Member of Parliament for the Mahaut Constituency Rayburn Blackmoore has expressed sympathy over the passing of former Finance Minister Victor Riviere.
Riviere served in the administration of former Prime Minister Patrick John and was MP for Mahaut. He passed away in St. Lucia last Friday.
In a statement, Blackmoore highlighted the jovial spirit that Riviere possessed and of how he rooted for investment in Dominica.
He said that Riviere was very “instrumental in the setting up of the National Development Bank” and that he served during a “critical period of Dominica’s economic and political life.”
“Certainly he made his mark in our political landscape and it is a very challenging job to serve as minister and Member of Parliament for a constituency as diverse and large as the Mahaut constituency,” he said.
Riviere was born in Mahaut on November, 20, 1937.
He was elected MP for Mahaut in 1975.
In the political hiatus which followed the 29 May 1979 political upheaval, he stood by Patrick John and did not resign his position.
He remained with John as a member of the opposition until parliament was dissolved in June 1980 to prepare for elections.
He did not regain his seat.
What independence
The current has not and will not be able to rise to the reputation of comrade Vic. Look what you and current inept leader did to the Labour Party…….No longer each for all…and all for each….but it is, Some shall eat and they are in there in the heart of the party.
We know all that about him already! Where were you, man??? Just copying and pasting? Joke joke….
You so late, looks like you just wanted your own page. Sacres toneh
Really DNO, do you think that is newsworthy?
Zandoli stay on your own tree! It is guys like you who wash away the past and think you can learn on your own and all that the world has now was built yesterday. Like the say goes, \”if you don\’t know your pass you won\’t know your future.\”
It is men like Vic that build Dominica into what it is today. We should honor him for such roles.
