His song, Murderer, was a major hit during the carnival season and he was given the privilege of closing calypso tents and calypso competitions; in essence bringing life to a weary crowd.
Kerwin “Mighty Omee” Casimir, 35, of Bioche, looks, acts and performs like any calypsonian but he is not.
He has been visually impaired, short sighted, from birth.
But this has not stopped him from expressing his passion for music and he has been recording from the age of 19.
Actually, calypso was not his first choice in music.
“Plenty people used to tell me, why I don’t try calypso but I told them that I was more interested in my reggae and my dancehall, because that is what I was raised around,” he told DNO.
But that all changed when one day at the studio, which is one of his favorite places. According to Omee, the producer played a beat to which he made up a chorus, just for the fun of it, as he said.
“When I started singing everybody started laughing but the producer took it serious ….he told me it sounding like a calypso road march,” he stated.
He recalled recording the chorus and he and his friend, Larry, wrote the verses.
And the seeds for the hit song, Murderer, was sown.
Omee got a glimpse of how big the song was going to be when he performed it at Unity Splash in Bioche late last year.
“When I perform the song there is like the way the people respond … it’s like something was going to come out of that song,” he said. “It’s like big, small, everybody jumping up, so I said I will take it from there.”
And it did go places.
During the just concluded carnival season it could be heard blasting from sound systems and it did win the Road March title, sharing it with Wuk Suk’s “Tomato Burst.”
He said he is forever indebted to the various fans, friends and family who have supported him in his musical career.
He promises more calypsos in the future.
“There is more to come still, once God spares my life,” he noted. “Trust me I feel overwhelmed.”
Omee noted that winning the Road March title this year is equivalent to a new door opening for him. “It’s like you have a foundation.. you build a foundation and you have to finish it. It’s just me now, to do what I have to do, and things will happen,” he said.
Apart from writing songs Mighty Omee is also a fisherman and a vegetable farmer. He said he has worked in the construction industry but could not continue because of his sight limitations and has even represented Dominica on a visually impaired cricket team.
He has written and recorded a few songs but he said they are not quite ready to be released as yet.
Omee has been a member of the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD) since 2006.

I was never really a great fan of calypso, soca is more my thing but I listened to all the songs this year even I am thousands of miles away.
When I heard that song I thought this has got to be the road march, I Love it, Love it, Love it
I heard that he is short sighted. Surely that can be rectified with an eye test and glasses?
I am willing to help and make sure that happens. If anyone reads this and agrees with me I would welcome suggestions on how we can help the road march king with his eye sight
