To give Anthony Astaphan this award is shameful. Yes he is a good lawyer and has worked successfully for Roosevelt Skerrit. But what has he done for the Commonwealth of Dominica? Not the Dominica Labour Party. The Party and Dominica are separate. We seem to be forgetting that. I fear that we are watering down our highest awards for political favor. That is a very bad thing that we are doing. If Roosevelt Skerrit wants to reward him for getting him off from all the scandals fine! But don’t use our awards to do this. Disgraceful! Distasteful!!

Have Dominicans been informed as to what are the criteria for receiving national awards?

The entire system seems to have fallen into disarray with persons being awarded and rewarded for what can be perceived as loyalty to the Government of the Day or more specifically to the Head of Government of the Day.

Once upon a time, such national awards were bestowed upon persons who contributed to national development far above and beyond the call of duty. That meant they were not paid to do their job but selflessly gave of their time without seeking pay in cash or kind. When civil servants, local, regional or international or private sector persons especially Consultants are paid handsomely for jobs they are recruited to do,,what is the logic for giving them national awards.

The entire process seems to have become immersed in partisan politics and the system, sadly, has lost its true value and meaning.

I am listening to the cockroaches, mosquitoes and cacadors support a man who gave our young girls from St. Joe dog food and then boasted about it. This is a man who stands publicly accused of defrauding the NCB of 80K. This is a man caught lying on too many occasions. This is a man who does not pro bono work, he does not come to our funerals, he doesn’t even live in DA. He is the creator of hate in Dominica. He gets all government cases not because he is good but because he is Skerrit puppetmaster. What has he done for DA. he has benefited too much from our treasury. What has he done for DA?

Congrats to all the Comrades who will be receiving Dominica’s recognition for their devotion and contribution to Country. Dr. Carissa Etienne, a very heartfelt congratulations to you as you continue to serve our Island-Nation with pride and dignity in the field of Medicine. Comrade Tony Astaphan, you are well deserving of your honors and warm congratulations from ALL at the blessed Dominica Labour Party are in order. Congratulations to everyone else due to receive an award. Your unflinching loyalty and service to Country has been recognized. Now, to the sour grapes who choose to gripe about Mr. Astaphan’s award of the country’s second highest honor, let me assure you that it is well deserved. Mr. Astaphan has served this Country with distinction for many years. He is a top notch Attorney, commonly known as one of the best on Island. Athough, not one to toot his own horn, Mr. Astaphan has been involved in may philanthropist and charitable organizations. Don’t judge him!

It is not the award . It is some Dominicans do no like their fellow men to succeed. Astaphan has become the nost successful lawyer in Domonica. His service is being saught by overseas people. We should be proud that a son of the soil is going international. He now have celebrity status. He has never lost a case. He has done nothing wrong to deserve such hatred. CONGRATULATIONS Tony. When Lennox exposed this guys it was the same Tony who said not true, when the evidence came running their faces they said wil be repaid on 2 weeks, it took them 6months to gather te money to repay.
To this day I believe it is our own money from the treasury that paid back.

Some people very happy with bin bobol money.

Was it not a ministers brother who did the purchasing n Pennsylvania???

      Who stole our money. ???

Please ask Ton to represent us to find that money and I will consider him for an award…

Tony Astaphan- is a Dominican , lighten up , his family employes more people than any other families in Dominica. You people should concentrate on job creation and stop the talking creating nothing. In 70 yrs since the British left you all as Black people have created very little in your life time. Stop the nonsence and do the thinking , and get to work.

These things are getting ridiculous now. What are we awarding Tony Astaphans for again, can somebody please remind me? I am not sure if we Dominica are blind or flat our stupid that we cannot see what is going on around us. The PM is awarding a man and most of us Dominican don’t have a clue what he is being awarded for. The PM and his inner circle maybe the only ones who knows what the award is for. The sad thing is Dominicans are going to go there to salute those things.

Lets talk something serious here instead of the usual political nonsense…….Admin please correct me If I am wrong……. The Dominica Award of Honor (DAH) has always been bestowed on persons who have been appointed Head of State…..If this is true……could it be that the government may be considering this amazing daughter of the soil to be our next and first woman head of state??? I for one would be thrilled if that is so…….

Thats a shame and Tony be an honourable gentleman and decline the acceptance this award.

Honestly speaking, what has Toni Done for Dominica -not the pm and labour?
Why did the pm not just award the whole of Dominica for bravery?
Such moves are signs of a man who has no more ideas …….

This is not fair to Dr. Etienne, who is universally respected in Dominica , and beyond. Making her appear in the same awards ceremony with a controversial, an universally unpopular figure like Anthony Astaphan puts her in an unenviable, spot. What does she do? Gracefully decline or be diplomatic and accept, thereby giving credence mr. Astaphan. Mr. Skerrit should not have put Dr. Etienne before such an impossible choice. Maybe it his “reward” for her being so up front,, transparent and outspoken during her last visit?
