The body of former Finance Minister in the Patrick John led government Captain Victor .A.J. Riviere was laid to rest at the Roseau Roman Catholic Cemetery after he was accorded an official funeral by the Government of Dominica on December 7, 2016 at the Cathedral Chapel in Roseau.

“Captain Vic,” as he was more popularly known, died on November 18, 2016 in St. Lucia where he was undergoing medical treatment.

The funeral was attended by President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin and his wife, members of Cabinet and also the opposition led by Opposition Leader Lennox Linton. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was expected to attend but was not present since he was at another funeral in Pointe Michel.

In his homily, Bishop of Roseau Gabriel Malzaire, who was the main celebrant, called on the faithful to ponder how they will want to remember the late Vic Riviere.

“The question therefore, is how Vic will be remembered…I am sure that you have decided on that as to how you want to remember him. As Captain, economist, politician or as the one who started many, many important projects in Dominica,” Bishop Malzaire said.

He continued, “What would be his legacy? But I ask you how you would like to be remembered. We have an opportunity now at this moment to decide for ourselves what will the rest of our lives will be.”

Using a quote from St. Benedict to his Monks which said “Think of your death every day and the quality of your life here on earth will be different and more wholesome,” Bishop Malzaire told those present to ponder on it as they continue on life’s journey.

If true it would confirm that mr. Rivierre attained his rank of Captain in Dominica. There is no record of an R.A.F. Capt. Victor Avondale Joseph Rivierre on the data base of the National Archives in the U.K. (freely available to the general public on-line).

The RAF has never had the rank of Captain.

Vic was promoted to Lt. Col. by Col Patrick John by virtue of his powers under the Dominica Defence Regulations. This happened shortly before the removal of Col. John.

It appears, Castro, an avowed atheist who was memorialized in church by the government, seems to have had more people attend his memorial than those who attended Captain’s funeral based on the pictures. How disconcerting for a man whose vision led to the creation of the National Bank and the pegging of the EC $ to the US$?

Vic must be turning in his grave to be sent home by Charles Savarin .
This is the man who attacked the labour party as a mission of his life ..The man who fought EO Leblanc and caused his early retirement
The man who orchestrated and organized the destruction OF THE Patrick John Administration .The man who used the CSA as a weapon of war at all Labour Administrations until cleverly being brought in as the LEADER of the Freedom Party in the 2000 Douglas Coalition ,placed a RED shirt spoke on a labour platform and was given a PRESIDENCY by the prime Minister of a labour Party who completely ignored the history of the man whilst there were so many others who were less self serving and patriotic available .
So Vic who was at war with SAVARIN was thankfully dead that this man ceremoniously attended his funeral
At least Savarin could have found the decency to claim sick and allow someone else to act ..was it sheer arrogance or excessive morbid desire to shame true Labour.

God my friend will have the last laugh. Continue with you all stupidness and hypocrisy and insults. The PM deliberately choose not to attend an official State funeral that his cabsec helped organized. But revenge is mine sayeth the Lord. So he for sure will have the last laugh.
