Dr. Thomson Fontaine gets top economic job in South Sudan

Dr. Fontaine’s contract is for one year

Former IMF economist and Senator in the Parliament of Dominica, Dr. Thomson Fontaine has been appointed Senior Economic and International Policy Adviser to the government of South Sudan, Africa.

He told DNO that the contract will be for one year and he will be responsible for offering policy advice to the transitional government, assisting in the organization of resources of the state, and importantly, establishing an economic and financial management policy for the country, which engages key stakeholders including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and the African Development Bank (ADB).

“I will be serving as the primary liaison of the Transition Government of National Unity basically providing them with economic policy advice in that area and contribute to different working papers and policy discussions on the future of South Sudan,” he said.

Fontaine said he was contacted by the United Kingdom’s government, who is sponsoring the job, and had to go through a three-stage interviewing process that assessed his qualifications and he was ultimately selected as the successful candidate.

Dr. Fontaine said he will be moving to South Sudan.

“I will be moving to South Sudan but the way it is organized, I will do two months in country and three weeks breather where I will come back to Dominica,” he stated.

When asked of the future of his status as a Senator considering the new appointment, Fontaine said that he would only resign if the new job prevents him from attending parliament.

“I don’t see a problem with it, but if it becomes an issue where I am not able to attend parliament, then I will probably have to resign. But for now, I am going to maintain that position,” Fontaine remarked.

The Republic of South Sudan is considered the world’s newest nation after gaining independence from Sudan in 2011.

Eat your heart out Disciple Roosevelt and as for that Disciple Thomas……….??? Well, words fail me. I suppose Dr. Thomson is one of those he asked his God to pray for? Father, forgive your servant Thomas because he does not know what he is doing. but you know Father, prophets are not recognised in their own country and this proves it once again. No wonder the Pop have so many troubles in his own church.

May God continue bless you abundantly sir! May your light continue to shine before men especially those in our country who continue to denigrate you for no reason other than pure jealousy. CONGRATULATIONS in order!!

I sincerely hope that this will resonate with the good folks of the Grand Fond constituency who should take this as their mantra and see the need to have you represent them in our parliament. May the Punjabe Doctor from Enbar, Vielle Case and Attorney Penguin take this as a lesson and slap in his face when compared to the purchased doctorate he carries as a badge of honor. Continue to be SMA and Dominica proud! sir. You have made all SMARITANS proud!

I get it. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. In our time of need, they came through and provided us with assistance. Given the changing economic and political situation in Venezuela right now and not knowing what the foreseeable future holds for this country, isn’t it wise for Dominica to change its focus and work on being more self-sustainable? We have enough land available to feed ourselves and an abundance of fish to go with it. Why are we focusing on being beggars, instead of fueling our independence and self-sustainability?

thomson has the knowledge, qualifications and expertise to help a developing nation with 12 million people while we denigrate and belittle him for a man who went to india for a weekend and came back with a doctorate. he has failed every aspect of our economy’s development, rampant corruption and sales of diplomatic missions to criminals, hand outs to the less fortunate in return for a GODLIKE praise… while the only source of income is sale of passports….

Skeritt always talks about to much politics in Dominica, but he is at the top of the list. Why hasn’t he or his government extend congratulations to Dr. Fontaine. What we will hear on Saturday on the next level show is exactly what is already being posted on face book by laborites. According to them, he is accusing Skeritt of being corrupted, but he accepted a job to work with the most corrupted government in Africa. If you don’t believe me, go to Delvin Castro’s face book, you will also see a picture of Skeritt large and in charge, as though, he owns this face book page. Maybe, he is responsible for that page.

In other words, teach South Sudan how to NOT be like Dominica.

This speaks volumes. The British are so disgusted with the state of affairs in Dominica that they want to use his experience to prevent South Sudan from being like Dominica.

Teach them that they don’t have to sell passports to survive.

I thought Fontaine had resigned his job at the IMF to come home to help Dominica. According to Fontaine the Dominican economy is collapsing, so why is he leaving now when his party might be on the verge of victory? Or is it that things are not all what they seem to be? Just asking?

Oh my God! There are some Black people in a Caribbean island called Dominica who believe that it is degrading, desperate, beneath them, and unbecoming for a internationally recognised Black economist to go and work in a country where Black Africans of South Sudan are suffering at the hands of the Arab North Sudan! You people make me sick with your mental slavery complex! You people are doomed to failure!
Congratulations Dr Fontaine, you have experience working where your talents are most needed – you helped to settle the economy of Afghanistan after the Taliban and now you take up the challenge to serve in South Sudan where all the international efforts towards development are most needed in Africa today. Here is the harsh reality of our Black people in South Sudan http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-africa-39532312/civilians-are-being-slaughtered

Even though we did not agree politically I wish Fontaine the very best in his endeavor. At some point in life somebody has to look out for his or her own betterment. Fontaine may have come to the realization that his political ambition in Dominica is being suppressed by the inept leadership skills of Linton. He may have decided that this was the perfect opportunity to get away from Linton and to redeem himself in the eyes of his family. By his association with Linton who is not a college graduate, he has brought his character into question.

What I do have to state, I am not impressed and I do not envy Fontaine one bit. He has a few libel cases coming up. This is one way of evading them. Is he trying to obtain diplomatic status free of prosecution? I doubt he will escape. Based on that, he should not be allowed to leave the island.

Go and continue to be miserable. I will sincerely pray for you because you are not helping yourself and the country you say you love. You don’t have to like or love Dr. Fontaine but can’t you at least congratulate yhim as a fellow Dominican?

Dr. Fontaine is a role model for young Dominicans. The lesson is that you can be born in a small village like Grand Fond and be recognized and sought after internationallly. However this can only be achieved through hard work, determination and vision. Not with sewo, laziness and corruption. Dr. Fontaine is the real leader and shining example in Dominica, not the Punjab doctor who has disgraced our country. Long live Dr. Fontaine. Good luck. You have made Dominica proud.

Boy, you sounding bitter. Like you doing something better with yourself or what?

Dr Fontaine’s title is real – not a gesture or a gimmick title. His achievement is something for Dominicans to be proud of rather than embarassed by. South Sudan is a war zone and you don’t send a fool to go over there as an advisor. To fill such a role it takes someone of standing with the respect of his colleagues, peers and industry – not a self indulgent fraudulent laughing stock.

I don’t know the man but he has restored my pride as a Dominican – something I feel ashamed to say when Skerritt is mentioned. Nuff said

Unless we recognize talent and most of all appreciate talent, our beloved Island will never develop. Let us stop the hatred and wish others well. We have a nation to build. I would like some of the haters to listen to themselves and see how they are blinded by ignorance. Those who serve in the interest of fostering a better nation must be commended. Tell me how many of the present administration who are humble and independent minded. None of the ministers have the acumen of leadership. Congratulation to Dr. Fontaine ! go and do your best and serve with honor. Your job is esoteric and those smattering minds will see your role as askance but let them ruminate about your brilliance.

The quote, “A Prophet has no honor in his Country”, is demonstrated here by some of the comments made in this chat room. Regardless of your political affiliation, but when one of our own is recognized for his astute academic ability, the least we can do is wish him well. At least, he did not pay $75,000 U.S for his doctorate unlike the other so-called doctor.

Boss which academic qualification one ever achieves that he or she does not pay for? Was everything free ? Even after getting a scholarship your are met with other expenses; by the way at least $75,000 was spent but the so-called doctor did not steal anyone money to pay for his doctorate unlike your BUDDY who stole others money and land Hope before he leaves he pays ALL THE FARMERS that he owes for their produces he took from them.

      • zeb

“Just Passing through” the only way one can feel happy for him is if they do not like him, do you have the slightest clue of what is going on in South Sudan? the government of South Sudan is literally scared to govern. No one wants to go to South Sudan, no one, that’s why this position is open, it is equivalent to him getting a job in Syria.

      • Jon Jones

I was a supporter of the Baroness as I thought better of her than she ultimately proved to be. However, once incumbent she showed she was no different to Skerritt’s usual type of crony. Her very partizan ‘suck salt’ comments really lowered her standing then her arrogance and overspending meant the UK Govt had to declare no confidence in her leadership. Despite her talk what has she achieved for Dominica? Nada…not a role model for Dominicans to be proud of either

And this is the man Dominicans rejected. He was even denied an elected seat in the Parliament. Instead, a ‘ ”nobody” was put in the Parliament. If the British with their very high standards can engage Dr. Fontaine for a very demanding role, why can’t Dominicans? Is it that we feel threatened by talent, jealous of the proven abilities of others, like our lowly socio-economic position and prefer to be treated as beggars by those who govern us? The recruitment for the position in South Sudan was very competitive, and a humble and hard-working man from Grand Fond with goodness in his heart for his country of Dominica was chosen.

small island like Dominica was so fortunate to have produced such a brilliant economist like Dr. Fontaine at such a time like this, but instead of being embraced by our government, they are looking for all evil opportunities to arrest him like a criminal. Rejected at home but an envy of the world. Reminds me so much of Christ who was rejected by his own but embraced by worthless sinners like myself. Congrats to you Dr. Fontaine

We should all be happy that Dr Fontaine found a job. Nobody questioned his qualifications; qualifications are indicators of scholastic endeavors and we are certain he excelled as an academic. A job in South Sudan is better than no job at all, but with the current shortage of professionals in the US, one wonders, why South Sudan?

    • Look It
      April 26, 2017

and if it was in the US you would ask why US

    • Shut up Warrington!

Stop being hypocritical, you all questioned the mans’s qualification from day one for years; you all tried to turn him into a joke, you all accuse him of stealing DAAS money, you all accuse him of some crooked land deal.

You all robbed him the privilege of his parliamentary seat by stealing it from him: Fountain won that seat!

The good always triumph over evil, and I am happy that Dominicans can see how wrong we can be, and how evil Skerrit and others can be when they set out to destroy our very own people simply because we disagree with them politically. The tangled web of lies they try to weave around Fountain is shattered, you all are exposed of your evil!

Some Dominicans could be gullible. Have you ever seen his education papers? Some people cheat in the classroom. Some people can purchase a doctorate, any certificate and diploma for a certain amount of money. This is prevalent in the US.

  49. April 26, 2017

Anyone that is seriously concerned about Fontaine should offer him a job to stay out of S. Sudan. Dr. Fontaine has to be really desperate to take a job in that country , he should be handsomely rewarded though. Of course he was offered the job because they couldn’t get anyone else. How petty…how small…

    • Amos your jealousy of Fontaine is weighing you down to the ground. I doubt Thomson is an idiot like you, which puts him in a situation where he cannot recognize danger and would jeopardize his life!

There is danger everywhere, even in small Dominica where people are found dead, and no one is held accountable for their murder: which is more dangerous, going around the world selling diplomatic passports to criminals, that if they are not satisfied may kill the vender!

At least Thomson’s will be doing honest work for honest money! Would you prefer him to lower his standards and become a diplomatic passport salesman, and thief the proceeds to become a millionaire?

If Thomson was desperate for a job, he would be hunting for a job, but with his qualification, he is sorted out, and offered a job. In all of your miserable life of living; has anyone, government or a private entity ever offer you a job?

Congratulation to the Dr, but a tragic loss for Dominica. Shame on those who cannot see the value that he brings to the table. Let’s hope the country progresses somewhat by the time he returns.

  59. When someone is approached, and given a job; whiteout applying for, or seeking employment, that speaks volumes!

That is an indication that the man possesses something special academically, which even nations internationally wants; and requires his knowledge, and services.

Unfortunately; in Dominica our country such people as Fountain are ridicule; lied upon by Skerrit and his circus, Hence the illiterate of the country believes their lies, which causes them to reject the services of the Fountains of Dominica, who has the knowledge to take Dominica on a different path leading to prosperity.

Will our people take notice of this development: he was called by a reputable government to go to actually set up a new nation!

    That is powerful!

Good enough to cause the British Government to select him, but in Dominica Skerrit and his labor party assassinates his character branding him a thief!

Neither Skerrit nor anyone in his government will ever…

    • I must end it by saying; neither Skerrit nor anyone in his government will ever be like Thomson Fountain! They are not in his class, educationally, or morally! After politics, there is no place Skerrit, and the clowns in his circus can go.

Even the Darroux who said he has a medical degree, I do not know who in Dominica will go to that man for treatment; if he was not a quack he would be practicing medicine rather than play politics talking fart all the time!

Way to go Thomson! This is where the academically educated Ph. D’s are separated from the Punjab university student who paid for a worthless piece of paper so he could be called doctor. We remember they dress him up like a clown with sword on his hip, and crown the idiot Sir Knight eh!
