Bannis-Roberts was recently appointed Dominica’s Ambassador to the UN

Dominica’s new Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Loreen Bannis-Roberts has said she is privileged and honoured to have been appointed to that position.

She presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week and she pledged to promote Dominica’s interest at the world body.

In a statement, she thanked Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his cabinet for entrusting her with this position.

“I feel privileged and honoured, I see this as a challenge yet another opportunity to serve my country and its citizens,” she said. “I thank God for his grace, mercies and continued blessings upon my life and to say to him, here I am Lord, use me.”

Bannis-Roberts said she looks forward to giving effective representation to the Commonwealth of Dominica, “as I feel passionate about raising awareness and advancing the cause of the Commonwealth of Dominica at the level of the United Nations.”

She also thanked her immediate family, friends and well-wishers for their continued encouragement and support thus far.

“I am so very pleased with the support of the residents of the Castle Bruce constituency and promise to always keep them close to my heart,” she stated. “To the constituency branch of the Dominica Labour Party in Castle Bruce, you are the best. You continue to inspire and uplift me to do more and I promise to live up to your expectation.”

She stated that she will be promoting and safeguarding Dominica interests at the UN.

“Through this Dominica has diplomatic relations with 100 countries and so among other things I am expecting to promote and safeguard the interest of the Commonwealth of Dominica at the United Nations in New York, attend meetings and conferences, work with other CARICOM permanent representatives with a view of developing common positions and strategies in pursuit of regional goals, vote on various resolutions and sign international conventions and agreements, and cultivate relations within the commercial community in New York, with a view of enhancing Dominica stature as a sovereign state and its prospects for economic and social development,” Bannis-Roberts indicated.

She promised to work diligently and to serve Dominica and its fellow citizens with distinction.

“We all know that with God all things are possible,” she noted.

She also had high praises for Skerrit for appointing the first woman to the position noting that he continues to give women an equal opportunity to contribute to nation building.

“It is a levelled playing field for us and the women of Dominica can rest assured that moving forward we can pursue our dreams in any field and we will be allowed to thrive and excel,” she stated. “Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit can be singled out as a champion for the advancement of the women of Dominica residing at home and abroad.”

Bannis-Roberts replaces Dr. Vince Henderson who served as UN Ambassador from March 2010.

The cabal is hard at work. Lets see her record from the Virgin Islands. What was she able to achieve? what experience is does she bring to the post of Ambassador? Is she qualified in International relations a basic requirement for the job. I guess she will do like Vince get qualified on the job. Bravo!

Speaking of academic qualifications it is a faux pas for recipients of honorary doctorates to be addressed as Dr. except at the granting university. Such honor is reserved for those with earned doctorates.

This is what Loreen Bannis is expecting to do (LOL…LOL.): “I am expecting to promote and safeguard the interest of the Commonwealth of Dominica at the United Nations in New York, attend meetings and conferences, work with other CARICOM permanent …..”

Madam Loreen Bannis, all due respect, we Dominicans expect you to Promote safeguarding principles and good governance in Dominica at our parliament. It is NOT practice there with no accountability how the hell in heavens names are you gonna do this on foreign land.
Please list those interest and safeguarding concerns yo have that you wish to promote. A parents first responsibility is to have their children disciplined at home and not at school in their care of the Principle and teachers. I suggest you return home ASAP to be disciplined and advised on the safeguarding before you make a fool of Dominica at the UN.
Get you inept PM to have regular quality meetings in Parliament and get rid of old Speaker, tone down the volume, too…

  7. The days when you looked like this picture have long passed, you are what you are in the picture in your carnival costume, ugly as they come. A leopard cannot change its color; you are what you are, right now is the picture in your Carnival Costume!

You may feel privilege to be a puppet of Skerrit; nevertheless, I doubt anyone in Dominica is impressed with you; and your bogus position. You a are a betrayer, you betrayed the trust of your village people who elected you on a UWP ballet whom you betrayed and cross the floor, i
    You are a traitor!

You have committed treason, which is the betrayal of trust, you can’t be trusted, and Dominicans would have to be out of their mind to have any sort of respect for your kind!

Ambassadors and their families always seem to live well. Almost like a passive elite society, uninvolved but privileged. Like a placebo that the headaches of society could hurt equally without…their efforts almost always go unnoticed, maybe because they’re unnoticeable..

Bannis made a very personal and practical move in switching sides after she won the people of Castle- Bruce..since then she’s been soaring higher and higher, at very stark contrasts with the layman at CB right now.. The community remains plundered and in terrible demise since then.. However Laureen keeps on smiling all the way to the UN and to the Bank..
Who really cares for the poor man just trying to scratch out a living and send his kids to school?

    • August 29, 2016

the people of Castle Bruce brought this upon themselves…………..they continue to be fooled by her smile and ……… skerritt……………..sometimes I really wonder……do poor people love themselves??????????????????????????// time will tell LBR……what evilness Lord

Congratulations Ms. Bannis on your selection. I am happy for you.

Now we know how allegedly instrumental you were when in planning, mobilizing and organizing Diapora in the VI to come down and vote. In other words it is alleged your unwritten job description was just that. Now you are at the UN do you think you will allegedly continue more political work or will you be the real UN ambassador?

Some say with more and easier access to Dominican communities in the U.S your political work will be greater. Well we will be watching. I hope despite your political leanings you can prove Dominicans at home and abroad wrong. Until such time I am remaining neutral on your top agenda and the reasons you were picked over much more qualifies persons such as Ambassador Aaron who has doctorate and has lived and worked in both Washington and New York. Despite Dr. Aaron’s politics and profile, he can be very professional when the time comes.

    We will be watching madam!!!

We continue to ask questions already knowing the answers…No, no, nothing will change..

The previous Ambassador, 2010-2016. What did he do? nothing. He is being replaced with someone with little or no experience in International Affairs. I am not a pessimist, but right now I see no light at the end of any tunnel for Dominica.

“I feel privileged and honoured, I see this as a challenge yet another opportunity to serve my country and its citizens,” she said.

Boy politicians can really lie you know. Privileged and honored? All that was required for the position was that one had to be corrupt, lover of money, and disloyal. Madam Roberts you were highly qualified in all aspects so if not you then who? You and Skerrit have a lot in common so moving you to another location where you could continue to serve him is nothing strange. One thing all eyes will be on you because it is no secret that Dominica is a friend of NG Lap Seng, as the world saw him in photo eating, toasting, and cutting cake with NG, Ashe, Lorenzo and others, two weeks before they were all arrested by the FBI except Skerrit, for fraud, money laundering, and corruption. By the way what is the honest reason for moving Dr. Vince Henderson to another location nou?

DNO, can you please inform your readers what are the requirements for becoming an ambassador? I know that one has to study to become a medical doctor/dentist/ vet. etc. Study to become an engineer, architect, teacher, nurse. But really I do not know WHAT one studies – if at all – to become an ambassador. Could you please enlighten me/us? Grateful for your response.

The same qualifications you need to become an M.P, you don’t even have to be able to read or write, according to the constitution and if you have an inferiority complex about that there is always the Punjab for a doctorate.

      August 29, 2016

What does her salary in the Virgin Islands has to do with this? She is simply getting paid for a job. I don’t think any company would pay such a huge salary if she wasn’t qualified or brought something to the table. Let’s not bring down people when they are advancing. Based on her career trajectory this is an obvious move for her.

      • Moi
        August 29, 2016

Eh be you either really stupid or modarrah. Which one is it?

When “simply getting paid for a Job’ means it is at the expense of taxpayers, questions need to be asked. I really wonder too what is her “career trajectory”? It would be useful to see her CV.
