N A N Ducreay went into political oblivion in January 1970 when the E O Leblanc Labour Party smashed the “Dominica Labour Party” led by himself, Gros Giraud, Boozy Nichols, Oliver &Mable Moir James,Wills Stratmore Stevens and other “old guards” . They had conspired to oust Leblanc and went to court to fight over “name and symbols”.They said that Leblanc and Ronald Armour were communist because the old guard influence in the Party had diminished considerably. He threw his full support behind UWP and their “plans and programmes” in 1995 Elections He returned to Labour and was an articulate supporter of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and received appropriate benefits.
It was he who ,having flushed out the DUPP Government by a vote of no confidence ,called back E O Leblanc from the Federal Parliament to lead the Dominica Labour Party into the 1961 Elections. He played his part. May he find eternal peace.

It is fitting that the government of Dominica is giving him an Official Funeral. A man of his caliber deserves it.
The day of mourning is also in recognition of his political and patriotic work for the good of Dominica.
Let us pay honor to a great man, a son of the soil who proved his patriotism for his beloved country Dominica, who unfailingly worked for and on behalf of all Dominicans.
N.A.N. Ducreay, God bless your soul. Rest in God’s glory and peace.
While D/cans mourn his loss especially on Wednesday, from afar, I will remember you, especially his family and his soul in prayers.
God bless everyone! God bless Dominica! NAN will never forget his beloved country and nationals. He will be praying for everyone that Dominica prevail as a godly, happy, peaceful, safe and progressive nation. Being the man he was, he can do much more for Dominica in his spiritual world.

Does that imply that funerals not organized by the government are not official? I think a better term would be State funeral.

It is called an official funeral because it is quote on quote a state function. In that case the highest offices of the state are present to include members of parliament, diplomatic core and other officials< The day of mourning is symbolic of the occasion and should not be interpreted as to the Government telling you when to mourn as one person commented. There is also Military or State funeral which is of a higher category with different functionaries where the State wholly takes charge of the funeral, or suppose to with fairly minimal imput or family involvement. In an official funeral the body of the deceased is not " Laid in State", that is no draping of the Flag or sentries. Also firing party, military bands and sounding of last post and reveille are excluded at the burial. Official funerals are accorded by decisions taken by Cabinet/ Government. State or military funerals are if i may say mandatory for serving Heads of State and Government,Ministers, members of the police

RIP Mr. Ducreay. But why a day of mourning? If a man has lived past his three scores plus ten and his soul goes to a better place? Isn’t that what the churches teach us? We should celebrate the man’s life instead. I don’t want government to tell me when I should mourn or not, that is not their business.

It appears you lack godly enlightenment and graces. Do not be negative. Know that everyone does not think as you do. No one is dictating to you when to mourn or not. His funeral will take place on Wednesday and everyone is informed about it, if they so wish to attend.
Earth, as in Dominica, has a right to celebrate his life and to memorialize him for his good, patriotic and faithful works.
You think differently? Pray to God for discernment and enlightenment.

    • You see Mr. Prophet, the Bible teaches: ” To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” That however, is as long as the dead person knew, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord, God whom God Jehovah rise from the dead.

No one should morn the death of anyone; nevertheless, rejoice, and be happy the person has exists this life. However, the Bible teaches, when a child is born that is the time we should Morn!

And here is the reason: When a child is born into this world, we do not know what the child will become. That child could become anything professionally. Nevertheless, that same child could cause lots’ of damage to humans, as in the case of Hitler, Roosevelt Skerrit, people like the late Saddam Hosane, and the dictator in Syria, and like the people who have killed as many people in Dominica.

When one dies, they cannot hurt anyone anymore, their days of wreaking havoc are over. If they are a child of God there is a place of rest until it is time to return and…
