KINGSTON, Jamaica – Minister of Justice Senator Mark Golding has expressed sadness at the passing of Emil George, QC.

George, originally from Dominica where he was an Island Scholar, came to Jamaica early in his career, after graduating with first class honours from Oxford University and being called to the English Bar, the ministry stated in a release.

He quickly rose in the legal profession, acting as Legal Counsel to the Jamaica Industrial Development Corporation (JIDC) during one of its most active periods, and went on to become a leader of the Bar in the areas of industrial relations and commercial litigation.

There are many of us who left and never return, we lost all interest in the place of our birth, and when we die our name does not ring a bell. As such our nation does not know who we were, nor our relatives, hence no one seems interesting in sending out condolences to your surviving filmily if any exists in Dominica.

Because I am a stray dog from my country, and my village Wesley who may suffer the same fate, I am sending out my sincere condolences to your surviving relatives whomsoever they are, fortunately I’ve heard of you long before your demise. It was in 1962 or there about I came into knowledge of you.

I wish that I do not suffer such fate of loneliness when I die; in any event I have a grandson who jokingly insists he will be the only person attending my funeral!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahah!

I Francisco must be a very bad, bad man oui!

I am pleased to read of this excellent obituary about our Dominica’s own, even though most of his life was spent in the UK and Jamaica. RIP.
Dominicans should ever be proud and boast of it that he was a son of the soil and that D/ca can generate some intellectuals. It also includes those who possess certain talents and have exhibited it.
Young people – youths – let this be an example for you that whatever you make up your mind to be, you can be. It takes patience, perseverance and a studious nature to accomplish this.
Some of us wish we had accomplished more. However, while life, health and strength last, it is never too late.
Never bring down anyone and your country for when you do, you also bring down yourself. Keep in mind you have family and they are also affected.

Is the deceased related to the legendary jurist Telford Georges and Alfreda Georges of St.Agnes Bookstore fame?

His last name is “George”; not Georges.
Do you remember Stanley Georges? He was A;freda’s nephew. He passed on some years ago in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Emil George was the son of Elias George, lebanese merchant in Dominica, His store, as I remember was on Old street. His sister is Ramon George Dubois . His nephew is Maurice Dubois who was a news caster on one of the American Television stations, Emil Georges house was in upper goodwill, where present Ambassador of Venezuela resides. The house was bought from him by the Astaphans,. The Williams family lived there for some time…most people would not remember him as he left Dominica very early.

Thanks for the information, all I ever knew about him is in regards to his activities in Jamaica which I read about more than fifty years ago in the Barbados Advocate.

When I was kid when I heard of Elias George Store, in this case he may not have any surviving relatives in Dominica.
