Jolly was well known in Dominica

Prominent businessman and owner of Jolly’s Pharmacy Anderson Jolly has passed away.

DNO understands he was ill for a period of time and he died Friday morning.

Jolly’s Pharmacy is a popular pharmacy in Roseau and the businessman is well known in Dominica.

In a brief statement read on Q95 on Friday morning, Dr. Orrin Jolly described his father as a humble man.

“He was a role model when it comes to business,” the statement said. “He was a humble man who made an honest living. My father is the greatest man I ever knew.”

An employee of Jolly’s Pharmacy, Carlton Languedoc, expressed his sympathy and sadness over the passing.

In an interview on Q95 on Friday morning, Languedoc said that it is very difficult for the staff of the pharmacy to cope with the passing of their boss.

“To all of us he was definitely way more than a CEO and was the epitome of a man of character,” he stated.

Languedoc also highlighted Jolly’s optimistic nature and of how he treated his staff like his very own children.

“Mr. Jolly was the type of manager that everybody wanted to work for. If you would have done something wrong, he would call you up in a private setting and discuss it,” he expressed.

Languedoc extended thanks to the clients of Jolly’s Pharmacy and the Dominican People by extension for their support.

He gave the assurance that the work which Jolly started will be continued.

Jolly’s Pharmacy opened its doors in 1981.

Mr. Jolly was a people’s man…..What I admire most of all about Jolly’s Pharmacy is that most of the staff never left the business. Infact many who started on the floor are now pharmacist. What more evidence do we need of a businessman?
Mr. Jolly deserved a Sisserou Award for his service to Dominica. I’m not sure if one was bestowed on him.

He will be missed for one who was in the Pharmaceutical field and his expertise.
A friend telephoned me from D/ca to inform me of the sad news of his passing (in case I had not yet heard). She revived my memory that a few years ago she had a medical problem. She did visit her doctor and after paying many dollars she continued to experience the problem. I told her to go to Jolly’s Pharmacy and speak to Andy. She took my advice. She told me he suggested what she could take. She did and she got a good relief to this day. She does not experience the problem.
In addition to his family’s loss, what a great loss for Dominica and nationals whom he also helped.
May Andy’s soul rest in peace. Amen!

RIP Mr Jolly. I’m so sorry to hear of your passing. You were my first Boss since I left SMA and you taught me a lot as I tried to find myself in the world of work. You were a very humble and sincere man who respected everyone regardless of who they were or their status in life. Thanks for your contribution to Dominica particularly in the pharmaceutical sector and all the lives you touched and helped. May you find eternal rest in God’s Chambers. To the rest of the family, Ma Jolly and children you are in my thoughts and prayers and I trust you will find the strength and courage in this trying time. :(

RIP Mr. Jolly. Condolences to his family.

It feels as if Jolly’s Pharmacy/Drug Store has been around way before 1980. I guess when you are a household name it feels that way!

That is true. Jolly Pharmacy began in 1978. I am Mr. Jolly’s cousin. He started with Charles Drug Centre as a partner in 1973 and then with his brother Mr. Pelham C. Jolly of NYC bought out the partners and renamed it Jolly Pharmacy. Before that Mr. Jolly worked since the early 1960’s at The Dominica Dispensary on King George V St. which they bought and renamed it Jolly Pharmacy .

Dominica has lost a great gentleman, a great business man, a great states man. And whilst by profession he was not a politician I believe that he would have been a great minister of health. Mr Jolly had a big heart,a kind heart. When I spoke with him he was always very kind, courteous and jovial. And yes, whilst he ran a business he did not run it like many other business folks ,just for the money. He listened to his customers,he put himself in their place and was always ready to assist. And that did not affect his business to the contrary he grew.He is a true role model of what a business man or woman should be. I hope the boys continue in his footsteps..
My deepest condolences to you all…
    GOD bless….

This is sad news which I did not expect to know of and soon.
God gave us a lifespan. The end of that time, we do not know when the inevitable will come. Andy has done much with his time for the good of all. The Lord has called him home for his eternal rest. He will be greatly missed.
My very special sad and heartfelt sympathy to every member of his family. I know with your faith God is giving you the strength to cope with the passing of your beloved one.
Eternal rest grant unto Andy, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
May the soul of Andy and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!

DNO you have a bad habit of not saying the age of someone who dies. Every publication discloses the age of the departed except you. Why?

  20. November 11, 2016

We grew up not too far apart in St. Joe. You were the embodiment of class, respect and honesty. You are one of the few men in DA who stood up tall and upright. You will be sadly missed, may God have mercy on your soul and welcome you home.

My sincerest condolences goes out to the family

Mr Jolly by all means was a people’s person. He served the public, from the lowest to the highest, well. As long as he made his calling an election sure ( Prepared to meet his maker), he has nothing to worry about and his family should not be worried either. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Your family must be consolled by this.

My deepest condolences to the Jolly family, his friends and the entire Dominican community. He was such a nation builder. A very helpful, kind and humble man. I’ll surely miss him. When I think of pharmacy, the first name that always jumps at me is Jolly. He served well and made a valuable contribution to our society. He would always answer my silly questions about my prescriptions and made me feel comfortable asking them too. And when I didn’t have a prescription, his kind advice was always on point – take this one, you should feel better in 2/3 days. Oh how I trusted him with my meds!! He shall be forever in my heart. To the children, celebrate his life – your dad leaves a wonderful legacy of love, care and community service. Be strong for mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

R.I.P. Truely a man of integrity, a humble man, truely what legends are made of, it refreshing that not one negative thing can be said about this humble servant. Condolences to his family, friends, Customers, and the likes. My hope is the family will find comfort and faith that the model and memories will continue to live with the Whole World. They seldom come like him any more. The reality is we all have an appointment with Death. like it or not. Gone but never to be forgotton.

Words cannot comprehend the lost of a great and true Dominican. I had the pleasure of interacting or rather getting good service from Mr. Jolly while on a visit to Dominica. I went to his Pharmacy and he was so humble and willing to assist in any way possible. I was touched by his humbleness. Such a great man.

Awww…Mr. Jolly died? He would bring you into his little side office so you can tell him what is wrong with you in confidence. It felt like you are at an actual Dr. and then he would say, “I’d recommend you use……” One just had faith and confidence that he was recommending something that will actually work for you. He will truly be missed by his staff and the public in general… RIP Mr. Jolly.
