Marigot – Chelsey Linton who was awarded a sports scholarship in 2014 by the Marigot Development Committee (MDC), has placed 2nd in the Women Heptathlon at the NJCAA Division I Championship, in Texas USA.

She also placed 6th in the women long jump.

Linton, as a senior at Essex Community College in Newark, New Jersey, improved her 3rd place finish in last year’s 2015 Women’s Heptathlon at the NJCCA Division I Nationals.

She has since graduated from Essex Community College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. She is expected to meet all NCAA requirements by August 31st, 2016, in order to accept a full athletic scholarship to attend a 4–year NCAA Division I university in the US. There she will continue to pursue her education with a bachelor’s degree and her career as an Olympic athlete.

Linton explained, “that it takes determination, hard work and sacrifice to pursue her dreams”.

She also recognized all the support she has had along the way.

“The number is too large to count but it has been an army of family, coaches and persons who have provided training, guidance, funding, gear and equipment, morale boosts and encouragement,” she noted.

Michael Pascal, The Project Coordinator, said, “the MDC is elated with Chelsey’s performance to date and hopes her success will motivate other athletes on island’’.

He is confident that Linton will continue to excel at the Division I NCAA level and that she realizes her dream of qualifying for and representing Dominica at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The MDC’s sports scholarship program is one component of its “Study Abroad Program” and to date two former North East Comprehensive students and members of WesMar Rangers Track and Field Athletics Club have benefited from this component.

The other student is Zellie Charles of Marigot.

The MDC is hopeful that Linton’s success will energize fellow athletes, parents and coaches to take advantage of the many education opportunities that can be accessed through sporting and athletic talent.

Udohreadyet, in truth is a pessimistic negative name. You seems to be always on the evil side of life, i’ve been observing for a while! Deep inside of yourself, you know exactly why you are the way you are and Yahweh God knows who you are! I’m not surprised at anyone who is on the side of the rogue prime mistake, they just have to demonstrate their wicked and evil deeds!
