrushing anyway? From a technical perspective, it is an artistic technique for using a compressed air tool to spray ink, dye, or paint onto a surface.
The musician turned artist said he developed his craft after he was inspired by another artist who he witnessed airbrushing cellphones. “As soon as I saw him doing that I said, you need to teach me how to do it,” he said.
The inspiration grew and with the help of that artist was able to refine his technique to the point where he used airbrushing to pay his way through college.
He is hoping that to build a good client base on Saturday because he plans to go back to school.
The show will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and the young artist wants to thank Auto Trade and Emile Raffoul, who he said provided material and paint for the event.
