Klass Money hasn’t returned to Dominica for 17 years

Dominican rap artiste based in Miami, Jefferson “Klass Money” Scotland said he is impressed with the level of development he has seen in Dominica after being away for 17 years.

The rapper, who was born in River Street, Roseau but moved to Wallhouse at a young age is presently on the island to stage a rap concert at the Ice Box in Roseau, on Saturday, May, 21st 2016.

“The country is beautiful…it is prettier than I remembered it to tell you the truth. I know Dominica was pretty but I guess I forgot how pretty it was…I can’t believe I stayed away that long,” he said during a visit to the offices of Dominica News Online (DNO) on Thursday. “In terms of development, the roads are better. I remember the roads being worse.”

He added, “I left at a young age so I wasn’t really judging the country’s development stages, now I get a chance look at it from an adult level, it’s nice.”

Klass Money promised the public a show to remember.

“It’s going to be great entertainment, we are going to entertain the public, it’s going to be a good party, it’s going to be vibe, it’s going to be different,” he stated. “This is really like the first rap show ever in Dominica. We are about to make history with that event. It’s going to be different from the other shows.”

Klass Money foresees great things for himself in the future.

“In the future, I want to see myself with a Platinum Album with a major record deal. I have signed two independent record deals so far, so hopefully we can get a universal, Warner Brothers or Atlantic involved…,”he stated.

Among his major projects include five different mixed tape projects, a total of 97 YouTube videos and he has been featured in several publications; including Hype Magazine.

He was offered a five-year recording deal with ReddCity Music Group in 2015, which is actually the second time Klass Money has managed to land a deal; his first was in 2009 with Midwest Flawless Entertainment in Missouri.

As part of the upcoming event, a competition has also been launched where local artistes will get a chance to perform on stage with the rapper. The top three artistes will also get a feature from Klass Money.

Klass Money’s achievements stem from various music videos, including a catalog accumulating over a million hits on YouTube, tens of thousands of social media followers and tons of digital sales.

The show will begin from 9:00pm and will be hosted by “Star Boi”.

Music will be available by DJ Smoove, Major Mystic and DJ Median.

Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased locally at Kairi FM or $35 at the gate

Sometimes we are distracted by words and how people chose to express themselves. So, if you are 17 years older than you were, the fact is that you have grown, you have changed, you are different in certain ways – so is Dominica. It has grown, it has changed, it is different. This is not the same as saying that it is better, or that it has matured, or that it has progressed. Two completely different opinions.
Truth is Dominica has changed, it has grown – it now has facial hair, its voice is now more of an adult, it has many more children – but, it is also true, that it is still economically and developementally, an infant. Still making the same silly mistakes as before. Some of its children refuse to grow up, and put away childish things, and so the country itself has remained stagnant, in many ways.

the guy stayed away for 17 years, he came back he saw new roads, new bridge, schools, stadium. of course its development, cause that’s not the way he remembered it. he remember it with old roads in certain places, there was no back roads yet to the hospital. the roads living out of town to trfalgar and them other places was a mess. now d man driving nice on the roads for him it is. so obviously it’s automatically development in his eyes, for we it’s nothing much because we live there.

I am very glad for Jeff and I wish him success in his music business. I also think that he should remain in music since he has shown that he does not have a good sense of comparisons. I mean you said that Da looks better, but I would like to tell you as compared to what?? I know that you do not want to put down the land but also you should speak to the local folks, and get their input on this vibes.

it just show the level of disconnect the diaspora really has with Dominica. cause many of the foreigners you ask will say the same thing but it’s staying for 6 months to really know whats up. We need the music to better our country so let’s all go out and support the young man on his musical endeavours cause it only takes one to slide up in the industry.

Simple explanation though I made not be politically affiliated
It’s is the people who votes, and there is an obvious need for improvement, I must feel bad for the people because they are the ones in need.
Understand before taking out of context it was meant to be degrading.
My apologies if I offended any one but the truth is after 35 years I did not see any improvement

After 35 years its worse you mean after Patrick John almost sold the country and a 19 year old loss his life defending his rights . After the 23 and 47 days strike that had Dominican people standing for ration its worse. After hurricane David strike and Hal of the country did not have electricity, its worse. 35 years when a selected few had access to higher education it’s worse. Please explain your ” worse” because i don’t understand. Cause I too remember Dominica 35 year ago and if it worse today well then, either you had no idea of what was happening or you were in denial.

So allu patriotic Dominicans discouraging people from praising allu country? Allu really wicked for allu own self.
That allu will tell people when allu travel and people ask about your country? Even if is me alone, I will continue to praise and invite people to see the beauty of my country. Wicked people.

  15. May 20, 2016

Young man with all my respect to you,it is normal that you see it as a beautiful country because it is,rivers, lakes, beaches that are accessible, nice sun shine ,you are less likely to get a bullet and a lot of concrete houses..Nonetheless ,stay there ,stop you music ,just saying ,then decide to live there ,I’m certain that you will see that there isn’t any thing new to capture the youths mind in order to progress in the future. My home village in the south was quite developed more than 20 years ago ,almost every parent had a job while their kids are at school, now kids are at school and 95% of the parents are home ,relying on family abroad ,all political party members were friends both leading party and opposition, now they are like ISIS and the west, only blood which is not pouring yet…Natural disasters don’t have any thing to do with the condition of Dominica, because there were more lives and properties lost for hurricane David and Dominica was still better than now.

  16. May 20, 2016

Now..you can tell that a government is desperate and in trouble when a rapper of all persons have to come to defend it’s economic and development policies.. Really boss? Where in Miami you live? In the bushy uninhabited area? Sure not the areas that I roam. You came in on a ferry? You did not land at the airport? and you did not use the road from the airport to roseau. Oh, and lets see how many CDs you sell given that the people are so poor they are struggling to meet their basic needs.

You all are typical UWP haters ….Some of the comments here are comments from the opposition side……It looks like it hurts you all to read that someone find that the country have developed ….He do not have to live on the island to see the difference from when he left a few years ago. …Some of you will never see the development because you all are so blinded by politics …..I very heard people who is not even from Dominica says this is the best that they have seen Dominica compared to when they used to visit many years ago….Dominicans give jack his Jacket whether you anti Government or not….right is right wrong is wrong.

I swear jah know it have a lot when I tell you a lot a lot of hypocrite, immature, nonsupportive Dominicans eh ……….. Heavenly father forgive some of they’re selfish ways who only live to criticize others for working hard to achieve they’re dreams as some of you seat down at allu home and throwing immature talk…… So this guy went to the state to achieve a major career in music and still doing it in the process… Now he comes back home after how much years to make a history and am impact in his country he sees that certain things in the country has change in a bless and unique way since he been gone and he is now giving great reviews to the outside about how his change nicely….. The best thing some of you fine to say is “oh open your eyes you will see the real country blah blah blah?!?!?” No wonder the country will never reach nowhere in nothing cause immature people are ungrateful and nonsupportive of your own kind allu not even acknowledging the guys aim on coming…

  23. The country is beautiful…it is prettier than I remembered it to tell you the truth. I know Dominica was pretty but I guess I forgot how pretty it was—News article
Jefferson, my friend, you did not forget;, you did not notice, to appreciate those blessed gift from God, to our Dominica, just like me. If I had never left Dominica I would probably thinking by the same negative and empty mind like those here who are contending against your observation–but based on experience, you know that you are right on.

I left Dominica in 1974, I went back in 1979, because of Hurricane David, and after that it took me 30 years to return because of the way my home people were crying down our homeland I thought that I could go to Dominica–not even fora four weeks vacation– if I did not have at least $50 000.00 in my purse–that is to tell you how bleak our locals are presenting Dominica to the outside world –what a sorry affair!

    • Nonetheless I decided to defy the negative reports, and in 2008 I spent 6 weeks in Dominica, after 30 years of living in Toronto, Canada–30 years made me a real Canadian, and yet there is nothing that I can do in Toronto that I could not do in Dominica–if I had a choice

I lost my purse which contained my the travelling documents among other important identifications. After searching at a few places, I tried Whitchurch–and there my purse was sitting on the self of the management office–I had more than $1000.00 EC +Canadian Currency–but whoever picked it up didn’t take anything–maybe that happened by God’s Grace, but it is all the same He worked through someone else for my sake.

So I believe that most of those persons, who keep crying down our homeland, are too lazy to help through its development, or they left home when they could appreciate what they had, and today they have no idea that Dominica has changed–that too is a sorry affair!

      • My decision now is to move back to my Dominica in a sort time from now–God’s will be done. There is no negative things that people can speak against Dominica which will faze me.

Many of those who live outside of Dominica are speaking black and gloomy about their home because they need an excuse for being stuck wherever they are now –for all sorts of reasons.

I hope that your performance this weekend will be fruitful–all in all!

:?: I think it would have served you better, had you shut your mouth! You left the island at a time when you didn’t understand anything, for you to come back after such a long absence, what views are you able to express? With time, things will always evolved,a few surfaced roads which you may have left rugged will obviously look better. The island has always been naturally beautiful, which is by no means the work of man although man can enhance certain aspects of nature.Young man,my advice to you is to stay on the island for a while until you feel you can’t stay anymore, then you’ll know what we are talking about. You wouldn’t stay anyway, cause the glamour of your rap will not be sustained by staying.

DNO is Klass Money going to be here for 11 years or has he returned after 11 years? Just Asking.

Also, after 11 years you came back and see nothing has changed, no development, then, Dominicans are really foolish like me to be voting in the same party over and over again. Just saying.

We really do not know the gem we have that is Dominica, do we? For the majority of people who write on DNO they sound as if Dominica is the worst place of earth. How sad.

People the grass is not greener on the other side, no matter what others may try to make you believe. What is your is yours and Dominica belongs to all of us.

I read somewhere where a Haitian is praising, thanking and happy to be in Dominica, doing so well for himself. And I read the postings here and wonder what is the problem with us as a people.

Klass Money, I know your father Jefferson grew up on River Bank. Ma Scotland is his mother and he have a paro brother Ian wandering around Roseau.

However, don’t let the Goodwill/Roseau link road aka back road fool you.

Real development comes with exportation of goods and services and money in people’s pockets. You’re just here for a short time. Stay for 6-12 months and try making it in Dominica on your rapping skills only and you will see how Dominica ‘nice’.

After 10 years of course things would look different. What you seeing is similar to oprah Winfrey with make up when she on tv. What you need to see is beyond the makeup when she wake up in the morning. Ok oprah lovers don’t hunt me!!! She at least have her own miney. Them roads is pure Chinese masquera. None of it was from Dominican hands, or the result of Dominican growth and productivity. That my friend is makeup that hide the ugliness. We have a misconception of what is development. If it is not of the people, by the people, for the people, then it is facade.
