Calibishie to launch reunion event

The Calibishie community is on Sunday (June 10) launching its reunion event.

Calibishie Reunion 2012 has been scheduled for July 8-15, under the theme “Uniting Our Community, let’s make it a Reality”.

Ahead of the actual event the Calibishie Reunion Committee and the village council there have planned a roadshow and official launch for Sunday.

The organisers say officials expected to address the launch include parliamentary representative Matthew Walter, Tourism Minister Ian Douglas and Community Development Minister Gloria Shillingford.

The Calibishie Reunion Song is expected to feature prominently during the launching of the event.

An “all night Blocco” is expected to help raise funds for the Calibishie Reunion.

100’s of Calibishians in the Diaspora and Booked and scheduled to flood into the village next month. That will equate to 100″ of thousands of Dollars into our economy.

Same with Bense and Later Possie.

To all the haters, seat back, and watch Calibishie lead the way!
All we ask is that our Police Step up to the plate. ANd if our Govt are really interested in Tourism they would improve our Police force on the North.

As someone who has a house and land in the Calibishie area since 1999 and been a victim of a house invasion and attack on my wife and seen many neighbours robbed and attacked. I am not so sure about how great things are in the area. I know many who are working hard for the reunion, and they are to be commended, but I see a police force that does not seem to care . . all talk and no action. I see a community who seems to close in and protect those who do these crimes. I also see a for sale sign on my property.

I do not agree with all you are saying. Each community has a few “bad apples” but one can’t judge the entire village on that. I really hope that going forward the community will work hard to remove these few “bad apples” and blow the whistle on them.
As far as the police is concerned, I have always been saying that the problem lies there. Lazy, inapt, ill equipped and no work moral. Having said that, since the same applies to the Chief of Police – what more can you expect. As far as the PM is concerned, he should realise the potential of Calibishie and it’s surrounding area. Invest in this ‘tourism hotspot’ in the North, do not only talk your talk because here you have a ‘raw Diamond’ that with a l bit of polishing could really sparkle. Instead you and your Government leave the place to it’s own devices. Not one of your election promises made to the community of Calibishie and surrounding area has come true. Shame on you, your Ministers and Parl. Representatives!!!

Calibishie, and indeed all of over Dominica, must be safe for both locals and tourist alike. But we should be careful in spreading bad news about our local communities over the internet. I live in the ROSEAU VALLEY. I had not been in the Calibishie area in a while. In fact, I would normally drive through the village without visiting any of the hotels, lodges or guest houses in the area. Interestingly, it was while on a seminar in Miami, Florida that I met a Caucasian family who had vacationed at a hotel in Calibishie. They showed me their family pictures- having fun on a brownish/whitish sandy beach in Calibishie. They had this glow on their faces as they recount the wonderful time that they had in Dominica. They were happy to talk to whoever would listen as they described the wonderful time that they had in Calibishie. They spoke of the local foods they were introduced to and even remembered the names of the people who served on them at the Hotel. I was beaming with national pride as they spoke of the hospitality of our people and how beautiful the place was.

Word of caution: The couple learned of Calibishie by conducting an internet search. They desired a vacation in a quiet natural environment. They were impressed with Calibishie from their internet search. . Had they read too many negative stories about Calibishie or Dominica they would have changed their minds.

I wish Calibishie the very best in its re-union efforts.

Calibishie is and will continue to be a safe place for tourist. If you do some research, the criminal acts are not done by the villagers of Calibishie. Calibishie people are the most peaceful and welcoming people you could come across. And just so you know…the COMMUNITY IS UNITED!TONKS

If you dont have anything good to say to upliftment then just shut up.Calibishie is one of the coolest, beautiful villages in D/CA.I am not from this village but whenever I am driving through I always stop just to chill out by the restaurants close to the sea.Dont hate on a village because of some scumbags that pass by looking for vunerable individuals to harass. These people from Calibishie are very warm people…not to mention good-looking(just saying :-D ).
