Hayden P. “Lord Tokyo” Desiree, age 80 years old, passed away on April 12, 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.
He was born on June 20, 1934, in Loubiere, Dominica to Ferdinand Desire and Alfreda Desiree. There he worked as a taxi driver but his passion and love for music and entertaining allowed him to travel the world and became well known as ‘Lord Tokyo.’
During that time he married his love, Clemencia Desabaye, on May 26, 1962. In later years, he moved to New York with his family and worked as a security guard. He still continued his musical career which was his passion and preferred profession.
Tokyo is survived by daughters Roselyn, Hedda, Annmarie, Marilyn, Jasmine and Daverne Desiree; sons Burt, Nathaniel, Kimani, Eusief, and Zamore Desiree; 28 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Vera Benjamin; brother Ronald Desiree and many relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and two children.
His funeral will take place on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Frank Barone Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY and he will be cremated shortly thereafter.
I had the opportunity to dance with you to your music a few years ago..r.i.p.Tokyo.I’ll definitely be at your funeral to show my support
His greatest hit was “The little man who doing the pumping” Nothing was mention of his wife Clemencia, I mean, whether she is alive or gone to the great beyond. My condolences to the family members and may his soul RIP
I was informed that she is not well; had an operation. I do not know how she is doing at this point.
She is the sister of Edna and Walter Desabaye. You may have heard that Walter passed on in Ontario a few weeks ago. I attended his Funeral Mass last week Friday. His wishes were that his body be cremated and his ashes brought to D/ca. It is now in D/ca for another Funeral Mass and burial.
Ironical isn’t it that a few days after I heard of Walter’s passing and his sister’s name was mentioned, I heard of Tokyo, his brother in law’s passing. There are times life deals a hard blow. With the families faith in God, they will cope.
May the souls of Walter and Tokyo rest in God’s peace. Amen!
He did very well in life; an example for especially the youths to emulate in whatever career they wish.
He married the love of his life and had eleven children. He certainly obeyed his Heavenly Father, “Go and multiply.”
The Lord blest him with many children, grand children and great grand children, down to the third generation.
He lived beyond three score and ten. This was a blessing from God.
On that day, The Lord must have said to him: “Hayden, it is time to meet me; that we meet. You have done well. Come and take your rest.”
He must have been as happy as a lark while singing, “Yes, Lord Yes. To Your Will and to Your Way. . .”
Having been well known and loved, I can imagine his funeral in New York will be well attended.
For one who loved his country, I wonder if his ashes will be sent to Dominica to be buried?
Rest in God’s light and heavenly peace, Hayden Desiree, “Lord Tokyo”. You were faithful in all what you did. The Lord prepared you for Heaven.
May his soul rest in peace…I once met a young man in the market place in French Guyana who said to have been one of Lord Tokyo’s sons…my deepest condolences…
Tokyo was a master comedian as well. will never forget the comment. ;Emile taxi driver , best foot in pushin : Yes he was funny and will be missed .
The caption under the picture says “was” famous in the 1970’s. I believe he was famous until his death, his fans can tell you. He won his titles in the 70’s, but he remained famous and a vibrant entertainer.
RIP Tokyo.
Now go up there & tell them about the ‘Tennis Shoe Scandal’
They already know, ever since he composed it and sang it. What he will be doing is praising The Father for sending His Blessed Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ to die, to save him for Heaven. He knows what eternity is like especially Heaven. He has seen The Father and The Son and knows what they are like. There is much celebration.
I am certain his wish is, that all people of goodwill who have a similar happy, joyful and helpful heart as he did, join him one day.
May your soul rest in peace
Hope in that the family finds comfort soon
My deepest condolences to the family of a legend! It was an honor to share the stage with you
