Dennison John who represented the Salisbury constituency in parliament from 1980 to 1985 has passed away.

John, also known as DJ, contested and won the Salisbury seat on a Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) ticket in the 1980 general election which saw the DFP being swept to power when it won 17 of the 21 seats at stake.

Back then John was the youngest parliamentarian to be elected to to the House of Assembly.

DNO understands that John died suddenly at his home in the United States on Thursday.

General Secretary of the DFP, Johnson Boston, said John was a good man who served his constituency well.

“He made a good contribution to Parliament and the governance of the country,” he noted. “He was a good man who loved his country and his people.”

He stated that John had a sound grasp of the issues affecting his constituents and made representation on their behalf, especially in the area of agriculture.

“He got a lot of assistance from the government in the areas of roads, feeder roads and so on,” Boston said.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased former MP.

It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Former MP Denison John of Salisbury, popularly known as “DJ”, on February 26, 2015. Beloved by all who knew him both in his native Dominica as well as in his adopted country, America, he leaves to mourn his beloved wife, the former Janet Toussaint as well as daughters Anne Marie, Eileen, Charlene, Tammie, Clances and his son Ian. He also leaves brothers Julius, Fred, Glen, Linford, Lenroy, Bevin and Douglas and sisters Veralyn (Sisis), Gloreen and Pamela. Grandchildren include Jessie, Chrissie, Oneil, Annisha, Nia, Karlene, Kayla, Ayanna, and a son born to Clances, as well as a whole “army” of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in his beloved Dominica and indeed all over the world from Alaska to Taiwan. For 65 years my brother enriched our lives with his wit and his unmatched sense of humor. He taught us to focus on what is truly important in life. Saying he will be missed would be the understatement of the year.

Dennison John came to office during a time of tumultuous events on island. By his open and engaging manner he was able to speak to everyone – including those who disagreed with him or his party. A sincere Dominican who loved his people Mr. John has left us much too soon. We extend condolences to his family and friends. May we emulate his commitment to country and friendly manner. May his soul and that of the faithfully departed rest in peace.

Well, as the saying goes “U never 2 old 2 learn.” Hello? where did u get your information?

“There was large rumors of vote fraud etc ballots which disappeared etc.”

This person must be dreaming, let me remind u that there was no wave of support 4 DLP in Salisbury.DLP has been winning this seat from its inception,so the wave was from DLP to the DFP.I think DJ won by 30 or 35 votes. In 1985 OJ went down again 2 James Royer.
Back 2 ballots disappeared, after almost 35 yrs Hello?is inventing rumors.Let me give u this advice @ no cost 2 U, instead of using Hello? as your pen name Y not “Rumorer.”
On a serious note,Dennison was at my house (New Jersey) in July 2007 and I encouraged him to accept the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour and be sure of heaven after death…………………..Let me speak directly 2 the readers of my comments. Please 4 your own good turn 2 Christ 4 your own soul salvation, I did it and I know it works,U WILL…

I remember his flamboyant fashion. He cut a very dashing figure in the House of Assembly with his long jerry curls and gold-buckle shoes a la Michael Jackson. But he was also very friendly. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
