Miss Dominica, Miss Carival and Miss Caribbean 2013, Leslassa Armour-Shillingford arrived in Dominica on Wednesday night from her participation at the Miss World 2013 pageant which was held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre in Indonesia last Saturday 28th September, 2013.

A delegation from the Discover Dominica and Dominica Festivals Committee headed by CEO Colin Piper, Events Director Natalie Clarke, Queen Show Committee Chairperson, Romaulda Hyacinth and other directors of DDA and DFC welcomed the Miss World contestant on her arrival at Melville Hall Airport before she was formally greeted at a specially arranged press ceremony at the VIP Room at Melville Hall Airport.

Armour-Shillingford, who competed with 126 other women from across the world at last Saturday’s 63rd annual Miss World pageant, returns home after her participation in the prestigious international pageant.  The 19-year-old Dominican beauty placed in the top 10 in the talent round and was featured during the show’s live telecast on Saturday. She is the first Dominican since 1978 to participate in the Miss World show.

Armour Shillingford participation in the Miss World pageant was made possible through the generous support of the DDA, the AID Bank, LIME Dominica, Anchorage Hotel and other corporate entities, family and friends in Dominica and abroad.

She will now concentrate on her reign as Miss Dominica, paying special attention to her special cause of holistic education and working on the development of her DREAM Foundation, an organization that will raise awareness and funds to support early childhood education projects in Dominica.

Leslassa, welcome home from your exciting trip. No doubt your family are happy to see you back safe and sound. You are now home, sweet home. I visualize that it was exhausting with not much rest and sleep.
Hope you recuperate with sufficient rest and sleep and later ready to tackle all your engagements.
We are proud and happy of your input into the prestigious Miss World Pageant. You have done an excellent job in representing Dominica on stage, in Bali, Indonesia and other parts of the world of onlookers who viewed the pageant.
I bet many were saying and some who never heard of Dominica, also assuming that is the D. Republic, “I did not know Dominica had such a beautiful young lady – girls” among others. Little do they know, eh?
Your presence, being from Dominica, was advertisement for Dominica. I would not be surprised if at least next year Dominica receives more visitors on account of your participation in Miss World Pageant.
You have done your utmost. Your effort is greatly appreciated by all Dominicans.
It is not yet over for you since you have other obligations to fulfill.
My best wishes to you in all future undertakings. Keep as youthful, as happy and as healthy as you possibly could.
    God bless you!

wellcome sister, you where great and very brave,my only disapointment is,i do not know by what criteria they judged the top twenty, seeing you where among the top ten, in the talent category,in my small minded way, this should have accounted for something,my feeling is, you where disciminated against, because of this people and their cultural and langauge background.

Allow me to take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to have itch just to get home or just to get on a computer or somewhere I can get some form of access in order to view or just to get an update. I’d wake up just to check my phone to see what’s new. I am not obsessed in anyway, but just elated and was filled with joy and excitement because of the fact that I know Dominica is being publicized in the most gracious way by an exemplary and dignified young lady!

You have done a marvelous job! You went there and you had fun and that put a smile on all of our faces and in our hearts. You were selected for a reason and I applaud you for your hard work. I look forward to seeing and hearing a whole lot more from Leslassa Amour-Shillingford. There is a special place for you and you have a very, very bright future ahead. Please continue on the road of positivity, you have a supportive circle of friends and family and other supporters like myself who do not know you personally and you do not know either lol..however I support you 100%. You have taken up a role to create an avenue for positive improvement in Dominica and as a young person I am elated and Joyful on your role. Great Job! Well Done! and God Bless You Leslassa!!
