Wyatt was said to be well-loved in the Calibishie area

The community of Calibishie will be hosting an event on Friday, January 22, to honour Rose Wyatt, who was allegedly murdered on Sunday 17.

The event is expected to take place at Calibishie Market area from 2:30 pm and will be chaired by Ali Matthew.

Students will sing songs in celebration of her life and the local community will share memories of Wyatt, who was said to be a well-loved figure in the area.

The Bureau of Gender Affairs and Dominica National Council of Women have been invited to discuss the issues around violence and ensuring justice for victims of violence.

Organizers of the event say red flowers are welcomed to adorn the stage and the event will end with a march to the Calibishie Police Station.

Those who wish to attend are encouraged to wear orange, the colour designated by the UN’s UNiTE campaign to symbolise a brighter future without violence.

Organizers are also asking members of the public to share the following hashtags, #womenslivesmatter #JusticeforRose #KeepDominicaSafe, as a sign of support.

Wyatt’s body was found last Sunday lying in a footpath which leads to Hodges Beach in an area between Calibishie and Woodfordhill.

The 51-year-old hotelier, originally from Brazil, was the owner of Sunrise Gardens, located about two kilometers from Calibishie.

A teenager from Woodfordhill has been charged with murder in connection with her death.

We were absolutely horrified to hear such devastating news. Gary and Rose were such a lovely couple, they only moved to Dominica from the UK less than a year ago. It offers some comfort that Rose’s life has been celebrated by the Calibishie community, despite having only lived on the island for such a brief time. We are very sad we are unable to attend Rose’s funeral tomorrow in order to offer Gary some family support. However, we are heartened to hear he has made some wonderful friends, and that they have been fantastically supportive. For that, we are extremely grateful. Sending our love and best wishes to Gary, family members and his/their friends.

A big thank you to the organisers of the event to honour Rose, and also to the people of Calibishie. She was a good kind person and it is comforting to know that she was as well-liked in Dominica as she was back here in England. Our thoughts are with you.

We should take crimes committed against tourist more seriously. We can do this by increasing the penalties and , naming and shaming the perpetrators . Place their names and pictures on all available media for three weeks in a row , once they are properly tried and convicted.

Come on DNO “who was allegedly murdered on Sunday 17” and in the same piece “A teenager from Woodfordhill has been charged with murder in connection with her death”. Allegedly Murdered?

ADMIN: Even if someone is charged with a crime, it remains “alleged” until the person is proven guilty by a court of law.

I could be wrong but DNO she was murdered or a homicide took place so that is not alleged. What is alleged is that the 17 year-old did it. So Natari is right to question the format in the article.

If the coroner ruled her death a homicide then there is no “alleged” there. But DNO is correct, the teenager is innocent until proven otherwise.

If I was a leader of my country my law would be to cut off murderers two hands and one foot and let you go free for the others to see.If you rape castrate you cut off your fingers and one foot.If you steal there is a chance you can change just fine and jail time.If you sell cocaine we have to make you take it and lock you up.There must be a high level of peace when we show these criminals we are not playing when they commit these crimes the laws are too soft.

Think of this. Let it be known, those who harm and murder residents and visitors are doing their nation and nationals a grave injustice, not to mention themselves. If caught, they should bear the consequences of their action, according to their crime. In other words, the punishment should fit the crime.
Murderers and rapists who commit atrocious crimes against children and senior citizens of all should never be granted bail.
Criminals are a menace to society. No one should have to live in fear of them. They want a free and happy life then they should consider according their fellow people the same and live the Golden Rule – Matthew 7:12.
This is when I would endorse a protest, a rally but a peaceful one that certain Laws of Dominica be changed and criminals receive their due sentence and punishment from the Court of Justice.
Government and Police authority, if in the long run you want a practically crime-free Dominica, also institute a rehabilitation process for criminals.

it is very sad about what happen to rose and it is also sad to hear who allegedly did the murder . we have to be very careful now more than ever before because crime is a symptom . it is more than law and order.

She looks like a nice person. It hurts to know she was murdered and by a teenager. She had a bright future ahead of her and he snuffed out her life.
At this stage, it does not really matter but I wonder approximately how many hours her body could have been lying in the path before she was found. Speculating, if she was found sooner and received medical care her life could have been saved.
Imagine, a teenager? He has not commenced living in the true sense of the word and he has already murdered an adult. For what? What is his reason for killing her?
At his age he projected that he has no respect for a person, a woman and for a life. He has to be a radical to do something like that.
He obviously did not go to church on Sunday. I would be surprised if he did. He must be one, at his young age who ceased going. If he was a church-going teenager, prayed and performed good works, in all probability, he would not have, as much as, considered doing what he did.

Imagine how his family feels about what he did. This is an idle teenager who is under the .yolk of Satan. It is what the enemy wants for youths, to contaminate their minds and turn them into bad people. He wants their souls too, for no good, in his eternal cauldron of everlasting fire.
Teach the children well. Discipline and train them to love; not hate and to perform good works; not evil.
Ignore God; pay Him no mind, do not worship Him and do not pray. This can make the human mind full of hatred and evil works which may continue throughout life to death. Such people are in a mortally and spiritually bad shape and going down slippery slopes. Since he committed murder, he appears to be already on it, the broad road.
I can only hope he is rehabilitated and in future, never do something as this. Otherwise his life will be a wasted one.

Such a beautiful lady. What manner of man hurts a woman like that?! I hope he is locked away for life! He should be tried as an adult! Hope the police collect good evidence. Too many times we all know the killers in Dominica and they end up walking free because of ‘lack of evidence’.

Good to see the people of Calibishie united against the sea of random violence which is threatening to sink our once proud and peaceful island. There is now a savage undercurrent in the ghetto which is spilling out into the middle class areas. Life has no value in the getto. And this attitude is spillong out to the high class neighbhorhoods. Even the criminal lawyers are getting depressed at the high workload hitting their desks and the shear stupidity of the extreme violence which is now routine in the parts of Dominica where tourists dont go…It is only a matter of time before this cancer will impact all layers of society from the Paros on the street to the Astaphan at the top…people must rise up to confront these criminals now. Please do not relay on the govenment to help. you are on your own in DA. Rise up and take proactive action against these vermin before they even think of doing any criminal act against your community

None of the above matters if the criminals are put back on the streets. I think that the ONLY way to MINIMIZE CRIME is to keep the CRIMINALS LOCKED UP.
